Something is definitely wrong here, Tetsurou keeps killing people (cyborgs) like nothing.

Haha, really.

It appears that some robots (albeit unsophisticated ones) want, on the contrary, to buy flesh and blood bodies. And they're poor too: their real body must have been sold. This leads me to ask: who is Maetel? During the 2nd episode I was wondering whether she was a robot or a human, and of course the first episode introduced questions as to her motivations: could it be that the reason why you can get a free mechanical body is because you trade it for your own, and could it be that Maetel is a robot desiring to exchange her body for Tetsurou's?

"However, if you restrict another's freedom, it becomes a sin. That is the law of this planet". So, basically, the hindrance to the fundamental principle of freedom has became a moral sin instead of a crime? That's ridiculous. This is not what the old woman calls "true freedom". True freedom exists when nobody can harms yours - as long as you don't encroach on the other's. And such a place can't exist: the old woman lived in a luxurious hotel, but how have such a world made the construction of this hotel possible? I can't imagine it.

With each episode it just keeps asking the question if Tetsuro really wants a mechanical body. I look forward to his decision in later episodes.

And yea, poor Claire. Gave her life for Tetsuro, and they threw her remains like some garbage.

Tetsurou looks out of window and wind ruffles his hair. Wind. In space.

Well someone was threatening her in episode 1, so she may not be doing this of her own free will.
My guess was actually different (and naïve, when I look at it now) - that they want to make an experiment on whether they'll be able to persuade the boy determined to get mechanical body to change his mind through the course of this journey. But then again, if that was the case, why would that mysterious stranger behind the curtains have to threaten Maetel?

At first I thought that's it's forbidden, and hence a question arose: "How is killing or abducting someone not restricting this person's freedom?", but having sins is fine, probably.

Goodbye Claire. Incidently she just showed how real bodies are more valued than non real bodies (and it was the same thing in the previous episode). Glad to already see the quest for immortality is not without a price.

Also did the old woman just give Tochirou's (Harlock's best friend) gear to Tetsurou? Pretty fancy reference.

An interesting yet strange first part and an even weirder second part but I did find it quite lovely! Quite nice of an episode in general though.

What I do speculate from these past episodes is that the 999 Express is actually not for taking people to this special planet where you can get changed to a robot/cyborg for free but actually letting them understand that a human body is better/worth more? Or at least something in those lines. It's just a speculation of these 3 first episodes though, so I do wonder what the story will offer us!

I liked the first half, but the second half had absurd logic. I find this series intriguing so far but the world building on behalf of Titan was pretty poor and I don't agree that a society like it is possible...

It's not a proper episode of 999 if Tetsurou doesn't shoot somebody.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Tetsuro really was happy when he killed that dude lol. This kid has zero moral qualm for murdering potential threat.

Also glass body? Who tf thought that was ever a good idea? Is it because it's cheaper than a normal body, so trading is profitable? Man if you want cheap, go with plastic or something. I mean there's zero scientific logic in this universe, so why not sth more practical? Glass, seriously?

Lol at that 'muh body hot blood' theme getting slapped on the face every episode too. Claire's death was if anything funny.

Also that's the most absurd worldbuilding ever, accompanied with the dumbest notion of 'freedom' I've ever heard. True freedom apparently implies doing whatever you want quite literally, but not taking other people's freedom as per the law? Ok that's a fuck ton of plot holes and legitimate stupidity in writing.

First of all, being allowed to do anything already encompasses the ability to take other's freedom as well. So in a way, freedom in the purest sense doesn't exist, or at least not in the human world. Being able to preserve your own life is the most fundamental principle of freedom. Killing, stealing, kidnapping, these are the most prominent acts of 'taking other people's freedom'.

So that leaves the question, what tf is even 'not being able to take other people's freedom' anyway? That's right, it means nothing. Also how can everything on this planet look so nice? I'm sure someone has attempted to nuke the place once or twice out of free will before. Or destroy/vandalize shit. With such anarchistic nature of the planet, it should've resembled sth like Fist of the North Star rather than this high-end Greek looking society. Who even funds this shit hole? How is any of this even possible?

Poor Claire, she didn't deserve that.

Meanwhile, Titan is really a scary place, where the concept of freedom is a rather deviant interpretation of what it actually means. At least Maetel and Tetsuro will continue their journey in peace in GE 999.

They were on Titan for like 5 seconds before it got wild. She was strapped and she was taken first! This show goes so hard! 5 tragic deaths in 3 episodes and a random murder and kidnapping in broad daylight is pretty extreme for any show. Titan is a libertarian planet. That's... not what I was expecting.

Is the g in “Grape Valley” silent????

It's a shame that Claire had to die. Tetsurou was deeply saddened by it.

Titan is a dangerous planet to live on. It looks beautiful, but what's the point, if someone can come up and legally shoot you dead just for something to do?

Such strong Star Blazers vibes in the series. I'm loving it! Feels like I'm back in the early 80s watching cartoons in the living room.

C'mon... I can't get attached to characters who're 80% likely to die in the same episode they're introduced in. I'm going to give this until episode 6, and hopefully it can do something for me. :\
