Differences in the translations

So I haven't been very happy with the translations that are out there for this film, and in the past week I've put a lot of thought and effort into trying to generate a better translation, and to understand what it was I didn't like about the official translations in the first place. Having now spent the better part of a week immersed in this task, I'm very interested in sharing what I've done, and curious to hear what other people think.

I'm especially interested if you've seen multiple translations of this film, and have found them to be significantly different in how they make you feel. Even just having watched the English DVD's "literal" subtitles in addition to watching the dub is probably enough for you to have opinions about which you prefer and why, although what really interests me is people who have seen subs that use more of the original Japanese terminology than the official DVD did.
