Haa Haa is a Josei, Ecchi, Romance, Comedy following the misadventures of a lustful woman. I know the title is daunting but this manga is actually pretty damn funny.
It’s about a young woman named Shibata, who has become a substitute teacher for an all-boy’s High School. However this manga doesn’t take the controversial option of a student-teacher relationship but instead goes for a perverted relationship between herself and a very serious teacher. There isn’t much else to the story, as each chapter has a theme or problem that is focused on, mostly involving Shibata trying to get close to Itsuki. Nothing special this repetitive formula,
...
but what makes this manga even more interesting are the characters’ different mindsets.
Seiko Shibata is very thoughtless, unsophisticated, lustful but most of all she is just plain whacky. This makes her perfect for this kind of comedy and the stern & serious Takaaki Itsuki is the source of some great dialogue. There are a couple other characters but they can be a bit of an annoyance.
The artwork for this manga has a simple and dated look, the characters have nice defined features and the backgrounds are well-drawn. But what’s really good is how it switches to a crude style, for the hilarious moments.
Overall Haa Haa is a great Rom/Com to read and my first Josei manga experience. The romance is done fairly well but it’s somewhat lacking, because it focuses more on trivial problems, slapstick comedy and adult humour. Nonetheless that’s not entirely a bad thing.
