Kondo wa Aisaka (A Good Husband)

Just returned from the North American Premiere of A Good Husband. From Director Isao Yukisada , based on a play by Mayumi Nakatani. Starring Etsushi Toyokawa (20th Century Boys) & Hiroko Yakushimaru (1 Litre of Tears.)
The timing and encounters between the main characters on the screen did feel like I was watching a play, but the cinematic qualities I think enriched the drama of the story. I also realized while watching this that I seem to be drawn to characters named "Bun." hehe

Darling wa Gaikokujin
I went to the US Premiere of "My Darling is a Foreigner." I noticed they changed the name of the theater recently to some generic title. I miss the old name, it was punny.. ImaginAsian. lol The film was sweet and funny, better than I expected.
The film is based on Saori Oguri's manga Darling wa Gaikokujin about her life with writer Tony László. (Tony was credited for doing the subtitles for the film.)

DMC in NYC
I attended the NYC premiere of the Live-Action version of "Detroit Metal City" Thursday August 20th. You never know how an adaptation of a manga/anime will translate to a film, but this campy version of DMC was really funny. The theater was bursting out in laughter through out. They managed to work in most of my favorite bits from the anime into the movie, including his trip home to his parents. (that always kills me when Krauser is "summoned" from hell to speak to his brother.) However, the only major complaint was there was No Capitalist Pig! Everyone's favorite little masochist was no where to be found. :(

Happy Flight
Earlier today I went to the NY premiere of the Japanese comedy film Happy Flight. It was a cute film and all the premiere staff were dressed as flight attendants and the tickets where made to look like boarding passes. After the showing they had a little Q & A with the Director Shinobu Yaguchi, and the Lead Actor and Actress; Seiichi Tanabe (Honey & Clover - film version) and Haruka Ayase.
