White Album

Can a relationship between a regular college student and an idol singer survive? That is the question that White Album tries to answer. Touya Fujii is a normal college student with normal worries—namely balancing his classes and his job he works to pay for school. He is also concerned about the amount of time he has to spend with Yuki Morikawa, or rather, the lack of it.

Being an up and coming idol singer, Yuki has concerns of her own. Even though she's not yet as popular as experienced veteran Rina Ogata, Yuki is turning heads and landing interviews on television. This should be a good thing, but not everyone is happy about the attention she receives from the media and from Rina. The idol industry is surprisingly cutthroat, and rival singers have their eyes on Yuki.

While it may seem exciting to watch your girlfriend on television, how does Touya really feel about all this? Between the challenges associated with Yuki's career and other people that Touya meets at his university, their relationship may not last…

I am far too lazy to write a proper review, so I will do it in bullet points about whats caught my attention.


Setting:

- The series is set in 1986. The sole purpose for this is because characters have busy schedules, and without cellphones, they keep missing eachother everytime they call and leave voice messages instead.

I cannot stress how this is a central point in the show. It feels very frustrating (in a good way), and makes me appreciate the fact we have smartphones today. A lot of the drama and heartbreak could be avoided by talking to your loved one at the right time. They ... cant do this here because there is simple no such technology there yet.

So characters finding themselves unable to speak with their loved ones at the right time create a lot of drama, misunderstantings etc.

- Characters

Touya is a typical harem protagonist. Literally every female character in the show want to bang him.

- He basically cucks his gf Yuki with 70% of the female cast.

- Other characters are very basic. Only one I liked was yayoi, because she was a mysterious and aloof onee san.

- Story

-Being a visual novel, it seems they tried to adapt every route, which made for a lot of stuff making no sense.

-I always preffered more focused experiencies, I enjoyed a lot of Touyas relationship with yayoi, because they have a sort of mysterious yet toxic vibe to it. But out of nowhere he starts going after all the other girls and it turns into a shitshow. None of them get any proper devolopment and focus.


- A amagami SS approach would have made this show better. Or sticking to one route.

-Several plot points or context regarding the cast's past are not properly explained. I assume they are explored in the vn.

- Music and overall production

10/10 for me. No comment.

- Closing thoughts

A great adult drama anime. While not relatable, it feels more "realistic" and down to earth than other available out there.

Unfortunately, due to it not commiting to a single route, the second season goes full retard and horny, and the more interesting relationships do not get enough time imo.

Mixed Feelings

White Album has a total of 2 seasons and should not be confused with White Album 2.

There are some really good characters in this anime, but there are also too many characters. The anime goes slowly, but also at a break neck speed at the same time. You get introduced to a lot of people and it's hard to keep track of everything going on. The 2 main idols are the best part of the series for sure. Everything past that is annoying filler. You will feel lost watching this anime.

The first season is really hard to get through. ... Boring. Slow pace. But at the same time, hardly explaining anything.

The second season does pick up the pace and it really feels exciting. There's a huge build. And the concert scene at the end is glorious. But the ending of the show is stupid. Really. Just don't bother watching this anime. It has high points for sure. But the confusing story and bad ending can't make up for time you have lost.

I will also touch upon White Album 2, which often gets confused with this one. Completely different stories. White Album 2 is great. 10/10. Would watch again for sure. The only similarity between the 2 anime is the music.

White Album 1 is more like a 6/10.

I seriously don't know which human trash wrote this garbage story. From the beginning to the end, the story makes no damn sense. And people will try to blame the MC, but let’s be real, the whole story is f*cked up by the bitches in the show.

So, we have your typical MC, who actually seems like a decent guy at the start. But then, like every other garbage anime, his brain just stops working completely. All he does is mumble “hmm,” “ya,” and get dragged around by the hoes and bitches surrounding him. ... This mf is just getting played like a fool. And the worst part? This isn't even an original mess. It’s the same crap we’ve seen in School Days, Rumbling Hearts, and every other garbage anime., where bitxhes has guts to blame mc after doing all the shit .

story - Our MC has a girlfriend, Yuki, who’s supposedly an idol with her busy-ass schedule. And guess what? She’s avoiding him most of the damn time like she couldn’t care less. This mf tries to be loyal, but what’s the point when his dumb bitch of a girlfriend is never around and acts like meeting him is some impossible task? And when she finally shows up, it’s like she’s doing him a favor or something.

And let’s not pretend she’s some angel here. Yuki’s just another, hoe pretending to care when she’s no better than the rest. ( if MC is trash then she is he same )

Now, let’s talk about the other FMCs, because it’s not just one—no, it’s a whole damn circus of desperate hoes. You’ve got Kazusa, who knows damn well this dude has a girlfriend but still wants to get all close and personal. And by close and personal, I mean she’s straight-up forcing herself on him and dragging him into her sh*t.

But wait, she’s not alone. The show keeps throwing in more manipulative bitches left and right, making sure the MC’s life is nothing but a hot mess. And this brain-dead MC? He just keeps getting dragged around by all these hoes because he’s too spineless to say no.

The funniest part? This mf actually has better chemistry with the other girls ..... but writer is blind and want this shit to turn into a bigger xhit .

This show just wants to make everyone look like absolute trash. And the ending? Oh boy, it’s the final slap in the face. Nothing gets resolved properly. Everything feels forced, rushed, and like a total waste of time.


ending makes no sense, the story makes no sense, and everything was just a complete waste of time. Good animation, decent music, but everything else? just a trash .
