It's time once again for the annual family gathering on Rokkenjima! Ange Ushiromiya is just getting over a cold, but that won't dampen her excitement at seeing her cousins again! Granddad couldn't be more thrilled to see his beloved grandchildren and throws a special Halloween party where everyone gets lots of treats! By lunchtime on the first day, the aunts and uncles are chatting up a storm, and the cousins are eagerly planning the afternoon's fun. It's the very picture of a happy family-one that in no way resembles the bickering, bitter Ushiromiya clan! What is going on?!

An IMMENSE improvement on the extremely controversial final episode of the original VN, Ryukishi clearly learned from his mistakes and the horrible reception of episode 8 in Japan and crafted an immaculate final act that gives even episode 7 a run for it's money, possibly eclipsing it entirely. Okay so this review is aimed at not only episode 8 but the series as a whole. I had read Higurashi and fallen in love with the way the story was told in the course of question and answer arcs and eventually i learned about Umineko and decided to give it a shot. It was worth it and I'm so happy i read this absolutely beautiful story. It takes a completely new approach to the mystery genre but also doesn't fail to execute what makes any mystery story exciting to read. The suspense and plot twists always keeps you hooked and after being invested in ... the story for more than 7 parts, before you know it you've fallen in love with the characters and can't wait to see how this story will conclude. Now i know that this has been adapted from the visual novel of the same name but since i didn't really have the patience to sit and play through a 100+ hour game i won't speak on the source material and only the manga with no previous biases. Put simply, it's a great story that definitely deserves all of its praise. Of course while telling a story this long it does drag out in certain parts but i can confidently say i was never bored as it kept introducing plot points while also fleshing out the previous ones to paint this beautiful picture of what really happened. One thing to keep in mind though is that it isn't a conventional story and gets very confusing at times, I was so lost in some parts but stuck through because of the sheer curiosity i had...i needed answers lol. Part 8 especially was simply amazing.
The basic premise of the story without getting into any spoilers is the series of murders that takes place on the Rokkenjima island, home to the Ushiromiyas(This is not a spoiler it's literally a murder mystery lmfao).Was it the work of an outsider aiming for the mountain of gold hidden somewhere on the island. Did one of the family members succumb to greed. Or was this entire tragedy orchestrated by the ruler of Rokkenjima, The Golden witch Beatrice. It really is a complete package with comedy, drama, mystery, and romance. Although it might feel repetitive at some points the tension definitely makes up for it.
This twisted battle between Mystery and Fantasy reaches its conclusion in part 8. It was a cathartic ending, I am completely satisfied. To be honest if you've made it past the first 7 parts i don't see why you wouldn't want to read part 8 but if you have not read Umineko and you are interested in reading a mystery manga this is my confirmation to you that it is definitely worth it. I don't know why this manga doesn't have enough recognition even though it's so good. I'm sure most of the people that have read it fully can tell you it is by no means a bad story. All in all great. The reason i gave it a 10 is that it moved me to an extent no other mystery/detective story ever had before. There is a lot of heart in this. As they say....You can't see the truth without love. If you've read through this entire review...what are you waiting for, Go read it lol.

Umineko is a story I believe for those with no standards, or rather I should say, its for those with very different standards from me. I think this series is quite cool conceptually but handled very poorly at times. It is very repetitive. I also find its characters outside of Beatrice to not be even slightly compelling lol.
