I grew up with dubs and was very much 'dub-only' until 2020 when the pandemic began. Nowadays, my preference tends to lean somewhat more towards sub. While I doubt I'd become an sub elitist, the Japanese acting often has a 'je ne sais quoi' that is lacking in English. I'll still watch dubs if they're highly acclaimed, an ongoing series I've been watching in English, or if the cast is made up of Cruchyroll, Bang Zoom or Sentai's more veteran and experienced VAs. But when they're full of novice VAs who I've never heard of, then it's a hard pass.
Everything on my list was viewed in the English dub, unless
<ENGLISH SUB> is noted beside the entry.
Anything viewed in both Japanese
and English has the
tag and the score differences (if any) noted.
The first anime titles I remember watching were the re-scripted American adaptation of Samurai Pizza Cats and the DiC dub of Sailor Moon; circa 1991/1992 and 1994/1995 respectively. I could be off by a year or so, my memories of being primary school-aged are a bit hazy. I got back into anime again in 1999 with Pokemon and DBZ, which I would watch after school with my brother. The rest is history...
My all-time favourite anime is JJBA. Araki is a genius; I cannot begin to fathom the brilliance of his mind. To this day, no other anime or manga series has had such a profound impact on me. Nothing has managed to top it, either. HxH (2011)
does come pretty close, though.
My favourite genres are: Drama, Comedy, Action, Adventure, Romance, Supernatural, Fantasy, Psychological Thriller, Horror/Gore, Mystery,
Sci-Fi, Slice of Life and Sports. Also
love BL, though I have high standards about what makes a 'good' BL. Consent is important!
Genres I'm meh about: Harem, Shoujo Ai, Mecha, Ecchi (unless it has a decent story line) and Isekai (save for a select few).
Fanservice is something I'm generally indifferent towards, unless it's the gratuitous in-your-face type... then it's a big fat hell no.
My mean score is probably a little on the high side compared to the site average, but that's because I rate almost solely on enjoyment.
Also... I ramble a lot, so if you're checking out my list (on desktop), it's riddled with my thoughts, complaints, hot takes and spoilers.
Feel free to send me a FR, I accept all requests. ( ・ω・)ノ
