(This section is mostly misc notes. I'll get around to organizing it someday.)
I enjoy watching anime for several reasons.
First the format: The typical 13-ish episodes per "season" is a good length to cover a developed plot without the mundane filler found in most in long, multi-year shows. I also like continuous plot development between episodes. Running-time-wise, a typical anime season is like a movie trilogy broken up into 22-minute viewing increments. It's a great story delivery format.

I usually use my own color scheme for my list. I make the themes available on GitHub.
I have a general key for ratings. I rate shows on a mixture of how well I feel it was objectively done and on how much I personally enjoyed it. For example, a show may be executed very well, but have a plot I consider incredibly uninteresting. And both of those factors have an objective and subjective side to them as well: There's how much I like the goal of the show (more or less, the genre) and how much general enjoyment I got from it on an absolute scale. For example, a show may do what it tries to do very well, but that may not interest me very much.
Some shows, like Baccano! and Cowboy Bebop, are very well done but I still didn't like them very much, resulting in a mixed rating.
- Intriguing ideas introduced through the plot or expressed through the characters.
- An engaging, consistent plot/setting.
- Intriguing, well-developed characters.
- Moe / cute characters.
- Humor.
Here is about what my ratings mean. They tend to be a little on the strict side. It's worth emphasizing that I consider a rating of 6 and above as "good" and worth watching.
- 10 - It was executed nearly flawlessly. The plot, ideas, and characters left a lasting impression on me and are likely unique or original. There was likely a strong "oomph" factor in the plot twists, the character development, or the story's emotional connection. The show is likely very strong in at least 3 areas, and has 1 other it does well at. It serves as a benchmark by which I compare other shows from the genre. It is a personal favorite show of mine.
- 9 - It was very well done. The plot, ideas, and characters are very good and pack a bit of punch and likely at least one of them is original. It is probably strong in 3 areas. Not quite as outstanding as a 10, but still a loved favorite. It may still serve as a benchmark for its genre.
- 8 - It has at least two strong areas, and probably another one or two semi-strong areas. It was very enjoyable. May have had a significant shortcoming.
- 7 - The show probably has two strong areas and is probably weak in a couple of areas. It's enjoyable to watch and I'd recommend it for those interested in that genre of show.
- 6 - The show did at least one thing well, but probably has several weaknesses or shortcomings. It was better than average. It possibly had several strong points with some counter-balancing weak points.
- 5 - An average show. Or possibly a show with a good strength but some strong counteracting weaknesses.
I tend to give OVAs the same rating as the show, unless the quality was noticeably different. It's hard to rate individual episodes and the entire show.
