I think one of the biggest issues with this anime is consent. It seems like a lot of the times Usami forces himself on Misaki, and it's kind of disturbing. The only reason I rated it as high as I did was because this is addressed in season 2.

I bring this up because I noticed one of the reviews for the show was very critical due to this reason. Someone even brought up to me once that the author of this series, even in Sekaiichi Hatsukoi (though much less so in that series) often uses force in an attempt to bring characters together. It's kind of disturbing.

Basically, I'm just curious as to others' opinion on this matter, so I encourage you to chime in with your opinion.

I don't think yaoi authors usually know how to depict healthy gay relationships and so they end up using "rape=love" instead. It's disturbing but nobody cares in the end

That's so blunt, and yet so true. XD

I guess it depends on BL fan, some don't mind it, and others do. It's used very often in yaoi m&a after all, so it's definitely not just hated by everyone. Personally I have nothing against it, at least if it's executed nicely and uke enjoys it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) (like in JR).

Seems like at least Japanese fangirls like it quite a lot, it's a common theme in yaoi, but also in shoujo manga/otomege.

That was one of the issues that disturbed me the most in season 1. It's funny because some fans of the series think that it is sexy how Usami molests Misaki all the time. This matter, as well as the fact that Usami is possessive and doesn't let Misaki make any friendships, go out etc. has made me think that this relationship is unhealthy. In season 3 things are kind of improved hence I gave a higher rating.
Misaki solely referred to this issue and said Usami didn't force him.. even though that's kind of a relief, it still seems to me like a half-assed way to settle this quickly.
