Ok - i just finished the anime and i was like "wtf - why was i watching this?"
i think the anime had its nice parts and i liked the many different characters.
But! The longer i watched the show the more i wondered what the story behind the blade children was. it got weirder and weirder so i was curious how the ending would solve all that.
and now i sit here with absolutely NOTHING - all i know is that the blade children only have 7 ribs or something...

it's like all this setting was just made up to provide the viewers with some fancy crime sites that ayumu can solve with his hair-raising theories (that turn out to be right of course)

For me that was just a nice side dish - i expected a full fledged story.

Well that was quite the disappointment.
Can't be thats just me right?

Short answer: It's in the manga.

Thoughtful answer: What if there's nothing special about the Blade Children after all, except for the fact that they happen to be short a rib? What if the mere mystery of them is the sole reason people hate, fear, and seek to kill them?

(At odds with what you find out in the manga, but... a friend of mine interpreted the series that way, and I thought it was kinda neat.)

... a missing rip is why they are targeted to be killed?
there are so many people out there missing much more important things in this world: like a leg - there are also siamese twins... in our current world they are (thank god) seen as normal human beeings just like you and me - the anime's setting is not in mediaval times ...

but thanks for you opinion! i guess they just tried to create an interesting setting to distinguish themselves from other animes of that genre.

This series makes the viewer ask half a dozen questions in the very first episode and then doesn't answer a single one. Just saying "read the manga" doesn't make this situation any better. They butchered the story of an anime that started incredibly well. They gave us answers to nothing thus they gave us no story.

What are the Blade Children? Well its really the only question in the series I can answer without spoiling anything. If you don't want to read the manga and just want this story to make more sense then read on:

However, if you're forced to read the manga to find answers to every single question then the Anime did a very poor job. Spiral could have been so much more.

Me too! I just finished it and I'm still wtf they should have continued it or made a season 2! Because not all people find reading mangas fun but I think I'll give it a try then since I really wanna know more about the story in this without reading the spoilers *_* But I wonder, have they finished the manga or is it continuing or is it unfinished and will never be finished ._.? Would suck if I feel the same way for the manga as I did for the anime then if it were unfinished :s

Exactly, nothing was explained, nothing about his brother, the hunters, the blade children. And anything in the anime was crappy too, the mysteries, the art, the characters. There was no reason to watch this show other than to cross it out of my plan to watch list.

I swear the people here are idiots.Everything is explained in the manga they just choosed to make a bad filler-ish second half because the manga was on-going.But then again you can't expect everybody to like a certain show

Oh since it's explained in the manga that means that the anime had a good story. No it doesn't, everyone knows that it is explained in the manga, it's that we shouldn't have to read the manga to get the rest of the story. This is about the anime not the manga.

+1 Pretty much :)

I don't think the second half was filler-ish, it just had a lot of unnecessary parts that could have been executed more efficiently.
