*yawn*

Well that was a first. A boring LotGH episode? What? But it's true. This arc has such a weak link to the franchise, you could just change character names and it would be another anime entirely.

Only highlight was when Kircheis woke up from being gassed, I thought he was about to orgasm or something.

dunno I kinda like th episode. Kinda interesting to watch the whole mystery unfold. Cant help feel bad for old man Michael.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

The whole part about drugs in the miltary and how officers would use them to make soldiers subservient was interesting. The comparison between between military service and drug addiction as well.

As for the mystery, it quite obviously points to Basel being the ring leader trying to frame Keyserling. I'll go further and say, Basel was the man who ordered his fleet to fire before the scheduled time. Keyserling probably kept quiet so as not to put Basel, and therefore his love Johanna, in trouble. I speculate of course but it is quite harmless in this case. :)

Wait let me add that Johanna actually liked Keyserling but had already been proposed to by Basel when Keyserling tried his luck. :P

Well, I don't know about you Beatnik, but I kinda like this arc. It's not super-amazing so far, but I like the characters. Hoffmann as well as Keyserling are pretty interesting imo. I also liked the dialogue this episode. Looking forward to next episode.
I probably regret this post by now.

Good episode, I think the use of drugs is an interesting storyline. I also think Basel is attempting to frame Keyserling.

It was slow but interesting. I actually suspect Hoffman (I call him 'Colonel Kentucky' minus the glasses and the beard) for no reason at all or maybe I just don't like him for manipulating Kircheis. :)

Despite the fact that this is another mystery-story, so far I actually find this arc more interesting than the last one. Maybe it's because of the supporting characters, which I personally like more than the students and teachers at the military school. As for who the culprit is, right now the Basels seems to be the most likely choice; either one of them or both working together. It would be pretty interesting if Johanna turned out to be the actual mastermind but I'm not sure that's very likely.

Would agree that this arch is alot better than the other mystery arch . . . Anyways, I wonder if the Basels were the ones who put that man up to killing Keyserling, as Sieg noted, the man didn't seem too incompetent, even his failure was due to a retarded fleet that didn't listen. I mean it is impossible to control them at that point (perhaps he was even set up by individuals in that fleet). And perhaps, further still, Keyserling does have some knowledge as to the drug ring (whether it is that he is a member, a former member, or knows about it), and thus in the way . . . However no matter how I look at it, I see Keyserling being the victim in this.

That's a theory. But yeah, I enjoy this arc more. Personally I really like the side characters on the Empire's side, and I appreciate focus on them. I don't know, maybe it's because I don't like seeing Reinhard putting effort into something that seems... petty? I like to see him doing grand things. I like to think Siegfried is an individual of his own and doesn't need to always need to be with Reinhard, so it's nice to see him doing things by himself outside of battle.

Lol when the police guy was explaining the effects of the drug, and Siegfried thought of Reinhard. XD

An investigation serving as a mirror for my favourite character, as excuse for nice metaphors and as yet another revelator for problems in this society? Perfect !

5/5 Although the use of the same form twice (investigation), moreover in a row, is disappointing.

Since it's not the focal point, the case is delivered already solved of course:

it quite obviously points to Basel being the ring leader trying to frame Keyserling. I'll go further and say, Basel was the man who ordered his fleet to fire before the scheduled time. Keyserling probably kept quiet so as not to put Basel in trouble.

The premise of this arc seems promising since there're a bit more details on the usage of thyoxin which was mentioned quite briefly in the original OVA (it's the drug that Terraists were using). However, this episode seemed to have an unnecessary recap of the previous one in the first 2-3 minutes (I believe it was literally the same footage), which was quite disappointing, but nothing disastrous. Looking forward to the next one.

Connecting the dots, Keyserling's friend is arriving at Kreuznach III and in the last episode, the police were informed that those responsible for the drug would be arriving.

Was the attacker high on Thyoxin in episode 1 just out for revenge against his former superior? No, it goes way deeper...

Suffocation by CO2, Kircheis can't catch a break on his vacation, at all.
