Okay, this arc took an unexpected turn (with Makoto being a fox and all), but that was very sad. It was quite heartbreaking to see Makoto gradually lose her strength and humanity, I hoped she'd go back to her usual self at least once before leaving but unfortunately, that didn't happen. That's tragic...
But the last scene seems to imply she reunited with Piro, that's a good thing ! Though this also implies Piro actually died, not to mention Makoto is still separated from Yuuichi so there's still something tragic about it.
I hope the other arcs won't end in a similar way or else I'm really gonna cry at some point.
Also, this arc still raised two questions. The first one, since we know Makoto used to be a fox, then who is she taking the name Makoto Sawatari from ? Apparently Yuuichi knew someone named like that, I really wonder what is up with it, I hope it'll be explained.
And the second question is, since this arc pretty much ruined my theory about the amnesia, then why do Yuuichi and Ayu also suffer from it even if it's not on the same level as Makoto ? I really doubt they are foxes so I don't know what to expect now.
So that's it for the Makoto's arc. Clearly not something I'd very much gladly look at, but would be a lie if I said I didn't feel anything watching this episode. That last part with Makoto disappearing all of a sudden, got me recall that one scene of Angel beats.
Now to see whom arc we'll have next, and also I'm guessing these supernatural elements to escalate further from this point on.
That was pretty sad, really. I feel that Makoto kinda lost all of her interesting character traits once she got sick, though, so it felt like the character that I really liked had disappeared a long time ago. I mean, the slow downturn wasn't really bad or anything, just took a lot of impact before her death. They could've at least given her a moment to say goodbye if they really wanted to make it hurt, like giving her one last moment of mental strength.
so i think the reason why i wasn't fucking with this too much is for a few reasons, but primarily
this is way too similar to the main conflict of AIR. the whole, "she can't fall asleep or else she will die and be gone forever, and as she heads closer to this fate she will slowly lose her memories" tidbit is extremely reminiscent of the main conflict of makoto's route. also, not gonna lie, i didn't really fuck with makoto too heavy... this was a miss for me unfortunately.
Aw man, that house will feel a bit empty without Makoto trolling Yuuichi. It's so sad that even her love for Yuuichi wasn't enough to make that miracle permanent.
huh?? judging by the preview, is that the last episode of this arc?? thats it?? shes just like dead or some biz? she doesnt even get to be a fox? they dont do anything about it??? its just "yep, shes gone. thats all." what?!?!?! thats so dumb!!
Man, such a beautiful and emotional episode. Definitely one of my favourite emotional episodes to any Anime I've ever seen.
The way they showed Makoto's deterioration throughout, it just made you feel so sorry for her, but seeing Yuichi, Nayuki and his Aunt together with Makoto, the photo shoot and the wedding scene were really touching and really added to the emotions even more.
It's been seven years since I last watched Kanon and seeing this episode again, I actually had to hold back the tears, I'm not going to lie.
Definitely a 10/10 episode with an uplifting ending also.
