Tbh, it's still early so I think there's room for Inori to grow and develop her skills. Every journey begins with the first steps so she has plenty of time.

I also do think it's interesting they're introducing more characters like Ryouka. It seems this show gives us an insight on her social skills. Ryouka seems like airhead though. Lowkey, this episode was hilarious.

Now from here is where I start to worry production wise because every episode from here to episode nine is outsourced. Though.. it doesn't look that much different from the previous episodes, so for now, I think we're good.

That out of the way though, at least some people in this show are mature... mind you, the mature ones are also FUCKING CHILDERN like Inori. Yep, the children are more mature than the adults from last episode. Actually embarrassing. Not more embarrassing than the performance Inori put up on the rink though xD

But EVENN more embarrassing was little cat girl bumping into Inori lmao. At least Inori got some cake and a friend out of it.... that friend was short lived though. Cat girl is a rebel, so ofc she'd want to turn Inori into one as well. But she ain't having all that, and goes CRAZY in training, to do that "strawberry double" thing.

And when all hope looks lost, all it takes is a lost dog (that got safely returned thankfully lmao) for Tsukasa to be the goat trainer he is, and help Inori pull it off!

Majestic Tsukasa is majestic.

They planned to put in a strawberry if time allowed but managed to fit in a ...strawberry with extra cream(?) into the taiyaki instead (or whatever works as a better metaphor for the last minute advanced spinning dog tech)

inori's just starting so she's got time to improve her skills nice she's not rushing things which is good

they brought in more characters like ryouka who seems a bit ditzy lol she's got a unique personality though which adds a new dynamic to the show

the episodes are changing hands in production but it's not too noticeable so far phew hopefully they maintain the quality

it's kinda embarrassing seeing adults act less mature than kids wtf it's like they need to grow up a bit

inori's putting in a lot of effort and it's paying off sweet she's gonna ace that competition

This episode reminds me that music is the big part of ice dance, the first music seems like a safe choice, going for classical route, but I hope I'll hear a more popular song from now on, let's take advantage of how anime is the combination of visual and audio!!!

Yea this is AOTS.

Inori’s faces when she gets disappointed or overwhelmed are so fucking funny I love her sm. I love how her coach constantly tries to reassure her and give her confidence. He’s literally the ideal coach for a young girl. It’s also so cool that this show gives us an MC who has raw talent but behind on a lot of the fundamentals so that seeing her grow and ultimately reach that level where Hikaru is will feel that much sweeter.

Again wouldn’t be a sports anime if rivals weren’t popping up everywhere for Inori. Mike’s a great addition to the cast and adds some fire. I think there’s a very big healthy middle ground between her absolute disdain for adults and being told what to do and where Inori currently is in not being able to make her own choices.

Like clearly both of them have some trauma that has pushed them to these extremes and hopefully they’ll be able to grow and see you don’t have to be on the extremes. Inori already seems to be getting better at making her own choices like picking which program she wants to focus on for prelims. Tsukasa again being a great coach and giving her encouragement to be her own person.

I love the idea of inori just going with the stuff she’s good at for the prelim and building on that rather than reinventing the wheel. Ultimately execution matters more than just throwing in tricks for the sake of it. Go for it Inori we’re all rooting for you.

Inori getting anxious and forgetting the choreography makes her level of hability feel more credible, it really shows her lack of self-esteem even though she wants to be the best.

It's incredible how the choreography they did actually made me feel excited and wanting to see her succed.

Another week down, another week ENGI has refrained from screwing this up. Loved the episode yet again and excited to see Inori in the upcoming competition. Also, I was so happy to see Inori pull away from the little trouble-maker girl. It is nice to see Inori make friends, but she is still playing catch up to everyone else. No time for a rebellious phase, lol.

Wow, this anime is so far so good! It doesn't lose any momentum or quality of storytelling. The characters are not sugar-coated and quite vivid. So far, "Medalist" is unrivaled. Lol, I never thought a story about figure skating with a little girl as the MC could hook me so much. I guess good storytelling can do wonders.

So far this might be my favorite anime of the season. I really liked this episode and the whole symbolizing of strawberry taiyaki vs shortcake and choosing between her coach and her new friend.. I do think the OP is foreshadowing that eventually Inori will learn to let go and be more independent (when she lets go of the drawstrings).

Loved how Inori pulls up her jacket over her face in embarrassment.

Great advice and mentorship from Tsukasa. To help kids make decisions on their own and learn how to motivate themselves, and to assure and support them with their decisions.

I know I'm going to sound like a broken looping record player, but Inori is just so adorable! Her emotions do go up and down like a yo-yo, but she always does her best to learn new techniques to give her a better chance to win this upcoming competition.

With that said, she now has a new rival to content with, Ryouka. She's almost like a feral kitten with how she acts, thinking that the adults will hold back her potential and she was not pleased when Inori didn't share the same opinion as her. It does show that people learn things differently from one another, where one can learn things in one way more successfully than other and vice versa. I can respect Ryouka for wanting to do things her own way, but I do see her having a reality check soon enough where that one way of thinking will have its own limitations that she won't be able to overcome until she opens her eyes to other ways of learning.

That's all the more reason why I want to see Inori win this competition and I do applaud Tsukasa for going out of his way to finding any route possible to making that goal come true. He's proving to be an excellent coach so far, so here's hoping that his and Inori's efforts will be rewarded in the upcoming competition in the next episode. =)

@IzanaSolos animation quality has been pretty consistent so far. Which doesn't mean this is the best Medalist could offer, but it's not getting noticeably worse either, at least.
Only worry i have are more secondary scenes getting cut from the manga. I'll have to go back and check, but aside from Tsukasa's backstory and personal life being kinda brushed away early on, i got the impression the pacing of this episode was a little faster than the manga, so i'll check just to be sure.

That said, another pretty good episode.
I'm not too disappointed so far.
I think this was probably the first episode where we saw Tsukasa's resourceful nature.
Mike was just as fun as i remembered her and i think Nacchi's design had a nice glowup in color

I got a lot of Aqua vibes from sensei, considering all his machinations to ensure success for whoever he's trying to help. I like the respect for fundamentals. I would have picked that put into Inori's position, however I simply wouldn't care about winning, rather than picking up strong fundamentals as a primary motivation.

I think Medalist OP sounds similar to Oshi no Ko s2.
Anyhow, let's hope Aqua-kun won't use Inori in his machinations towards murdering his father, who prevented him from taking up skating at a much younger age...

Tsukasa in "figure skating" mode makes me feel things. He sure was channeling his inner Eros right there.
Also gotta love his way of using dishes to explain choreographies so a kid like Inori could understand them better. What a great instructor.

Overall, another great episode though I gotta say pacing felt kinda weird with Miketarou's sudden introduction and quick rivalry with Inori.

Psychological abuse between coaches and athletes, kids trying to learn adult routines too early, and a general obsession with glasses and difficult moves...is this an anime about Japanese figure skating, or Russian, lmao? Also, is it just me, or do the midle school kids in this anime behave like high school students with the peak of teenage problems?

@Nachtwandler_21

@perseii Yeah, I especially liked the message that development as an athlete is a big series of choices whether you can do something or not. Even if choosing no would mean a blow to your career. At the beginning I was worried that they would make Inori a generic genius and it would negate the whole idea of her starting too late, but they fixed that later.
