No this placement is not ironic

Too meandering and slow to be of much value, and the mystery at the core of it isn't particularly interesting. Every new bit of information provides so little value in terms of progressing the mystery and "horror" elements of the story that it feels like a waste of a scene. The biggest upsides are the art, animation, and art direction along with slightly above average character designs, but those aren't enough to justify the flaws. Holy shit it's suddenly really good now why wasn't it this good all the way through??? The first 10 episodes are so bad and then the last 2 are amazing

Absolutely horrendous and offensive trans and nonbinary rep plus abhorrent animation. Show expects us to care about characters who have had absolutely no development that we're being gaslit into believing they've changed. The show is also super ugly at times, as the studio didn't know how to visualize anything that wasn't a posed image. Characters faces and hair (parrocularly Tuesday) look hilariously deformed at times. Legendary soundtrack tho.

I gave it a 10 in 2019 but need to rewatch

It's not so bad it's good. It's literally just good. The deliveries are funny, the jokes appeal really well to my sense of humor, it's just genuinely hilarious. Only the dub obviously

Full episodes are spent on stories that I don't care about and that don't really make me care any more about the main game. The art direction, art itself, animation, and characters are enough to make this pretty enjoyable for me, but I really can't get over the barrage of mediocre writing and asides that feel pointless. Overall, I just don't think having 13 episodes be sent on essentially 1 game was a good idea (Season 3 was pushing it with 10) particularly if the writing isn't strong enough to make it good.

On a rewatch I could see myself giving this show any rating from 7-10. The characters are great, the disturbing moments are shocking and the plot is fascinating.

It's like SAO if SAO was written by someone with more than three brain cells and had actually played an MMORPG. It's also hilarious. We need more in the small girl with big shield trope instead of small girl with big sword. Plus the main character is so hilariously monstrous, it's great. Very chill and watchable, but visuals could use a LOT of work (it's kinda ugly and bland as is with the notable exception of some gorgeous standout moments and absolutely amazing fight choreography) but the rest of the elements more than make up for it. High 7 to mid 8.

MASSIVELY underpreformed my expectations. It's boring, slow, I don't like or care about any of the characters because of how basic their characterizations are and all of the art looks like shit. Only redeeming part is the animation but well-animated shit is shit nonetheless. Kinda just generic Shonen but bad. I would say I expected more from MAPPA after Chainsaw Man, but I can't really say my hopes were too high because of MAPPA's hit or miss record. The fight choreography is also really stunted and awkward and feels largely unnatural.

I like the episode with the little alien dude. the rest is ok. Show's kinda just all over the place 99% of the time and meanders without much of a point

It does not, in fact, still hold up. I can't rate it lower which it deserves because of nostalgia. Sorry internet
