Tonikaku Kawaii

Nasa Yuzaki is determined to leave his name in the history books. Ranking first in the national mock exam and aiming for a distinguished high school, he is certain that he has his whole life mapped out. However, fate is a fickle mistress. On his way home one snowy evening, Nasa's eyes fall upon a peerless beauty across the street. Bewitched, Nasa tries to approach her—only to get blindsided by an oncoming truck.

Thankfully, his life is spared due to the girl's swift action. Bleeding by the side of an ambulance, he watches as the girl walks away under the moonlight—reminiscent of Princess Kaguya leaving for the moon. Refusing to let this chance meeting end, he forces his crippled body to chase after her and asks her out. Surprised by his foolhardiness and pure resolve, the girl accepts his confession under a single condition: they can only be together if he marries her!

The general consensus will put this anime around an 7-8 with my personal view however it was a phenomenal palate cleanser romance anime that makes jokes about the genre with it's fast paced development of the main couple stuffed with cute moments that are too much to bear sometimes. Romance genre in itself a lot of times can be mediocre and most shows try to use the same plot points to move the story forward with misunderstandings or love triangle debates. This particular show shuts down those tropes quite harshly specially the love triangle one it was the first time I saw it handled in ... such a direct way that it surprised me in a good way even fan favorites like Oregairu, Toradora, Your Lie in April remain tainted by that trope itself even though those are decent shows despite them.

Story itself isn't something you expect to get in a way the strong bond between the two characters are the highlight of the show with some side characters bringing good comedy aspect to it. Since I already said that it is fast paced in terms of seeing the couple get together it will provide some different perspectives on how do they handle this relationship. To be blunt in a sense it's something you think they rushed it and to an extent would even think that the girl has some big motives behind it but as episodes go on it's made obvious that she just really loves him but what most people who start this anime would not expect is regarding the backstory of Tsukasa which is neatly tied into the show with a lot of symbolism and references that gives you clue who she really is. Whether the watcher pieces it together without spoiling themselves is up to anyone but that is one thing that makes it more interesting than your general high school romance. Mc isn't a twink somethimes he is very daring as the relationship deepens but in a sense he is a general nice guy who got really really lucky but what the anime shows you about his past makes him very likeable.

Art style is good nothing much to write home about it's really hard to have problems with it to be perfectly honest.

Overall an easy recommend to people who are into romance and likes feel good anime similar to Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten but without dense mc and fast paced romantic development.

Mixed Feelings

I was honestly really disappointed with this one.
I am not going to say that I expected it to be some groundbreaking revelation. However, from all the hype surrounding it, I initially thought it was going to be unique and interesting and filled with heartfelt episodes and/or sad ones, or something, anything.
Sadly, I must inform you that this show is mostly a generic highschool romcom in disguise (without the highschool drama).
It may not feature a highschool setting, but it does not present anything new to the table that other shows haven't already done.
Yes, it is filled with repetitive dirty jokes. Yes, it is filled with repetitive ... embarassed characters that should not even be embarassed (because, you know, the couple are married. isn't that supposed to mean something?). And yes, the ending is not worth it, so you will just end up disappointed as much as I am.
I mean.. the show doesn't even shy away from letting you know from episode 1 that it would not be that serious nor new nor interesting.
I wouldn't say the show doesn't have its positives, though, as I think the characters are good. I just hate their conversations and the situations they are put in. Rarely would the show give you good scenes where it utilizes the characters to its advantage, and that's what's disappointing about all this. The characters are a big wasted potential. There is one scene in particular where Nasa's parents were very thankful to his wife, Tsukasa, for saving him and it was a really good scene in my opinion. At that moment, I thought to myself, "Why doesn't the show lean more into that path rather than sticking to being a generic romcom?"
If you are a big romcom fanatic, I wouldn't really recommend this. Thers is barely anything here worth spending your time on, unless you don't mind watching one of those "Another romcom for the season".
I have yet to watch season 2, and I actually have a liiiiiiittle bit of hope because of the second OVA titled "Uniform". After watching it, it kinda clicked with me and I realised what the show was trying to do all along. It was trying to gradually increase the level of sexual tension to make you "feel" the scenes where things get spicy. If you are into that stuff, then I might say you struck gold. I mean... when I watched the OVA and got to the scene where Nasa started taking off Tsukasa's stockings I was so fricking on board. Not because I was horny (because I was totally not at the moment. At least not until the scene made me so), but because I realised that season 2 might get out of its "genericness" and start diving deep into the couple's relationship and embrace its core ideas and characters. It is just sad that most of the episodes are mid-tier slice of life; and even when things get spicy, it doesn't feel that rewarding because of that. (PS : no nudes and definitely no sex. Just kisses and hugs, so don't get your hopes up)

A lot disappointed me about this show. This is a really bland and uninteresting cast. I was really disappointed by the main character Nasa because in his first couple scenes, he seemed like a really interesting character. He was kind of a narcissistic cocky asshole who would do anything to get what he wanted. I mean it’s not a good trait but at least it’s something I haven’t seen before in a romcom protagonist so I was interested. But it turns out he’s just another dumbass nervous shy goody-two-shoes. Tsukasa is just a bunch of anime cliches but it also always seems like she’s hiding ... something so it’s hard not to be speculative of her personality. The maids were pointless and cliche, Chitose was annoying but I’m sure she’ll be explained. Aya was enjoyable but the one person who really fucking grinds my gears is Kaname. She is literally just a fucking creepy pervert and no one draws attention to it. They play it off as laughs but imagine if the roles were reversed. She owns this bathhouse and casually cleans the male baths when she knows Nasa is in there naked. She stares and makes comments on his dick even though he keeps telling her to fuck off. This is a small joke in the show but it really pisses me off. Swap the roles and tell me you’re ok with it. Another thing that pisses me off is the mystery element. Nasa just out of the blue marries this chick who just mysteriously knows where he is and he doesn’t question her. He says he has questions but he never asks them. It turns out later she comes from this rich household who she apparently isn’t technically a part of and Nasa once again doesn’t question it. She should be in high school seeing how she’s 16 but he doesn’t question that either (they really just couldn’t make her her 18? Nasa is). He doesn’t try to learn more about her and it’s annoying. They casually imply she’s some immortal (probably Princess Kaguya because of how many references they make to her) but the main character is such a fucking simp dumbass that he doesn’t investigate at all. He just accepts this girl is in love with him after 2 brief meetings and marries her, then doesn’t ask anything about her past. I don’t mind if she withholds information, I just wish he instigated a little. This show’s romance is dumb as well. They only met once before and apparently they’re the perfect couple. No problems whatsoever. Just happy times forever. This is a premise that reeks of conflict and drama but there is none. Just another mind-numbing romcom to add to the pile. (I gave up on season 2)
