HOLY S*(T! NADEKO_CHAN! ep 14.

Plot: Tsukihi uncovers Nadeko's true intentions towards Koyomi and in an act of ending it, cuts off Nadeko's bangs, thus removing her way of hiding. This later causes Nadeko to snap off at her teacher and classmates. SHe later finds the body piece Kuchinawa was looking for as a talisman.

Character: WOw. Just Wow. Nadeko went all in. Her seiyuu and expressions are what made this whole thing awesome. Her meek demeanor/act was stripped away when something was changed about her appearance and, feeling the annoyance/burden of what she was asked to do but didn't want to, just released that aggression in a spectacular fashion.

Her "love" for Koyomi follows in line with her act. She was the meek quiet girl with an unattainable crush. No guy would be so callous as try to get in the way of that.

But I do think her crazy has finally arose when she spoke of ending it all. Yep just like all Monogatari girls, there are no sane ones.

Tsukihi gets a mention due to her surprising way of piercing through all Nadeko's disguises. Oh and she's crazy too.

Animation/sound: It was pitch perfect that they had Nadeko confess her "love" lead to Tsukihi telling of the girlfriend to the OP about certain wants and delusions. Just great.

5/5. The penultimate ep to Nadeko Medusa was a smash and now it goes further down to crazy town.

PS: Ninja Koyomi is a Ninja.

Great conversation of Nadeko and Karen in the beginning, I really like it! But... another haircut!!
(and her consequent inner monologue)

The moment when she started blaming her teacher was really great (and one couldn't but notice that her tone was the same as her inner self's snake's one). Yorokobe, boke! :D

And that phrase, to go look to Koyomi's house... Subete no owari ga soko ni aru!
The beginning and the end of everything, I believe this is something very relevent even for current Owari series. Or for the last part of the series (yet to be published), Koyomi Book.
The real question here is, WHO is writing those stories?

The ending with Koyomi standing in the doors while Nadeko saying her confession was just marvellous.
But.. did he have to reject her so fast? Or I guess he was rather annoyed she lied to him. Can't wait for the next episode.

Tsukihi was so hot and yummy, my waifu that is. I love her brocon side, sneak into onii-chan's bed and embrace him, yus! Messy hair is love, messy hair is life!

damn you Koyomi, that was supposed to be your face in Tsukihi's titties! *jealous-envious*

brocon imouto at its best, it's always good to see fire sisters brocon side <3

look who's talking, you are super cute Tsukihi-chwan!

HNNNNNG, my little kitty can't be this cute <3333

And Tsukihi was not only omega kawaii but also so great and cool in this episode, love her yandere psychoanalysis role. I would like to see what happened if she saw Koyomi and Nadeko sleeping together. Knife or awl? XD

Well Nadeko was a bit unexpected and surprising, I rewatched that moment right before her blow several times, and it was cool and shocking, but don't you think that she was a bit overpowered here? She wasn't aberration then after all. I don't like her new hairstyle though, but she's still kawaii as hell and is my fav character after fire sisters.
Koyomi's porn is awesome, especially Sisters magazine, so he's siscon after all, sasuga Koyomi-oniichan ;) and Nadeko's reaction, lol probably hint to Lucky Star and Kagami watching FMP gay porn XDDD

Such a well-crafted cliffhanger. There wasn't any tension whatsoever due to Sengoku casually entering the house and rifling through Araragi's stuff like it was nothing, probably due to her being tired of the snake. So to just suddenly ramp the tension up in the last seconds of the episode creates an awesome cliffhanger. I've found that the worst cliffhangers, objectively of course, are the ones that have tension for several minutes and then end unresolved. By only having tension in the last moment, it leaves your brain only considering what is about to happen after the episode finishes, rather than during the episode itself. Awesome stuff.

Sengoku's change at school after her bangs were cut.

Dam Araragi made our pure Sengoku search through that mag to find the bookmark.

So I think the serpent was lying about other ppl hearing his voice because he would be quiet when Araragi was around and others too.

Nadeko's personality change and how she searched for the vessel in Koyomi's porn mags was hilarious.

Holy shit. So that's what cute moe girls are like on the inside.

"I hate all of you, but goddammit, you're my classmates!" /r/me_irl

So Araragi finally busted her. Can't wait to see how this turns out next episode...he's probably going to explain to her that the snake's been tricking her the whole time or something, and they're more bond together then she thinks, which would explain the flash-forward scene at the beginning of this arc.

Wow. Nadeko must be my spirit animal.

And I don't even particularly like her. It's not that I dislike her either, it's just that... she's cute and that's that. Which is the whole point.
The fact that I feel for her what the author wanted me to feel should classify her as great character.

Well that was one helluva sudden outburst, gotta say I prefer the 'unfiltered' Nadeko to the cutesy Dandere one.

This arc is addressing one of my irks with romance & harem anime- that being the childhood friend love interest. Nadeko kind of fits that archetype of the girl who has loved MC for an infinite number of years but just won't confess because she's so damn shy like Onodera from Nisekoi or Sakura from FSN.

Ofc these girls almost always lose to the Tsundere bolder competition because of their own lack of confidence. The interesting thing about Nadeko is that while she might blame her "shyness", she's basically revealed her love- perhaps even her whole personality- is fake.

By telling herself she loves someone as unattainable as Koyomi, she's side-stepped all the problems that come with real feelings & relationships- jealousy, passion, anxiety, fear, obsession & even hatred.
It's kind of like Hanekawa in reverse lol
To Nadeko, 'loving' him is an excuse to take the path of lesser resistance.
Because of that, she's just another cute girl- to Araragi and to the viewer, well on the surface anyway.

Also, I know Nadeko gets a lot of hate but I don't really understand why...she's not my favorite character by far, but she's easily the most interesting and nuanced along with Hanekawa (another character who doesn't get enough love imo).

Tbh it just baffles me why everyone adores Gahara so much...she's not a bad character but a lot of the time it seems like all there is to her is her sharp tongue/wit, and most of the other girls have that too. But hey that's probably intentional too!

"But he has a girlfriend, you know" - Tsukihi to Nadeko

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Way to break her heart. I'm so fucking dead. Fucking love you, Tsukihi. Hahahaha. I honestly can't stand Nadeko. Jesus. Ugh. I wish her arc finish already. Waaaaaah!

I reckon Tsukihi can't stand her anymore, like she's so fucking annoyed, I mean I feel you, Tsukihi, spiritually. Lmfao. Can someone please get rid of Nadeko already? Ugh. She's the only character from Mono that I can't stand; she annoys every atom in me. Lmfao.

I think her seiyuu adds up a lot for my hatred for her. I can't stand KanaHana's voice anymore since she's fucking everywhere. Fucksake.

Her fucking "HUH". Jesus!

"That won't come true, Sengoku." YOOOOOOOOOOO! Way to break her heart for the 2nd time from Araragis. Hhahahahahaaohgfauohfuinhgf!

Seems like a lot of people actually don't care too much about Nadeko as a character, but I find myself sympathizing with her, seeing how far this is gonna go from the arc's opening scene. I feel like a lot of circumstances are lining up for her to end up that way. I guess we'll see how this goes.

Sengoku Nadeko snapping was a blast! It was really entertaining. On the other hand,Tsukihi seems like a really dangerous person, but cute. Cute but deadly, she would've been even cuter if that Nisio didn't cut her hair this short. Long hair Tsukuhi is cuter and moe.

I felt like there was a higher ratio of talking during this episode, but that's Monogatari for you. I kinda wish Tsukihi had assaulted Nadeko like she assaults Araragi. Drinking game: Take a shot for every "cute." Tsukihi sure likes her gossip. I half expect Nadeko to think that Hanekawa is Araragi's girlfriend. That's an interesting way to put it, Tsukihi. I never thought of the affection as Nadeko trying to protect herself, but now it isn't something I can unsee. Senjougahara would butcher you. Sorry Nadeko. She looks better without the bangs. Not gonna lie. I kinda dug the whole "I don't give a single shit" Nadeko. Don't care who or how it was caused, it was awesome. Always a fan of raw emotion being animated like that. Hanazawa delivered a great performance too. Nice porn stash, Araragi. Wonder what the ending was all about. Curious how that confrontation will lead to what we saw in the first episode of the arc.

Yo so Tsukihi's hair is just back to being short now? I think her hair might be one of the biggest mysteries in this anime lol.

This anime sure loves to have characters interrogate one another about their love and if it's "real."

Oh damn! Nadeko going off on her teacher and classmates was pretty unexpected but so enjoyable to watch. Keep the character development coming.
Ya just gotta love Kana Hanazawa's voice acting.

Yooo that ending though! I think I can see how this lead to her fighting Koyomi at the beginning of the arc.

Wow, this was a good ep. I liked how Tsukihi, just like Shinobu, told Sengoku about her pointless love, but in a more friendly way. It looks like she was madly "in love" with Koyomi-oniichan that she even didn't notice that others knew about it. It got to hurt here
. Also, I liked how she cut'em bangs
. It was spot on, and I loved how she tried to make the sign that this madness is over by cutting her bangs, but it looks like it didn't help. LOL. At the same scene, these moments cached my eyes
.

Even more surprising, I really didn't expect her to rage. Haha, it was so deserved that she told her teacher that he should shut the fuck up. He truly deserved it. What kind of moron would put all the responsibility on a student, especially on a child. It looks like her inner rage has reached the threshold. The voice acting was amazing too. So praise the voice actors, she did a splendid job. Very funny how she both kick the door open and desk away from her, something we haven't seen before
.

It looks like Araragi, finally, found out the truth, and as suspected, the serpent acts according to his nature and has lied all this time. Nevertheless, he has found his vessel and will probably manipulate/control her in the next ep. to his own advantage/resurrection.

Otorimonogatari has been the most savage breakdown of the kuudere-esque unrequited lover type I've seen in anime thus far.

In some ways, Sengoku's scenario feels similar to Hanekawa, where they put on a facade to protect their true feelings. They try to create an image for themselves to coast through life, but while Hanekawa pretends to be an upstanding citizen, Sengoku attempts to sneak under everyone's notice, lending to the abundant snake metaphors. Sengoku seemingly wants to remain in love with Araragi, never being more or less than that. She doesn't really know much about him, yet holds him at such a high pedestal, creating a false ideal of what he is in her mind.

I get Tsukihi's criticism, where if Sengoku was serious about confessing to Araragi or dueling Senjougahara, Tsukihi would be rooting for her. However, since Sengoku has no such intentions, Tsukihi wanted to end the nonsense by removing Sengoku's mask: her bangs. They metaphorically and literally hid her face, which, come to think of it, is a running theme from all the times she hides her face with hats and stuff. Her eyes are also almost always in shadows during the Renai Circulation and Mousou Express openings, and she's always following close by Araragi, but shown in alternate colors or walking in opposite directions.

I guess she's afraid of rejection, but she's apparently had these feelings since they were kids. Rather, I guess she doesn't want to put in the effort to actually be in love, which is how she casually rejects all the boys from her school. Again, she seems like Hanekawa for how distant and aloof she appears, but unlike Hanekawa, Sengoku's repression is potentially more destructive.

Hanekawa initially thought herself to be a heroine meeting her supernaturally-powered prince, but she didn't have the ability to express her emotions, much less confess her feelings to Araragi. She purposefully expelled her emotions to try and maintain her image, creating her own Oddities. With Sengoku, she never had the intent to confess to Araragi, and was content on always making him worry, but without engaging any further. And, in order to maintain that status quo, Sengoku was content with constantly tempting Araragi, but then act aloof and pretend nothing happened.

I can see the reason for Ougi's monologue on people playing aggressor/victim, Shinobu's comment on Sengoku being privileged with cuteness, and Tsukihi's bluntness over Sengoku retreating with apologies to break away from a bad conversation. Sengoku plays the victim to garner Araragi's attention, uses her cuteness to keep him around, then quickly ends their interaction before things get too real. This is a pretty brutal assessment of the shrinking violet archetype, holy crap.

Oh, and I'm surprised at that rant Sengoku gave. Rather than being a collection of random outbursts and curses, she made explicit points about her teacher forcing his problems onto her, as well as classmates wasting time being awkward and distrustful of each other. Her anger was justified, her points are sensible, and her mannerisms were amazingly delinquent-like, most likely leveraging on the gap between her maintained image and her now exposed vulgar demeanor. In an average show, Sengoku would have just yelled at everyone randomly, broke stuff, and left. Here, she yelled at everyone while giving reasonable arguments regarding their ridiculous behavior, then broke stuff and left. Okay Monogatari, I'm impressed.

Edit: Also, I swear this better not be pulling some biblical snake-tempting-Eve and dooming Adam nonsense. The "fruit of knowledge" Sengoku is apparently attaining is the full awareness of her actions, as well as the liberation of her own mental constructs and societal expectations. It would be way too obvious to go down this route, but with all the imagery, especially that cutaway scene with Sengoku eating fruit during the Shinobu conversation.

That was a fantastic episode! Tsukihi really is fucking awesome, that's 3 people now that destroyed Nadeko and read her like a damn open book. Of course I feel bad for her, but those things need to be said.

That outburst of Nadeko was fucking amazing, I did not expect it at all, she spit out facts like a machine gun. You could say Kuchinawa is at fault for that, but all of that came from her Nadeko herself and I think it's good that she was able to speak her mind but damn girl. HanaKana did a fantastic job with that damn, I think that was the first time I ever heard her speak like that.

Lmao, Nadeko actually found the vessel in Araragi's mags. Oh shit, that's an interesting cliffhanger, I wonder what's going to happen that will lead to what we saw in the beginning.

Nadeko is painfully relatable. But at the same time, I don't find people's reactions to her to be very realistic. I know, unfortunately from experience, that being shy and introverted indeed make you seem like some cute doll to people's eye, but that's really just how they'll see you, they're not necessarily helpful or anything like that. They're very mocking actually, since they know you won't say anything and don't express any pain from being judged like that. I've been like that for a long time (I'm fortunately growing out of it even if it's hard) so I know very well how people react, and honestly I would've liked if they were a tiny bit considerate. (Even if I totally agree that being treated like a puppy is one of the most irritating things ever.) More than that, in Nadeko's case she is naturally like that, but in most cases, people become like that due to bad experiences.
Which is why I also don't like how Nadeko is constantly blamed for "running away". Trying to protect yourself from people's harm is purely human. It's not what I would call running away, even if I understand why the show makes it look like it.
Another thing I didn't like is Tsukihi cutting Nadeko's bangs. One of the things I despise the most in real life is people thinking they know better than you what you need and instead of simply providing you advices, force you into situations you aren't comfortable with. That's exactly what Tsukihi did here. Even more, the fact that she clearly admitted she only liked Nadeko for being cute sucks even more. That's because of people like her that it's hard to have self-confidence. I know that Tsukihi is a relatively messed up person start with, but I don't like how the show is making it look like she is in the right there. If someone does that to you, run away, that's a toxic person.

Now after this long rant I really look like I don't like this arc, but that's not the case. I understand the overall message and I like it. I also understand that Nadeko is someone who doesn't have a particularly difficult past and is just like that out of pretty much cowardice. I just felt frustrated due to the clumsy direction and needed to express that because I just find it unfair. This arc kinda reminds me of Nekomonogatari Shiro but in the latter's case, it was done in a much better way, I loved this arc, because it pointed out Hanekawa's flaws without completely calling her out and instead sympathizing with her struggles. The fact that it's doing the opposite with Nadeko makes me think that might be why people hateher so much if the show pushed that to a bigger degree in the last episode. Well, I'll see.
