There's likely existing stacks out there on this already, but I'll try looking for them later if this post doesn't get any good results. (Please feel free to link any if there are.) I'm currently not in the mood for shoujo series with a love interest who is stoic, serious, quiet, and/or acts cool until it's time to show how tough/possessive/hot-tempered he can be.

Instead, I'm looking for series where the male lead is friendly, laidback, happy-go-lucky, etc. It feels like it's so rare to come across a shoujo series where this is the case. Bonus points if he's also insecure and has moments of weakness/vulnerability (without it becoming the majority of his character). If you're read/watched "A Condition Called Love" then Keigo from that series is the perfect example of what I'm looking for, but a Kazehaya from "Kimi ni Todoke" type will also suffice.

EDIT: Also, I would prefer completed manga series over ongoing series (unless it's strongly recommended and a must read in this category).

Negima comes to mind. Even though I didn't really like the dude much.

@Lucifrost At some point, I'm pretty sure I watched the live-action movie for "Orange" and remembered her relationship with the quieter serious guy being more developed, but maybe that's wrong. Not particularly into "Shugo Chara!" but I'm fine with love triangles if the end game is with the type of male love interest that I'm looking for - although "Candy Candy" is a shoujo classic and I'll have to read it at some point regardless. Will add that and "20 Mensou ni Onegai!!" to my TBR list once I've gotten through everything that's currently on there.

@Retro8bit Can you specify which Negima you're referring to? When I searched him up, the result was a shounen series and I am not interested in that.

@nightjasmine Thank you for the recommendations! I think I'll be checking out most of these and don't mind that there's more josei than shoujo. I want to read more josei series anyways and the series where I'm uncertain if it's shoujo, josei, or neither still look interesting.

@bucciest yaaa I tried to think of more shojo but I just couldn't really think of anything. I'm sure there may be some out there, but nothing comes to mind right away. Which is both surprising and not, at the same time. There's just a bit more maturity in josei, yet it's still not all the way there in terms of variety of story and sensibility of romance.

Shugo Chara and Candy Candy have no romantic resolutions, allowing readers to imagine the heroines with whichever love interests they prefer.

"Kazehaya" type: Hiyokoi

Laid-back type: Usotoki Rhetoric - very minimal romance, but their dynamic are really nice

Friendly, cheerful type: Koishitagari no Blue - shows vulnerability, story has lots of drama
