| Hey everyone! Doesn't everyone wish once in a while that they could live in a fairytale? When I was little, I was sure I was the princess of some foreign country and my prince would come and take me back to my royal loving family, HAHA. So this Icontest's theme is....: Theme: Fairytale - you may use words/characters/scenes of your favourite anime or manga that relate to fairytales - remember: fairytales don't just mean Mother Goose or Disney! - be creative! Rules: - You can enter up to 2 icons - Icon size: 100x100 or 100x125 (MAL size) - Cannot be from fan art, unless it is your own (or you have permission) - Must be your own work Format for Submitting Icons: 1. (insert icon here) 2. name the character/series 3. give link to the original picture so we know that you did not submit another person's work Reward: If your icon is selected as first place your icon will be used as the main club picture/icon for two weeks until the next Icontest has another winner :) If there are enough entries (and we have enough time), 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will get banners! :) Note: places will be based on individuals, rather than icons ------------------------DEADLINE-------------------------- Tuesday, July 15th If you have any questions or comments you can message icecreeaamm or me! It's very original and has a scrapbook feel to it! AngelLily - I love both of yours! Sure PS changes the width after you change the height 'cos it has to keep the aspect ratio. Here's a tip, how you should make your icons: 1. Get the pic you want for the icon, if it's possible, without a background, just the characters. 2. Then change the image's width to 100 pixel. Don't worry, if the height is under 100 pixel. If the height is more than 100 px, change that to 100. (if you want a MAL size icon, then you should look if the height is under 125 px) 3. Open a new document in PS which is either 100x100 or 100x125. 4. Copy the layer with the characters from the first document to the second. Move it around a bit, so the position looks nice, then make a background, add text, thinks like that :) |

It's impossible to resize it without cropping off a part of the image, unless you turn off the 'constrain proportions' option, which will in turn make your image look a bit distorted. With that option on, it will naturally give you the best size when you key in your preferred size on either Height or Width. eg : you input 100 for width, it'll give you 105 for height and vice versa. The best way is to crop your image's width and height to the same first before you start working on the icon. eg : crop to 300x300 then resize to 100x100. Hope that helped. D: |

Such as a cover of a doujin.. Allowed is from a dvd/soundtrack/game covers, anime footage, manga or art you made from scratch personally? "Must be your own work". This is somewhat ambiguous, it almost sounds like only art you personally draw by hand or done digitally is allowed(but based on the current entries that couldn't be true). Or does this just mean don't take someones elses' icon and submit it? and doesn't have to do with the images used? So what exactly do these 2 rules mean. Thanks. 1.  2. Puck / Berserk 3. |

| 'Cannot be fan art' means the image cannot be from anyone unless the original artist or the person that draws for the particular anime/manga ( don't really know how to explain, sorry.) Basically it's a page or screencap from the manga or anime. And the latter means you don't take someone elses' icon and submit it, since you did not make the icon, hence the 'must be your own work' thing. Not really sure, but I think that's what it means, need to wait for one of the admins to clear things up. And you are kind of the first one to talk about this, heh.( not that it's a bad thing, of course.) |

Cannot be from fan art unless it is your own, meaning, you cannot take someone's icon and use it as an entry or using an image that someone drew, therefore, it must me an anime from the anime/manga. And yes, unless its your own, meaning, you made it yourself. And sorry, no Doujin. 2. Must be your own work meaning, you made it yourself and so that's why we have the format/rule about posting the image you used to prove that you made it and not just taking someone's icon as an entry and taking credit for that. I thought I would explain the reasoning for the fan art rule, for everyone, in case they are curious as to why we have it... The fan art rule came about because of the following reasoning: if someone has taken the time to draw/paint/etc. something from scratch, it is essentially their property. The characters may belong to the anime company/mangka that created them, but the picture is theirs, and I'm guessing they put a lot of effort into it. The last thing I want, is someone to make an icon using fan art, and having someone get angry about it. Doujin, I believe, falls into this category. What I don't believe falls into this category is colored scans. The image still belongs to the mangka that drew it; someone just stuck it into paint and waved a paintbrush over it. And, of course, if you drew the fan art yourself, then it's obvious that you can use it if you so choose to. The "Must be your own work" is as others have said - no posting of other icon makers' work. This is why we require the original image to be posted with the icon. :) Thanks, Laen for your help. I hope with both my and icecreeaamm's explanations, it makes sense :) If you have complaints, feel free to express them, and we will consider them. Thanks, also, to SunyiNyufi for helping out with the icon sizing :) It's so awesome when you guys help us out ^^ |
