"This is a prophecy for you, where five people will meet huge adversaries, and only you can protect everyone." Daisuke Dojima is a second-year high school student who was abducted when he was young. He was involved in a special phenomenon—Shibuya Drift—with his childhood friends Gai, Lu, Marimari, and Keisaku. They were transferred to the center of Shibuya over 300 years into the future. What's waiting for them is endless wilderness and forest, Interspersed ruin, future citizens, and "Revisions" which are huge mechanical monsters. Trampled by the monsters without understanding the situation, a girl who has the same name as the person who saved Daisuke when he was abducted, Milo, provided a mobile suit "String Puppet" and told them to save Shibuya. With separated paths, adversaries, destined prophecies, the boys, and girls are on their journey to return to their original time.

First things first, this is a spoiler free review :)

This anime is kinda unique because it has no manga or source material at all. At first, the main lead can be annoying and cringy, because of him mentioning his destiny and mission to protect everyone. But as you watch more episodes you see the character development happens. He slowly becomes a likable MC that just grows on you. There are a good amounts of emotional scenes too, as well as action scenes I really liked. I was annoyed and thinking of dropping the anime at first, but decided to watch more and eventually I really ... enjoyed the anime. Really hoping they make a Season 2 for this anime :)

Mixed Feelings

The show starts off focusing on by far the most insufferable character ive seen in awhile. The protagonist has a hero complex and never shuts up about needing to save everyone every scene hes in it really grated on me for the first 3 episodes and he really only admits hes an insufferable twat 2/3 into the show. But he has character growth i guess. It ends up being a serviceable but not amazing story about five teenagers having the responsibility of saving humanity thrusted upon them. In the end it feels like your typical power of friendship stuff you see in alot of these ... Shonen shows. it tugged at my heartstrings a little at times but its nothing ill remember in a year im sure. Atleast its short.

Does it make sense to trust a stranger who just tried to kill you? Does it make sense to consider an enemy the stranger who just saved you from them? Logic says this makes no sense at all, yet for some reason the adults in Revisions are that incompetent, but this in turn is a non-spoiler example of how the show isn't thought out in the slightest. And sure, perhaps one can explain Mr. Muta's actions away as a very corrupt man looking out for his self-interest, but this only adds more questions on top of the ones already asked, such as how did such ... a person, corrupt as he is, becoming the leader of Shibuya in the first place, or why any of the adults would accept his decisions without ever questioning them.

And this is where the plot falls apart -- well, that, and how annoying Daisuke is for most of the series.

Why bring up this example, though? If the plot falls apart, that means there must be something about the series that works, and if Daisuke is annoying for most of the series, he must go through character growth at some point, right? The time travel element, the one introduced at the beginning involving Daisuke's kidnapping, does work, with certain things being explained, and Daisuke does, in fact, go through character growth.

One major problem with the show is that Daisuke's character growth doesn't come until the last couple of episodes, meaning the viewer will spend 5/6ths of their time waiting for that to happen, which may not be worth their time. The second major problem is the story—to advance the plot outside of those time-traveling elements where Milo goes back in time to save Daisuke, the adults must act with incompetence for the plot to even work. The non-spoiler I brought up, that is in fact a major diver behind many of the events that unfold in this particular series and in turn is a major weakness of the series because the narrative ended up forced in too many places.
