A very solid, if uninspired, shoujo romance about a rich girl who goes to work in the kitchen of her favorite Italian restaurant.
Story (7): It's a typical shoujo love story: young woman meets young man. He thinks she's shallow, she thinks he's a jerk. They eventually come to respect and love each other. You've probably seen this before, but Kitchen Pallete is a perfectly reasonable take on the story.
Art (6): Character designs are good, and the style is very typical shoujo. Backgrounds are pretty minimal, which works against trying to portray the restaurant as high-end or special. The
...
food drawings are serviceable, but for a foodie manga I was hoping for more.
Characters (7): Most of the characters play to their tropes most of the time: spoiled girl trying to work hard for the first time in her life; cold guy with a good heart; his womanizing best friend whose really not such a bad guy once you get to know him; etc. Still, Komugi is cheerful and hard-working, and never once did I stop rooting for her; and ultimately, that's the key to a successful shoujo romance.
Enjoyment (7): I tend to like romances with minimal melodrama, and this certainly fit the mold. It was consistently pleasant, if never particularly funny or exciting.
Overall (7): If you tend to like shoujo romances, you'll probably like this one. Nothing groundbreaking here, but Kitchen Pallete is a solid representation of the genre, and you certainly won't regret reading it.
