THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
A daily reminder how serious Endeavor does his job. I see that Deku observed him carefully in their internship.

Got to see more of Todoroki and his family....including the past trauma that his mother suffered. Honestly, I'm not a fan of this episode's pacing but I guess it was necessarily to show the type of character Endeavor was in the past.

Pretty boring episode...

I mean, half of it has been flashbacks that we've already seen 2 or 3 times .-.
And the other half are Shoto's family problems, which honestly, I'm not particularly interested in...

Well at least Endervoir is trying, and Midoriya's words are sure gonna influence Shoto c:

The boys are immediately learning what makes Endeavor the No. 1 Hero when he's already there before something happens. That's what means to be the No. 1 Hero. Then, we saw Endeavor remembering the past things that he did to his family and repenting on them. Things he could've done as a father.

The boys still couldn't defeat Endeavor today but they got to go to Endeavor's place for dinner. Bakugo and Midoriya immediately caught up to the awkwardness between Natsu and Endeavor. He's trying to change and that's all that matters. It was a fine episode, overall.

It's back to manga content, and some padding for the events happening 2 episodes back.

The hellish family of Todoroki's, even Endeavor himself has flashbacks that he regrets not protecting' his own family, but subjecting them to the fiery torture session. For his inner monologue to last the entire 1st half of the episode, this is padding already done worse that's to make up for "lost" time.

Back to Todoroki, Izuku and Bakugo, and the training arc continues with the father figure leading the trio forward...and inviting them back home for dinner wiith the formal re-introduction. Izuku and Bakugo certainly having heard about Todoroki's family situation, and now getting the raw taste for the atmosphere for real.

A solemn episode that continues the rabbit hole deep within. Just...pick up the pace.

I feel like there’s a balance between set up and climax, and personally I’m not feeling this season has a good balance of things. We’re still in set up phase 17 episodes in - 16 without filler - and it doesn’t have that pacing that I can to expect from MHA. Don’t get me wrong the set up is much better this half than the first four, but it’s getting tiresome waiting for something to happen, if they started off with this cour or blasted through the class a bs class b arc, I might have not been this tired of it lol.

Episode on the whole was framing endeavours character more, and I quite enjoyed that. The amount of death flags for endeavour this episode was crazy, or was it just me who saw them? The idea of his family eating together without him etc may just be the idea that he ruined the family, but imo the foreshadowing is pouting to endeavour being changed forever and not in a good way. Even as a fairly obnoxious and overbearing person, endeavour undeniably is a great hero, from how he helped out people to the speed at which he arrived on scene.

Deku nearly switched the show into food wars with his PG analysis of the mapo tofu lmao, and Bakugos crass nature helped break things apart. The endeavour family does need healing for sure , and it’s not something they’ll overcome without major changes.

Maybe what Endeavor's family need is to adopt Midoriya and Bakugo into this family, they bring a new positive energy to the house! And Bakugo is such a perfect icebreaker LOL

Pacing was okay, nice that wee se a little more about shoto family tragedy.

What's the ratio of enjoyable: non-enjoyable episodes of season 5 so far? 9:1? The MLA isn't enough to fix this.

My flashback academia. Endeavor agency probably could have been finished this episode but half the episode was flashbacks. Another week of waiting for mva.
Just realized that this episode literally covered one chapter with how padded it was, honestly what the fuck is happening.

A reflective episode bringing back all the turmoil of the Todoroki family. Endeavor having that same dream every time he sleeps of a happy family, just without him. Its a complicated topic to navigate for a shonen series but MHA does it well. Endeavor knows he screwed up with his family in the past and wants to atone somehow. Not really knowing how, maybe through the means he's going about now of establishing better relationships with his kids. Trying to be a better man now instead of horrible like before. Ostracized his other kids after Shoto was born since he finally had endeavor power without any caveats. Natsu definitely still holds those memories of the past in the front of his mind. Fuyumi trying to just mend their broken family, even agreeing with Natsu sometimes but with them this close to repairing things she doesn't want it to slip away. Deku is right when he says to Shoto that he's warming up to the idea of forgiving endeavor. Its Shoto way of getting ready to forgive his father. Its not easy but Shoto knows how even little things, like whay Deku said to him at the sports festival, can change people. Shoto sees some kind of change in Endeavour.

Seeing that Todoroki family situation is my favorite part of BNHA, I really loved this episode.

Fuyumi is a sweetheart. The three siblings each are different examples of coping and stages of forgiveness. Fuyumi wants to move on and bring everyone together as a family again, Natsuo is still in the angry and bitter stage, and Shoto is in the waiting period. He acknowledges the good hero work Endeavor has done, but is waiting to see if his father can be a better man.

And of course, Bakugo has no decorum though to be fair, sensitive topics aren't fitting for when guests are over lol.

It's 6AM but now I want some mapo tofu T.T

Man what a big load of nothing, I went to the preview after skipping to the halfway point to see if mva would start, but NOPE, they're still at that damn dinner table. So, at the MAXIMUM, we have 7 episodes for mva, but I'm betting on six, because the last episode might be the first couple chapters of the paranormal liberation war arc. What was Bones thinking with all these useless flashbacks? We could have had the rest of the EA arc this episode done in no time flat, and then we get better pacing for mva, but sadly, nope. Such a disappointment

Hopefully they stop making movies and focus the production only on Season 6 because it’s going to be a massive arc and if they screw it up it’s going to be a massive disappointment.

Here is the chapter of the episode that @winshenv was referring to. Toya always had white hair. The anime changed it to red and Horikoshi had to fix that by giving him specs of red in his hair like Fuyumi in a recent chapter. It didn't exist before.

Notably, the anime also neglected the specs of red in Natsuo's hair as well.

You don’t think that Horikoshi could’ve told the animators to change it to red? It’s a pretty idiotic move to just change the hair color of someone on a whim, wouldn’t you think? Season 2 was announced and soon to animate when the manga was at the mini Dorm tour arc, and Horikoshi’s vision of here he wanted to go with it could’ve changed in that time. You’re just assuming it was an art mistake (unless you have a source that backs it up as one which FYI the mistake can always be changed in the Blu-Rays) and not also intentionally done so by the author himself.

Ah......mad flashbacks in this episode bro holy shit. I get that they wanted to focus this whole episode on the Todoroki family drama, but realistically they could have done that in the first half, then finish the remainder of the arc (aka what we're gonna see in the next episode) in the second half of the episode. And if they really really HAD to use a whole episode for this, then this is what we should have gotten last week instead of a wasted episode for movie tie-in filler, then this episode could have finished the arc. So this arc will finish next episode, and it looks like we're gonna have 7 episodes for MVA. It's been a while since I read MVA (been meaning to go back and reread it), but I have a bad feeling in my gut that 7 episodes won't do it justice.

It's obviously a mistake because it's white in the manga, not red. You're the one assuming things here. Assuming Horikoshi who has no control over the anime can just call up the director and tell him what to do. Why then didn't he also tell them that Natsuo's supposed to have red in his hair too?
