Do you ever recommend JoJo to friends? If so, how much success do you have with it? I've told a couple friends to watch it, and they either haven't or have just seen a few episodes.

I think the trouble with recommending the series is that while many people love the first couple parts, especially 2, others think they're not that great. Going on, Part 3 is known for being very long and repetitive. It's not until Parts 4 and 5 where you get the material that is the most "JoJo" and well-liked by others. Naturally, though, many people would not be convinced to tough out the first few parts if they don't like them just so they can get to "the good stuff". What do you guys think?

Three times so far the first one doesn't seem it worked, the second it could have worked but fate decided otherwise and the last it was more to illustrate the absurdity of what anime and manga can be.

My friend recommended it to me and I got through part 4 and took a break in order to keep up with the seasonal animes. I recommended it to another friend of mine and he watched it all. He always tells me that I need to go back to finish it.

Depends: short answer yes, long answer if they already know jojo and they say they don’t like it, I dont (even if they haven’t watched it/stopped at first parts)
I’ve been mostly successful in recommending it tho (+ I didn’t know about stands when I started watching it and honestly I loved phantom blood)

yeah, I've talked about it to my friends. most have only watched a few episodes, if any. I actually broke down the lore of part 1 because they asked me once.

pretty soon though, me and a friend are going to watch jojo from the beginning

I've already recommended it to some of my acquaintances, but only one who actually watched it. Within the battle shounen genre, I consider Jojo to be at least a unique experience.

I'm a big fan of Jojo, but I don't recommend it to anyone, both due to the fact that most people who watched it or tomorrow hate it, and for other factors. I believe that to consume a work, the consumer needs to invest something, and go with "open arms" for new experiences. But most people go there with the intention of hating the work, and end up actually hating it... I don't think this is a determining factor, but it does have an influence.

@Kisaragi_Toka Based on your list or not, you should definitely watch JoJo. I say watch the first two parts (combined into one season) and at least some of the third. If you think Part 3 is absolutely terrible, drop it; otherwise, keep going as it's likely you'll enjoy the other parts a lot. I hope you like it!

kinda hot take but honestly, outside of the meme it doesn’t matter if you or someone you recommend skips parts. I started the series back in 2016 as part 4 was just being released as an anime, my friend Santiago told me to check out. He had done a sorta shitty job in his explanation of how the parts worked by saying “they all connect but you don’t need to watch them to understand the story” and honestly 9 parts in, and now one of my favorite series ever…he was right. Watching part one only serves one purpose Dio and the Joestar hate boner, part 2 while quality doesn’t add anything to the parts going forward other than one of the best Jojo’s, part 3 imma be honest i thought didn’t get good until egypt, it seems like part 4 onward is when fans and casual viewers of anime seem to really lock in and for good reason. You should recommend what you like and not be afraid to say “hey it’s all really good but those first couple of parts are a little dated.”

Probably the anime I was recommended the most even before becoming an anime fan, strangely it's one of the more mainstream anime in my country or it's just a coincidence

Most of my close friends actually watched jojo by their own but the ones that didn't they all watched actually pretty quickly. I think it really depends on the personality of your friend, if it matches with jojo's they probably will finish it quickly with no struggles. On the other hand, if it doesn't, they will have a hard time getting past part 1 and 2, maybe even dropping it before it actually gets really good (part 3 imo)

Despite JoJo being one of my favourite pieces of fiction ever, I find it really hard to recommend to anyone because of just how terrible of a first impression Part 1 imparts.

I first learned of JoJo through a recommendation, and when I first tried watching it I dropped it part way through despite that person warning me ahead of time that P1 was bad. It took me a few months to get to pushing through and only started enjoying it at all in Part 2.

@ivan-semi-weeb changed shift and because he got back on daylight shift his girlfriend took over his free time that he would have used for anime.
