Fast paced; development sprints, time-skips. Psychological motivations but still no depth. Abrupt flow in the beginning; unexpected change of scenes. Battle scenes sometimes puzzling; takes a while to understand what you're seeing. Family, and loved ones, are central. Original and quality art. Liked the character design.

The greedy samurai lord Daigo Kagemitsu's land is dying, and he would do anything for power, even renounce Buddha and make a pact with demons. His prayers are answered by 12 demons who grant him the power he desires by aiding his prefecture's growth, but at a price. When Kagemitsu's first son is born, the boy has no limbs, no nose, no eyes, no ears, nor even skin—yet still, he lives.

Like the mindset of "keep going until the end"; giving up midway is pointless even if the odds are against you. Characters show besides growth in skill, also growth in personality. Slower paced compared to other sports anime; though more time to get to know the cast (incl. other teams).

Amazing art; 3D-ish without compromising the original anime art style, in contrast to almost every CGI. Animation has hints of realism; blurry eye-sights, depth in scenes, real-looking wood, etcetera. Main characters feel natural and not try-hard epic.
