There are lots of time travel manga out there. Travelling back to times of Nobunaga is almost a genre in itself now! Eg. Nobunaga concerto, Nobunaga no chef, Drifters, etc. This manga is the same.
It is a bit underwhelming though.
Story. 7/10
In the first chapter we are shown a highschool in modern Japan that excels in sports clubs like Archery, Baseball, Rugby, Kendo, etc. The MC is a guy called Aoi Nishino. He is good at archery but very underconfident. He can’t perform in competitions. Yet like most kids he feels if only he were in the Sengoku period he would have succeeded! Lo
...
and behold, wish granted!(by the mangaka, ofc)
The entire highschool is transported to the past. They take some time to realise what has happened. Many of them fail to accept that they have to kill in order to survive. They need not be afraid of getting charged for murder. Only a few kids and teachers act normally, others are weird. I didn’t like their unrealistic behaviour. Also, I hate cliche love triangles, especially the way it has been superficially placed in this story. But I’m a sucker for historical fiction, so I read on.
Art. 7/10
The art is good. Smooth. Not exceptional, but good. Action scenes are okay.
Characters. 6/10
The MC is soooo timid. I have 2 things to say:
1. I’ve seen weak MC in other manga too, but they are never so weak.
2. A strong MC is more enjoyable to watch. That’s a fact. Weak to strong character arc is good, but a guy who doesn’t improve eg. Matahachi is annoying.
Maybe he will get better, so far only 36ch are out.
The other characters are okay. I find it hard to believe that highschool kendo club can face Hideyoshi. And Table tennis guy can fight off Ninja. These parts feel shallow, with inadequate backstory. This could have been so much more.
Overall. 7/10
I like the plot. The characters are okay. The way the plot is handled is not upto the mark. If it gets any more unrealistic super powered high schoolers beating Nobunaga I might just lose interest.
But there is scope for improvement. 36 ch are available now, as new ones come out I’ll be waiting to read them. If you want a better version of this, just read Nobunaga Concerto.
Not recommended for: philosophy, real romance, comedy.
Recommended for: action, historical fiction, lame romance.
Thank you for reading!
PS. Guys, this is not a bad manga. I just wish it was better.
