NEET Kunoichi to Nazeka Dousei Hajimemashita

Tsukasa Atsumi is a salaryman who leads an ordinary, solitary life. On his way back from work one evening, he is saved from a demon attack by a mysterious woman in a ninja outfit. Introducing herself as Shizuri Ideura, she claims that demons target people like Tsukasa, who have Samurai Blood in their veins, and that her kind have been protecting them from the shadows.

Told by Shizuri that the attacks are going to become more frequent, Tsukasa makes a deal to provide her with housing in exchange for his safety. To his surprise, he quickly finds out that Shizuri is a shut-in who loves to play video games whenever she is not busy with her ninja duties. As the two spend more time together, Tsukasa grows to appreciate Shizuri's company—and his feelings just might be mutual.

This is a very decent and alright casual comedy anime that is unfortunately under-rated(relatively) because the beginning was just generic bad and probably failed 3episode rule for most. If Salad bowl of Eccentrics was the Hinamatsuri of it's season, then NEET Kunoichi is the Salad bowl of it's season. There are many similarities in characters and premise.

It takes a considerable number of episodes to introduce all of the cast, which also might have worked against the show. But once the cast gets established it becomes pretty good enjoyable comedy. The characters get well defined early and shorts turn into enjoyable gag comedy. Not sure ... how to put it in English, it's a women centric show? As in the "main" MC is the FMC, the other girls are the next in focus. The male "MC" and another supporting male character seldom appears and pretty mob-like. It's not a bad thing, just setting your expectations.

It is slightly ecchi, but below average number of fanservice than in your random anime. Most places had tagged this show as ecchi initially which would be wrong in this regard. Some might also dislike a biologically male but female-identifying character being a stalking creep on female characters. It's also not a harem, triangle, polygon or polycule, even though most cover/PVs might imply that.

The production is quite a bit hit or miss. The face caricatures are pretty well done, the narrator that pops up occasionally is also pretty funny. Rest of the elements of production is subpar, but not actively(lazily) bad, just likely budget constraints. I would say watch 6 or so episodes and judge

This is officially 24x 12min episodes but was broadcasted two at a time. The stories are majorly separate shorts with only one or two pairs being full fledged connected 24min episodes. It's easily better than the isekai slops this season, two of which couldn't even make their protagonists look different(Secret shopper and Salaryman).

Mixed Feelings

I’m currently watching NEET Kunoichi to Nazeka Dousei Hajimemashita on Animyne, and while the premise had promise, the execution leaves much to be desired. The story follows a shut-in NEET who suddenly finds himself living with a kunoichi (female ninja) from another world—a setup that could have been hilarious or heartwarming, but instead falls into predictable, underwhelming territory.

The strongest aspect is the core dynamic between the NEET protagonist and the earnest, socially awkward kunoichi. Their interactions have moments of charm, especially when the show leans into the absurdity of a trained assassin adjusting to modern life. However, the humor often feels repetitive, relying too much ... on the same gags—her over-the-top ninja instincts clashing with mundane situations, his laziness being played for cheap laughs.

Where the series really falters is in its lack of ambition. The romance progresses at a glacial pace, the side characters are forgettable, and the plot meanders without any real stakes or surprises. It’s not bad—just painfully average, content to coast on its premise without adding depth or creativity.

Preliminary (6/24 eps)

When a joke lands, it can be a right ol laugh. But when a joke feels like it's either run into the ground, or becomes less and less interesting, you know you have a problem on your hands. Which is where we have NEET kunoichi.

Story and characters: 4
The trouble with the story and characters of shows like this, is that they have to be quick, and try to be impactful as they can. In order to draw your attention. The trouble is, when you're not laughing, at a show that's meant to be gag humor, then it falls flat on its face. The other trouble ... of it, as it seems to borrow comedic elements from other shows at times, other shows that have more interest, and are much more enjoyable then what this show is.

The problem is that the story feels such one note and shallow, and with it's gag humor, if it's not hitting, then it can be the most eye rolling thing. Ithas nice and cute weird characters sure, but when just feels like as if it's there, and that's it, it doesn't feel anything special at all. Not the worst anime by any stretch, but certainly nothing special, that you won't be too fussed in missing. Characters are such one note, that if the jokes aren't making you laugh, then they'll get tiring real quick.

Art and sound: 6
This is where it can be seemed as it's best trait. There is a lot of neatly flowing animations, and can be flashy, and fitting for purpose. While some elements don't look so great, but there is some level of care put into it at least, you can give the show that. If it deserves anything at all. Being colourful when it wants to be, or being grim and dark when it needs to be. As if all the care and attention has been on the art and sound side, and that's it's biggest highlight of the entire product.

NEET Kunoichi is quite the afterburner show, the kind you'd watch after you finish one of the big hits of the season, and then that's it. Though I highly doubt many would be jumping at the gun to watch this. It's not the worst, but certainly not anything special.
