Good to see the 6 heads of Maniwa going on a meeting. Didn't expect Konayuki to have a super trength to lift the 6th sword, she even said that she is the weakest compared to the other in their Itezora Clan. Konayuki easily defeated Shichika at the duel, I didn't expect that. I feel bad for her, she just want to play with Togame and Shichika to avoid being lonely. Maniwa Kyouken's power is a great one too, it was a good choice of her to transfer herserlf to Konayuki. I'm glad that Konayuki was okay, Houou really did kill his teammate for the alliance. Brother vs Sister next episode, what an unexpecting event.
Not that it matters, and not that this show has thus far shown any concern for this sort of thing, but Im VERY confident there arent any polar bears in Japan...
Togames frozen hair looked pretty funny. I can't believe Shichika didn't noticed when his legs began to cool down so much that he wasn't even able to stand anymore.
That little girl Konayuki was such a cutie. But damn at the same time I was surprised about her strength. I mean sure the people there were known for being strong but such a little girl? Especially when she showed the sword to Togame and Shichika. When it fell down it reminded me a lot on the weights Rock Lee removed against his fight against Gaara. It's also the first time we saw Shichika lose.
Kyouken had an interesting ability. At first I was sure she killed Konayuki with the body transfer. Smart idea of Shichika attacking the tattoos. But wtf happened afterwards? Houou just casually beheaded Kawauso to excuse the little event with Kyouken.
There was a good amount of developement for Shichika in this episode. He didn't kill without thinking and he also thought about himself and Togame and what will happen after they found all the swords.
The only part I didn't like was the revealment at the end with Nanami.
Another entertaining episode! I still want to be a member of the Insect Squad but now that they are gone, perhaps just wearing a strange outfit would be enough. I do like how the ending artwork changes with the episodes. This one had the 3 little snowmen in it!
Ayo did they really just spoil the next episode of the series in the epilogue? It seems there was a reason for them doing it, but I wonder if it was a good choice.
Konayuki is okay, and that's all that matters. It's to her who Shichika suffers his first loss though, wow. I was sort of expecting him to win every battle, but nope, he's weak against amateurs. Jaded swordsman with moves faster than the speed of light? Easy. Strong kid with heavy sword? HARD MODE ACTIVATED
I like how Togame tells Shichika to kill her if her body gets taken over, and Shichika's just like "yeah sure". Boss
The episode preview though. Slight art style change?? And also I was kind of expecting him to have to fight his sister, but I thought that would happen near the end. Instead it happens just over halfway through, so soon! Well you can definitely say that so far they're succeeding in keeping things interesting that's for sure. This episode imo was easily better than the last one, which I thought was the weakest one so far.
I kid you not. I watched this episode first and then decided to watch an episode of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, and it happened to be an episode that seemed so much like this one! (The only difference is that instead of the MCs finding a very strong girl, they come across some hobo dude randomly doing some squats.....)
And they thought we wouldn't notice... but we did.
Anyways, regarding the forum reply, I'll try to make this one short.
Picking up from the last episode, Shichika and Togame ended up in a snowy environment where they got picked up by a snowstorm. Togame is overexaggerating herself of dying from the storm when she tells Shichika to make 'Cheerio' become an unforgettable catchphrase and how she is thankful to Shichika for, after 20 years of her life, making her see how a human should live life... and Shichika just responds like this...
Hold up... 'YET?'
...wait, TOGAME'S 20 YEARS OLD?????
Apparently, the one who felt the most beat out was Shichika who suddenly collapses. Eventually, a young girl arrives and decides to help the two by carrying them to her place. From what we saw, she's very strong!!
The anime decides to cut to the few living Maniwa discussing...
...er, another sexy-looking Maniwa went on to seek Shichika and Togame to kill them for eliminating half of the Maniwa gang, though the leader and another Maniwa decided to follow to stop her from doing anything.
Back in the strong girl's cave, whose name is Itezora, we see how she was part of a village that unfortunately was destroyed by an avalanche... even though the village is located on top of the snowy mountain, which gets Shichika and Togame to question the logic. Togame wants to know if the next sword is possible, and Itezora decides to find that sword underneath the demolished village.
We then get to a scene where Shichika and Togame are on a hammock about to sleep. The two decide to have some conversations. The first was that Togame wanted to know what other information Shichika knew, especially when she discovered he already knew the term 'Chest' because of his father. Shichika reveals that he already knows who Togames father is and how Shichika's father killed him, as well as saying how Shichika's the one who killed his own father. Togame believed he knew a bit too much that she decided to give him another request: to not reveal such information to anyone else. The second conversation they talk about is how they realize they are about to collect their sixth sword, meaning they're halfway done with their journey. This makes Shichika question Togame about what she plans to do after their journey is complete.
Shichika knows he will be by Togame's side from then on, but Togame doesn't know yet. Togame was also impressed with how much Shichika has become more aware of life as a person and how he's been asking such psychological questions. The conversation also made me think for myself, wondering what will happen once a goal is finally achieved. As an animation graduate who wants to create my own animation studio. I've made myself come up with several goals to get where I want to be. No matter how many goals I go through, there's something new that I look towards next that I want to achieve. However, the question is, what will happen in many years once that phase is over and retirement happens? It's a topic I'm not the most comfortable discussing, but these are topics one needs to think about from time to time. Heck, some achieve goals or finish a phase for themselves and then become unsure of what to do next, which can make one nervous.
It's funny how I mentioned Frieren earlier and how the episode I watched was similar to this one... however, that anime shows what happens when one's quest gets over and how a new one begins to slowly begin. It just means that in life, there are chapters and phases one goes through, but finishing one milestone doesn't mean you've accomplished your life; it just means that you completed one chapter of your life, and a new chapter of it will soon begin!
Wait a second...
*Check's this anime's recommendations*
*Frieren: Beyond Journey's End isn't listed*
Hmm... well, I might make a recommendation later, lol.
Ok, I've strayed off for a while... So, Itezora returns with the sword, which happens to be really heavy. She explains how anyone cannot carry the sword unless they prove themselves worthy. This results in Shichika's duel with Itezora, but the duel causes him to have his arm broken. Shichika and Togame then stay in the cave, and Shichika blames himself for breaking the promise of protecting himself. However, Togame doesn't want him to blame himself so much that she says it's her fault. Togame also realizes that Itezora lied about how to hold the sword so that Shichika and Togame could stay longer because she feels lonely without the village...
Eventually, the second sexy Maniwa finally arrives where Shichika and Togame are, and...
...w-woah... t-this is probably the second female Maniwa in this anime that I've fallen for...
Also, just realized in this image that Shichika really do be staring at that booty... yeah, he really is becoming more humane, lol.
...Itezora is seen with the Maniwa knocked down by her for a moment, and it is revealed that the Maniwa steals female bodies to obtain a possibly stronger body. So, she steals Itezora's by showing this extremely sus transformation sequence towards an 11-year-old..... ok.
(So, as someone watching this anime blind, I was always worried about the possibility of this anime having fanservice moments, especially by a story made by the creator of the Monogatari series... it hasn't been that bad in the previous episodes, though this one had several instances.....)
The Maniwa controls Itazora's body, and she can use her strength and have the memories hidden within the body. This reveals the actual truth of what happened to the village, showing a flashback of...
(Ho-ly heck... I wanted her to appear eventually, but this memory reminded me that she isn't really a nice person.....)
Shichika attempts to fight the Maniwa, which Shichika finds easier since he can read her movements easily now. Togame orders Shichika to kill the Maniwa because of how dangerous she has become... wait... NO, NOT ITAZORA!!!!!
Oh, wait... Shichika manages to destroy only the Maniwa's marks to get Itazora free from control... Good, good... actually, no... thank GOODNESS she didn't die... if something had happened to her, I would have been agitated. She's pretty cool!! ;_; This moment shows us that Shichika himself has become more aware of human life, especially one who isn't bad and is considered kind of heart but needs saving. I like that!
The captain of the Maniwa eventually arrives and sees that it's already too late, for the sexy Maniwa has already perished. The leader is concerned that Togame and Shichika still see the Maniwa group as a threat within their own sword hunts. The captain decides to kill off the member accompanying him to show how they should not be seen as a threat anymore and go on with their own matters without any clashes, or else there will be problems... Togame refuses the fight and just doesn't want to see them anymore. Before the captain leaves, he informs how someone considered a significant threat has taken one of the swords from another location. (N-Nanami???)
Just realized that there are only 4 Maniwa left... that means... o-OH NO!!! DUCK MANIWA WAIFU WILL SOON BE TAKEN DOWN!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the end, we see Shichika, Togame, and Itazora with the sword near the docks. Itazora tells the other two that she'll bring the sixth sword to Izumo so that it may be secure there. They also part ways as Shichika and Togame go on their own ship. The two go on their way to the following location. Upon the boat, it happens to be that Hitei's bodyguard is secretly spying on the two on the ship. Now I'm curious about who exactly he is as well. Hopefully, it will show us in the next episode. Wait, hold up... we're finally getting more Nanami in the next episode...
*The Narrator spoils the next episode, saying she'll die.*
. . .
...y-you know... I should be disappointed with the Narrator for spoiling the next episode... but, like, I kind of knew something like this was gonna happen in this episode because of a forum I found before watching this anime saying how this specific episode spoils a big moment in its next one..... actually, I was even thinking about not looking at the preview for the next episode so that I avoid such spoilers within the preview dialogue. However, I didn't think it was still gonna happen at the last second of this episode before the credits..............
...buuuuuuuuuuut then again, if you remember what was shown in Episode 4, Nanami is seen as someone who can't seem to die... therefore, THE NARRATOR IS TROLLING US AGAIN!!!!!
Welp, this reply ended up to me my longest one yet for the Katanagatari episode discussions... I had to rewatch moments of this episode to better understand some areas more, and I realized that watching an episode of this anime a second time makes me like it even more for some reason... I did go a bit deep in one moment in this reply, but that's like the second time the anime made me think deep thoughts. This just shows how much deeper the anime really is. As for where I'd rank this episode, I was thinking about the previous one and realized that I ranked the fifth episode a lot higher than it should. Still great, though I ranked it higher before because of the epic fight that happened in the end... Nonetheless, with this episode, it would go as 4 > 3 = 1 > 6 > 5 > 2.
Well, I can only say that Nanami will definitely appear in the next episode, and I'm nervous about seeing how things will go...
