Carol, carol, CAROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.
Some jazz opening following up with two characters almost breaking the fourth wall.
Interesting anime, immortal people in a normal world, PUSSY train and what more.
I'm still confused with what they're trying to do, OST is nice. The old school anime art is alright.

And why the hell is the train called flying pussyfoot LMAO

Damn, that was..something. Seems really interesting though, loving the characters and their designs, especially the thieves. Can't say I really understood what was going on though lmaoo had to rewatch certain bits, especially the beginning to actually make sense of them. First episode, and we're already bombarded with info. I hope the rest of the show isn't like this. The storytelling method might seem artsy or whatever but it is incredibly confusing.

And so, SOO many characters. jeez. The OP is great, though and I have to say I still enjoyed it.
+Pussy train lmao let me get aboard that

Not excited to see the rest. It was just a mess showing all the characters. All I know is that they are all immortals and the couple are annoying.

That was a little confusing because a whole bunch of characters have popped in just one episode and the scene cuts makimg it even more difficult to follow. I did not understand the sideplots very well so far.

So it starts off with Gustav, the vice president of a newspaper agency and Carol, his assistant and they're gathering info about our main characters.
So there's a mafia war going on between the Martillo Family and the Bagetta family.

And yeah Firo does look like he's the most likely to be the main character cause of his attitude. I'm guessing he and this Gandor guy are alchemists. That kid who got his head blown off regenerated so even he's immortal.

Looks like Ladd's a mad ladXD(wtf was even going on in that scene). Isaac and Miria remind me of Bonny and Clyde. Is that the reference?

I literally had to go through a summary of this episode because I barely understood the parts other than the mafia stuff. I hope that the pacing won't be this erratic in the following episodes.

What a way to start off a show. Firstly, that OP was absolutely fire - pure jazz openings are always a hit in my books. The discussion over how to tell the story of Baccano was funny in the beginning of the show, with neither character being able to agree upon who and what to focus on or where to start. I must say, even after picking a beginning point I remained thoroughly confused as a constant stream of characters was introduced in rapid succession. So far the key connections that have been presented are the relation to the mafia groups and their ongoing feuds, as well as the ability to survive some genuinely brutal and gory attacks through some magical healing abilities. Looking forward to seeing how this series goes from here and how everything will tie together as we go along.

lots of character introduced in the first ep not a very big fan of it
loved the way the way Gustav's seiyuu says "carol"...also the jazz ost is great :3
some characters have regeneration abilities like Firo....gotta see more of this to make some sense in my head as it was a big mess

Ngl, pretty confused, but I'm sure it'll piece itself together as we go along. I don't plan to watch this right now, just thought I'd watch the first episode to see if it's something I'd be into. And if I can eventually make sense of all the timelines and such, yes this should be a fun watch.

Considering its setting, I've already heard much about how the dub makes for a superior experience than the sub this time around. And yeah the dub is quite solid, and indeed probably better fitting for this location and time period. Anyway, I'll be back to watch the rest later. Currently watching Black Clover lol

EDIT: so yeah I've finally picked it up again, I left a new post down below and just scrolled up to see what I said the last time I tried to watch this.... and dang I didn't know it was almost a year ago. Anyway, I've pretty much finished everything on my PTW list, and am just re-watching some stuff now like the Fate series, AOT (the final season part 3 part 1 just dropped a few days ago, and am re-watching the whole thing now because it just relit the hype in me. I'll be getting back to re-watching that after I've finished Baccano), and a few others I plan to re-watch like FMAB. Baccano has been sitting in my on-hold list for nearly a year now, and it's time to actually watch it, and possibly enjoy it for the banger that I hope it is.

Damn, the opening has no lyrics? It had nice visuals though.

First of all, there are way too many characters lol.

Oh god, that boy getting shot in the head was pretty graphic. At least his head is 'back together'

I'll be honest I didn't understand a whole lot from the first episode. Still not sure who's the main character. Is it Issac? Firo? Who? I did understand that there's some conflict going on between mafia gangs and families. And many people are indirectly connected to it somehow?

Also, wtf is the power system here? I'm really not understanding anything. Am I the only one?

What I do know is that in this train accident, the survivors/or just unrelated people have developed some powers with which they can not die, heal completely and that too extremely fast. Right?

Idk man first episode was quite disappointing. I barely understood anything. I don't even have a clear picture of what I should be expecting. I'm definitely not suited to this narration style

That was pretty hard to understand. All I know is that there's some kind of mafia wars going on and their people are immortal.

I've never been more confused by a first episode of an anime before.

There is so much happening at once, with so many characters being introduced and so many people dying. I can't keep track of everything that's going on. It's like being thrown into a fight without knowing anything about your opponents.

And the flying pussyfoot throws me off every time it's mentioned hahaha. I'd never laughed so hard at a train's name before.

However, I’m enjoying it so far, especially the name of the train that keeps making bursts out laughing.

i'm definitely intrigued and hooked already. some parts are confusing but i'm pretty sure that's the point, and that everything is supposed to come together later on. atleast that's what i heard from other people about baccano.
what i've gotten so far is that some of the people here are pretty much immortal, or they can heal from any wounds. pretty interesting concept.

This feel like it could be fun even if I might not get an idea of what is happening, most of the characters presented didn't look annoying so I'm intrigued on how things will go from here.

There wasn't a single dull moment so that's good.

I tried on two separate occasions to get into this, but this first episode has both times just lost me completely. However, I am determined to watch this in full, as from what it sounds like, it's something that I will eventually very much come to love. So many characters, seemingly so many different plot lines, but at least I get the gist of it. They are all coming together to meet and clash on this train, where shit is going to (or has already) go down. If the rest is as crazy as it is here with little connection between anything, I wouldn't even try to watch more. But apparently, and thankfully, it slowly all comes together and doesn't always leave you scratching your head- I hope.

Watched a clip from the trash taste podcast, and they favour the dub over the sub, for the setting it takes place in, but also there's a couple big names actually for the dub. I probably won't recognize them personally, but hey even though I almost never watch anime in dub (I think I can count the number I've watched dubbed on one hand: FMAB, HxH, Code Geass, and a couple more I don't remember. So yeah it's been a hot minute since I've watched a dub), I will gladly watch an anime in dub if it's good. So yeah, just thought I'd mention that for whatever reason. And I must say, it is quite nice to not have to be looking down at the bottom of the screen all the time, and just be able to listen to the conversations instead of reading them. Anyway, that's enough from me. I'm looking forward to actually finishing Baccano! this time, and quite possibly becoming a favourite.

It is not mysterious instead a confusing story. I think it could have been executed properly as it bounces around instead of piecing the timeline by cutting to other characters' perspective. And the animation is smooth but characters lack detailed faces.

Not a bad start to be honest. I always like the 20th-century setting since I'm a huge fan of the Golden Age of Hollywood classic movies. When I first saw that it was "1930's" I couldn't help but grin. The OP is great. The ED is okay.

I can't say more about this anime yet. Hello!!! It's the first episode.

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!

This show feels so tarrantino lol

This is my second watch and I think this episode starts the show off really well.

Its pretty confusing, but I think its suppose to be like that. As the story progresses, the show will start making a lot more sense.

Its been 10 years since I've watched this, so its almost like watching it for the first time as I've forgotten most of it. Just remember the characters really. Was going to watch in Sub but I will do dub again, its just too good.

4/5, good episode to reel in the viewer for this show, although it is confusing, so I can understand why people would be turned off from the first ep

It is one of the first few anime that I ever watched; so, I didn't realize at the time the iconic voice of Gustav St. Germain. Dude has voiced Mechazawa from Cromartie High School and Master from Maison Ikkoku. He has such a unique and unmistakable voice! Glad to be rewatching this show again.
