I normally can't stand watching dubbed anime, the voices are lousy and it spoils the whole story for me. However i thought that Baccano! had an excellent cast for dub and the characters seemed really believeable. I just wanted to know if everyone who's watched the dub shares this opinion, and is there any anime out there that tops Baccanos quality of performance by dub actors? Fell free to post any suggestions on my wall :D

I agree. The subbed version isn't nearly as epic as the Funi version, and is probably the best dubbed anime I've seen yet. The voices match perfectly.

I wish all anime dubs were as good as this.

One of the few dubs I like. I really do love the dub verison. I can say I like it better than the orig. Which is an extreme shock for me. Black Lagoon had good dubs. But Baccano's are better.

Yeah, I was actually a bit annoyed by the Japanese dub. I watched nearly the entire series with the English dub- makes me really feel like they're in New York.~

Very yes. Nobody can do Dutch better than a black man himself. Also, ****.

It's understandable as to how the Baccano dub could be superior, but honestly, I don't see Miria and Isaac getting beat out by the Dub Actors. The rest, probs.

Thanks for all of the post so far, I have had Black Lagoon on my plan to watch and have downloaded the subs already, but i may have to find the dub version as its such a rarity for quality english voice acting. Much appreciated everyone and keep up the suggestions!

It's, in my opinion, the 2nd best anime so far out there. (The first is DBZ).

You should try it out, it's very good.

I haven't heard the orig Jap. VAs but you're right, it wouldn't sound right with the Jap. VAs. The Eng. Dubs do a good job and are perfect for the setting.

The only persons voice I don't like is Firos; damn you Raki, such an annoying voice. If you heard the Claymore Eng. Dubs before than you'll know what I'm talking about.

So far I think the dub is pretty good. My favorite so far has been Trigun for English dubs. That stuff was great.

I stopped buying DVDs because I always just watched it in Japanese anyway. Baccano though, I'm going to need to buy. The dub was great, the only way to watch it now, and it's a show that I can keep watching over again.

I watched the show when is was new in Japan, it was good then, but after watching in English, it's topped my list. It's one of the very few anime that the US industry didn't destroy.

This anime reminded me how important it is to grab the dual audio files, and test out the english dub just-in-case.

I realized pretty quick this could sound better in english, when I saw when/where it was set.

Other shows that I've 'confirmed' the english dubs being better in (watched several episodes in both jap and english) are:
Golden boy - You just gotta hear him
and
FLCL - the english voices just sound like they have more emotion and depth to them.

I'm truly surprised that no one has mentioned Cowboy Bebop or Ghost in the Shell's dubs. I thought those were among the best.

Baccano! Is also one of the best dubs I've heard.

I agree, the dub is amazing and makes the baccano feel more authentic. I have some problems with some of the voice acting, but its worth watching. It was good enough that after watching the dub, the sub version seemed weird.

I just started watching this but I can already tell that the dubs are good. Pretty much every other anime I've watched that had dual audio, I would flip to check out the English, only to cringe and quickly set it back.

I have to agree that Cowboy Bebop and GitS: SAC have the best dubs though, I couldn't stand watching either with the original voices.
“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence...”

I liked the dub on this show alot, until I heard Isaac and Miria. From what I can remember, they just didn't have the same enthusiasm in their voice, or maybe it was that they just sounded off. Either way, they sounded better in Japanese.

I haven't yet heard the dub, but I've heard good things. I can't find a torrent of it, though, and I can only find the DVD in region 1, but I want to watch it on my TV rather than the PC... Ah well, I'm sure when I finally move out properly I can just buy a region free DVD player.

I recommend this over the sub not only because it's one of the best dubs ever but since this takes place in America with American characters (and some Italians) you should watch this in the correct language. For other anime that take place in Japan you can argue that the sub is better where characters have Japanese as their native language, but for Baccono! not only does it have excellent voice acting (unless you can’t stand jersey accents) but it fits this American crime anime better. I definitely prefer and recommend the English dub over the sub.

I tried watching this series both dubbed and subbed. This series is set mainly in New York and the characters are all mainly English and Italian(Mafia). Due to setting of this anime, the dubbed version actually fit perfectly and most of the voices were done perfectly. If you are going to watch this Anime and you have the option of either dubbed or subbed, I would highly recommend going with the dub. (I am a person who despises almost all dubbed anime, however this series was an exception, and it was perfect)
Will you be able to do.... what must be done?

I'm totally with Plummtee.

I definitely favor subbed anime over dubbed (since I don't speak Japanese). However Baccano, I think is best watched in English. I think it is richer in English partly because the acting and seiyu choices, but mostly because you get the different cultural accents of the American melting pot of that time, aside from the fact that it does take place in America. The Japanese seiyu did a great job, don't get me wrong.

I just think this is better in English for the full effect.

This, really.

I heard a bit of the dub on the FUNimation channel and liked the few moments I saw so I decided to stick with the dub on this one. I was totally pleased. It's seriously on my must buy list now. <3

One of the other dubs I've preferred over the Japanese off the top of my head is Kodocha. I love that dub so hard and really wish it'd be completed.

Not that I have anything against the subs, but there are just a couple of instances I think the English dub goes above and beyond. I remember reading at some point that the director of Cowboy Bebop said the English version was better than the Japanese one, but I have yet to see it myself.

Baccano!'s dub was great in many ways that the original Japanese version can't be, especially since the series was set in America in the first place. But there're few problems.

Like Claire. For me, mainly Claire. Claire's English voice was angry, just sounded SO MAD. That's not Claire. Claire is arrogant, proud, and more confident than anyone could ever be. (I'm sorry I worship him too much)

That aside though, I think the dub's overall better than the original Japanese version, especially because of its authenticity.

hearing the english dub of ladd's lines made me throw up. he's supposed to be a psychopath, not some run-off-the-mill badass. issac and miria too had their personalities totally fucked up by the dub. classic example of a shitty dub.

I could never imagine watching SAC dubbed, but that's because I watched SAC after the original GitS and Innocence. Even if they run in parallel, rather than sequential, it'd be weird to switch from Japanese to English for the same characters.

I also didn't like the Black Lagoon dub, because you actually miss out on a lot of English accents during the Japan arc, and though the dub fits the settings better it does not in fact fit the characters that well.

I do agree on Cowboy Bebop, and I also watched Jormungand dubbed because of the accents and mispronunciations of foreign names in the sub. The best dub for me has to be Ergo Proxy though.

Regarding Baccano!, I tried the dub, but it doesn't seem to fit the characters (same as with Black Lagoon), or it seems to be out of sync with the animation quite often. I just started this series, but I think I'm going for sub.

Watching dubbed now. Just needed to get used to them, mainly Isaac. His English dub is pretty darn good, if just for a moment you can forget how amazing his seiyuu is. Miria's dub I actually like better than her seiyuu. Her voice in Japanese is very unique, but just starts to get to me after a while.

Definitely one of the best dubs so far. If you're looking for another great dub, Death Note was awesome.

The reason this anime wins is for the American accents, probably best played by Americans (no offense).

Idk much, but I watched a little of the dubbed ver. of 2nd episode just to check Isaac and Miria's voices. And I was fairly disappointed. Sounded flat as compared to their voices in subbed. Japanese nuance just sounds more pleasant imo. The script seems to be a non-issue tho, so there's that at least.

Death note dub is another one.
And still, Bill will live on.
He will befriend the next inhabitants of the earth, beings of light who revere him as a god.
And Bill will outlive them all... for millions and millions of years...exploring, learning, living,
until the earth is swallowed beneath his feet.
Until the sun is long since gone.
Until time loses all meaning and the moment comes that he knows only the positions of the stars
and sees them whether his eyes are closed or open.
Until he forgets his name and the place where he'd once come from.
He lives and he lives until all of the lights go out.
