This was actually cool, with the way they managed to set up the setting and the main female protagonist Kiruko is tough, not letting anyone push her around.

She and Maru are introduced this episode and I see some chemistry between the two already. Not going to lie, I like the way the setting too with the way it's set up. It gave me a feeling of sci-fi and dystopia. I also find Kiruko likable as a character so far. What a cliffhanger!

Well it may sound like the most basic thing to say but that settlement or whatever the term where those kids are living gives a strong resemblance to the one we had back in the promised neverland series. And dude even the outside world is plagued with something which eradicated most of the human population it seems.. oh and yeah monsters seem to be the cause behind that, for now atleast. But then there are people who died of starvation, so we don’t know.

Though be it however it is, guess we’ll see things with multiple points of views. “Outside world” with our protags Maru and Kiruko and that suspicious as hell settlement, “Inside world”, with those kids. Though for this episode for the most part we were outside, with both Maru and Kiruko doing what you should in a world where people disappeared all of a sudden, searching for basic necessities to ask however little people there are, the destination of heaven… I mean yeah what better place to search for in such calamity lol. Mind you dude does call that girl big sister, but they ain’t no siblings. Good thing they confirmed it here itself.

“DO YOU WANT TO GO OUTSIDE OF OUTSIDE?”.. No you should better not kid, it’s literally hell out there. Monsters are strolling around as if it’s a most normal thing after all. Fine first episode, but still plenty to know about their world.

The Spring anime season has finally begun with mangaka Masakazu Ichiguro's series...locked behind Disney+ jail.

"Do you want to go to the outside...OF THE OUTSIDE?" That's the question for this show.

A dystopian Japan where the siblings Kikuro and Maru going scavenger hunting to find the former's boyfriend and friend with the latter being her protector, with the world infested in monsters. With nowhere to go, they can only rely on their map and resources, but encountering a group of thugs that impede their progress, they're more than ready with Kiruko's beam gun and Maru's combat skills, in the search for "Heaven".

After getting intel from the same group of thugs, they're certainly being played at by the siblings...and the semblance of the young, schooling days with Tokio and Mimihime wondering what's outside the walls, that got Tokio intrigued by what could be outside. An out-of-place inn that could provide a source of info, though the inn owner doesn't quite have any leads on that, other than a "man-eating" monster wandering around the place at night. Being educated kids with the misunderstanding that both Kiruko and Maru are in a relationship, they're just there to reach their objective, and as luck would have it, that monster struck the inn as predicted.

A somewhat rushed beginning, though Production i.G's production holds up, and BiSH's OP is fine (song-wise).
Nevertheless, it has potential.

Hmm... this is the world I expect if a calamity happens. LOL. Two siblings who are trying to survive, the good thing is they're sticking together which is probably the best thing to do in such a situation. The action sequence with those scums was really cool. Kiruko is not scared of anyone and it seems like Maru is pretty badass. A concept that has been previously used before but has been molded once again differently and I don't mind that. The show has its goofy moments.

A very intriguing start to the show. Kids who want to know what's outside like and the curiosity that may lead them to do something that they're not supposed to. A world outside that has been turned into a hell. The art style is very soothing, and the art direction is remarkable like you'd expect from Yuuji Kaneko. The show looks very pretty aesthetically, thanks to Kentaro Waki. A very strong show from Prod. I.G. The music is absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing, all thanks to Kensuke Ushio.

Leaving us on a cliffhanger in the first episode. A cruel thing to do, I.G. That song in the credits was so good.

It's finally here, and what an incredible start.

The first thing that really stands out is just how striking the art direction is, trying to convey the state of the outside world compared to using stuff like exposition dumping. The bits of info we get about the outside world in the episode were given to us in the specific moments where they mattered and not before those situations (kind of similar to Id Invaded). But what this has an advantage is just how strong the visual direction and the shot composition is like the bird monster thing flying (also animated by Shingo Yamashita, the camera zoom in and out, the montage of their travelling. Another thing that really stood out was how natural the flow of conversation between the two MCs were.

With the number of animators seemingly involved with the production, it's no surprise of it being a sakugafest. The OP also has disjointed parts that are very cool and especially I love how it incorporates the guitar riff. Then there's also Ushio, whose output recently has started pointing towards the direction of being repetitive probably because of the sudden increase in the sheer number of shows in which he is participating, but the score here is completely fresh and Ushio at his roots.

Spring has come, and a new show has come. This is the show I expect the most in this season.
  • The scene zooming in to Mimihime at the beginning of the show is kind of lame.
  • The background art itself is like painting and good. But it's not match with the art style of characters, is it?
  • Unfortunately, the voice of the boy/Maru is not what I imagined.
  • The panning guitar sound in ED is cool.

Thus Spring anime begins. This one is pretty interesting, but it's still a set-up phrase. There are two vastly different settings happening right now, and I guess things will come together later. I hope the quality stays this way because it looks very good!

I came across this as a manga a long time ago and didn't give it a chance because of how it looked tbh. I watched the first episode today and damn it was good. I don't know how the stroy will unfold but this first episode was beautiful. Cant' wait for episode 2!

Pretty good first episode, this feels like a anime that will become quite popular.
I wonder if there is something ominous going on inside of "Heaven", seems abit too good to be true.
But then again the outside world seems alot worse.
Did that woman drug the kids? She seemed abit suspect.

This is a very good first episode. I'm already invested in the main duo and i must say that the art, the animation and the soundtrack are extremely clean. I hope it stay consistent till the end of the season though. I am not familiar with the manga but i'm glad i gave it a shot. The setting is also very intriguing and it reminds me a boit of promised neverland.

A very cinematic first episode with a great sense of sci-fi dystopia, which I found very intriguing. Kiruko and Maru's dynamic was pretty cool, and the show feels a bit more comedic than I would have expected at points, but that's a nice striking balance between the dark undertones that I enjoyed. The music was incredible, very fitting for a show like this. As for the "heaven" part of the world, it kind of felt like The Promised Neverland's setting from Season 1, but way more utopian-seeming, as a contrast to the setting outside the wall. It's truly a world with a heaven and a hell.

Great premiere, and a great start to the spring season, looking forward to more!

Solid first episode. I am intrigued as to what happened to the world but I kind of have an inclination as to what it is. Aliens, monsters, etc.

Man seeing that couple in bed holding hands...sadge.

They already put it out there that Maru has some feeling for Kiruko so we will see where that leads us.

looking forward to more.

Pretty Great first episode, they set the atmosphere right and it was more than a great adaptation for the manga.

That was a really good start, like the setting and characters. The main duo is in search for heaven in a post apocalyptic world. Animation and visuals are beautiful. There were even some fanservice which was nice. Maru seems to like Kiruko but to her he's just an object of protection? Really? I hope things develop nicely between them as I like the pair. The innkeeper's misunderstanding was hilarious. Though she seems to have given them sleep drugs. Is she gonna try feed them to that monster or something? Also I'm interested in the facility with those children. They seem to be oblivious of the world's situation but Mimihime somehow knows, I wonder how. Liked the start and really interested to see how things will go from here.

Looks like Darling in the Franx/Promised Neverland x The Last of Us/The Walking dead. I love the art style and the animation is pretty good and consistent so far. The setting outside's outside reminded me of The last of Us or The walking dead.(ノ゚0゚)ノ~

Pretty interesting background, it seems that Kiruko and/or Maru came from the hi-tech facility. They are pretty intelligent, outsmarting adults and are carrying hi-tech beam gun. Intelligent and capable young ones appear to be unnatural to see outside in the current state of their world, so I guess these kids from the facility are being raised there to somehow defeat monsters of the outside or something.( ̄▽ ̄)ノ

Looking forward to more mysteries as the plot unfolds. (* >ω<)

Wait, this was 24 minutes?! Passed by in a flash!
And so the Sprint 2023 seasons starts. This was a very intriguing premiere. At first I thought the lady at the inn was going to betray them but it seems like she will be protecting them against the monster, which looked very cool and creepy. Why did she put them to sleep though? Either way I'm expecting her to die next episode. The song at the end was awesome too. Really hope this gets popular.

Well, that was an incredible first episode. A sci-fi dystopia. A Heaven with children playing and studying and a Hell with monsters and a collapsed civilization.

Kiruko and Maru are on a journey to find this place called Heaven with Kiruko acting as Maru's bodyguard. Both are really likeable. I like the monster's design as well.

Maru probably thought they were friends now considering they seem to have travelled so far together. So his reaction to Kiruko calling him "an object of my protection" is understandable.

Also, was there something in the food or was Kiruko really tired? Maru fell asleep pretty quickly as well.

Absolutely steller from start to finish. The animation and character acting is impeccable and theres so much energy with each frame. The atmosphere, the direction, the setting, and the characters are so unbelieavably good and gives off so much intriuge. I have really high hopes for this but I won't have my expectations too high incase this flops.

I liked this a lot, except for the little boy beating all the adult attackers, as well as the girl acting so confident when she was close to getting raped. I hope there's a good explanation for the boy's fighting skills later on.

Other than that, great first episode, great animation. Might be anime of the season.

Great first episode, established the world very well, and managed to introduce two different casts of characters despite having to switch between them.
The animation was amazing, having quite a number of dynamic shots as well as very fluid action/character animation.
The innkeeper seemed a bit suspicious ever since she was introduced - and those two wouldn't normally have fallen asleep quite that quickly...

Overall, definitely looking forwards to see where this goes, and it seems to be very interesting.
