Just read your review of Oreimo, and I couldn't agree more!
Your 171 page analysis was spot on, one of the greatest reviews on MAL I've ever seen, the entire tangent about incest really spoke to me and my soul.
Honestly your review has completely changed the way I look at anime and life in general, your review has changed me as a person and I really want to thank you for that.
Page 46 really hit hard with how deep you go into the psychological side of things, like how did you manage to schedule an interview with the author? that's insane!
It really helped shine a light on how much foresight and planning was used to develop such an integral story with ton's of cryptic messages and meanings spread throughout, and made me really interested in the author as a person. Page 50 where you live out the authors day to day to prepare your mental state so you can think like the author is crazy, I never would've thought of doing something like that!
You one up it by writing a 100 stories about imouto's (which I've fully read through every single one you've linked. They are such masterclasses in the medium and genre they target, my favourite being "I reincarnated as my little sister's big brother", it's such a fun and delightful read I can't recommend it enough) to train your writing style, and getting into the mind of an author that writes stories relating to imouto's. The then final 20 hour watch-through of Oreimo with the author giving directorial notes linked in on page 57 really does it for me.
Going back to the childhood of the author and eating with him at his childhood home is a such a bittersweet moment that could only be captured by such a brilliant mind as yours. Not even counting the countless documents you translate from Japanese using your N0 knowledge is wild, the amount of work, sweat and tears you put into this is truly mad.
I won't even spoil pages 98 and up too much, but least to say it was beautiful, your writing style changes into enchanting words, and I don't think I've ever seen such a beautiful light novel essay integrated into a review. The 7 hour long video essay is sprinkled with such memorable moments, like when you go on a tangent about your journey into Oreimo and when you first discovered it. All the old stories you tell about your friends bonding over such a gem must be the most elaborate and cinematic piece of media this generation has ever seen. All being shot on a Japanese Nintendo 3DS adds such texture to the image, the crispy audio accentuates the pangs of guilt and nostalgia of these moments.
Interweaving all these different parts of the fandom, and similar anime about incest and imouto's completes the trifecta on this video. Didn't know the fandom went so deep, and how you've managed to interview and befriend every single one of them, it's such a mystery to me. Going as far as to read every single twitter post by every single one to create a spreadsheet on behaviour after watching Oreimo is maniacally intense for researching a topic.
Your passion stretching so far as for you learn robotics to create a robotic doll to imitate imouto behaviour, using a machine learning algorithm trained on said twitter users is such a psychotic idea and I love it.
I can't begin to believe how realistic it looks after being trained, and then you make it watch Oreimo with you for even deeper insight!? It's such a clever way of getting a different angle on a piece of media that I've never seen executed to such a degree.
They say there are always people above you, but I don't think anyone can top your knowledge and deep love for Oreimo; Just thinking about it makes me cry.
Watching your 40 hour playthroughs of all the Oreimo visual novels straight after is such a treat to behold, as you list off such enticing facts and alluring knowledge you've collected over the years planning out this review (like it being the first vn to feature live2D animation), cooking it in your brain, is wonderful to behold.
The gameplay breakdown and the intertwining of your stories really adds such a quality to the video that I can't begin to explain. I can no longer play any other visual novel now because of how charming your playthrough and commentary was during the Oreimo visual novel's portion. They all lack the feeling that you helped shine with your guiding light, they all feel so hollow compared to Oreimo on the PSP.
Everything feels hollow and pales in comparison to such a perfect review, my life is hollow.
I can't believe that this review hasn't gone down in history yet, this magnum opus of mankind.
Your Oreimo review has changed me: and it will change the world; thank you birthing this masterpiece into the world.
I can't wait to witness your next one.
