The first 20 minutes were like a light-hearted in-between episode from generic samurai show XY. If I wouldn't know for sure (and I checked several times, lol) that this is episode 2 of ridiculously bad Ninja Resurrection, I wouldn't believe it. It was nothing revolutionary, but not bad at all.
And then it went down the crapper. Again.
Maybe I got it all wrong and this is supposed to be a comedy, because it is definitely fun to watch. If you don't take it seriously.
Just bought this on E-bay, and now I know why it was only 5 bucks. It's not that it is bad really, but is a let down if you go in thinking that it has anything much to do with Ninja Scroll which is worlds better imo.
It really is average so I gave it a 5/10 and I guess it's alright but I am pretty sure it was intended to have more story as watching the 4 baddies kill a ton of villagers and then just having it end that way was rather unresolved.
The first episode was great as guilty pleasure but this one i would recommend skipping. Too many flashbacks and most of the episode is pointless to watch because the series was cut short.
Great performance of Wakamoto Norio again I must say, also the main reason I watched it! But damn that ending, well that's a shame really! Still pretty impressive and grotesque to be honest!
Well that went nowhere. Kinda frustrating that this wasn't finished.
I'm not surprised really but still it could have been completed in like an episode, sure they may have or most likely did have grander plans than that but clearly a showdown between Juubei and those dudes is where all this was going and a single episode would have been able to do that.
The early parts of this episode showed some promise, all that Christian BS was nowhere to be found and the general atmosphere early on was actually quite good. It juxtaposed what was to come making the shocking parts all that more shocking.
Again I thought the Animation in this, no matter how gruesome was actually pretty good but the story really wasn't that engaging and was more as I mentioned for the last episode 'gratuitous for gratuitous sake' and not alot else.
The only problem? Too many flashbacks, but understandable given the low budget. Aside from that it has some absolutely fantastic scenes and even the supposedly "out of place" light-hearted moments only further enforce the dark atmosphere.
watched the blu ray ripped ova and the quality is good, of course thos was cancelled at that time or maybe something happened to the manga... 8/10. a pity it was left out project :/ but it always appreciated the gratuitous gore fest like in the x/1999 movie!

@Berry-Vodka both are based on a book; the manga and anime are pretty unconnected
