Yeah, I can sort of understand Harlock's reasonings for his behavior in this episode, but really, I cannot understand why he cannot a safer place for Mayu than that school. Episode 7 showed that the Commander was willing to let her die to kill Harlock.

Daiba is still too vengeful and nearly got himself killed again. At least maybe now he'll understand more about Harlock not being as merciful as he seems. And I wanted to think he was being stupid in diveriing his attention away from the Queen's fleet to "recharge" with Mayu, but he saw through the Queen's strategy to pull him away from Earth so the Mazone would have an opening. Decent episode I guess.

This has been driving me crazy, too. I understand that the ship is no place for a little girl, and Earth is iffy, too, but really- he's going to leave her in a school straight out of a Dickens novel, but with more ties to the military and an oddly institutionalized desire to kill him? It seems like a continual bad move.

That aside, I was really amused by Yatteran's reaction when Daiba got his hands on his submarine model. It was good comic relief in the midst of some intense melodrama.

Daiba playing with the Yamato model in the bath was of course a reference to an earlier Leiji Matsumoto series, Uchuu Senkan Yamato, in which a WW2 battleship is turned into a spaceship. We can also see a similar design in Harlock's ship, as Arcadia looks like an offspring of a battleship and a pirate ship, the aft even looking wooden, and with a classic ship helm. The same principle also applies to the steam train spaceship in Galaxy Express 999.

Harlock visiting Mayu and being ambushed by the general is getting really old, repeating that scene in endless variations doesn't seem to have any purpose.

Tadashi almost got himself killed there. He's lucky that the Arcadia crew got him back in one piece.

The Mazone Queen wasn't able to outsmart Harlock this time around.
