I'd for sure like to watch more Studio Ghibli! This coming weekend, which one do you recommended I watch next? My Neighbor Totoro?
Yep, The anime to FLCL is short. You could binge it in three hours or so! The animation is crazy legendary, a lot of production choices led it to stand out in the industry. Be on the look out while watching, in the show's total nonsensical fun lies themes of puberty and coming of age.
You dropped it on the first volume!? I got hooked on it! I loved Asano's aesthetic choices in making punpun a bird, I'm sure the humor wasn't incredible but it's pretty funny wouldn't you agree?
A friend of mine just finished reading Goodnight Punpun today actually. XD Here's what Blackmask100 had to say about it:

>[On another note, I just finished Goodnight Punpun. And......um......wow. I'm kinda lost for words here. I can definitely see why it hasn't gotten an anime adaptation yet because I don't think it's possible for it to reach the same level as the manga, unless if they hire the best people in the industry. This story needs to be done like how Madhouse did Monster where it's not a separate 12 or 24 episode per season and just finishes the whole thing. Plus, the artwork is on a whole other level.
Ah, gotcha! Definitely don’t force yourself to read something you don’t wanna. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Porco Rosso is actually my first Studio Ghibli watch. I’ve seen Spirited Away, but that was before I started logging stuff on MAL.
Yeah, I think we did. XD Again, I’d watch FLCL before reading. I’m sure A Girl on the Shore is great, I plan to read it this year. I’ve heard it’s one of Asano’s more erotic work. He’s an awesome author. I’m not sure if I‘ve previously asked but have you read his other titles? Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction and Goodnight Punpun are AWESOME.
Yessssss! I love it. The animation can be a bit silly sometimes but I think it conveys the emotionally impactful moments from the manga really well. I’m obsessed with the part when he makes the second painting for the GeiDai entrance exam, it’s so amazing and the piece looks perfect. The opening is also sooooo fire!
On Saturday, I watched Porco Rosso, and read its short manga predecessor after watching it. I rated them both a 10 as well as everything else I log on MAL because it's too much of a hassle to think about rating anything.
if you're unfamiliar with the Studio Ghibli film, Porco (the MC) has a case of survivors guilt, due to him being the only seaplane pilot to have survived a plane fight him and his air-force friends were in. It literally turned him into a pig, and the film does a nice job exploring his character.
Anyway, the manga was 15 pages, I liked that it was water-colored.
Back to the film- I liked the introspective aspects of it, as well as the dialogue between characters.
>...How are you ever going to break that stupid curse on you, Marco? Face it, I'm a pig.
>Farewell to days of fun and freedom in the Adriatic. What is that, Shakespeare? No, it's Porco.
I'm well myself, any progression on watching Magi?
Yesterday, I put on a nice little hour film called Angel's Egg. It's one of those kinds of nonsensical media, I liked it a lot. I don't have to analyze anything because the movie is up for interpretation, the director couldn't even tell you what it meant lol. I like things like that. I've got a bigger appeal now towards anime movies, I'll watch more sometime.
Also looking into Maruo Suehiro's work a bit in between. I've finished a short story collection, as well as a one chap by him. [DDT] [The Dancing Dwarf]
Akira, I actually watched the movie twice before reading the manga, they're both so good in their own way, but the movie deviated a little from the original continuation of the storyline.
Franz Kafka's A Country Doctor, super interesting 20 minute watch, based on Kafka's short story. You don't have to read it to understand, I just liked it because it was animated in the coolest way ever, it has very deep meaning I can't understand, I'll leave it to the great anime analyzers.
I'd like to watch NGE this summer, I liked the manga a heck of a lot.
If I ever want to watch anything, I'll probably refer to this Interest stack.
You’re very welcome! I hope you enjoy them if you ever decide to read them.
I’m not sure if I’ve already mentioned or not, but I rarely watch anime. My only exception is if a manga really resonates with me, I would go and watch the anime.
Short anime and little movies appeal to me much more.
But I hope you’re enjoying this anime season. Have you made any additional progress on Magi past episode 5?
I don't want to nitpick, XD but seinen and shounen are demographics, not genres. They're aimed at different audiences, seinen for young men 18-40 and shounen for adolescent boys 9-18. Funny enough, there's a vague line between seinen and shounen, some seinen like Parasyte have battles that would appeal to younger audiences, mc has big superpower and finds a clever way to defeat the adversary everytime. Some shounen, or shoujo in the example I'm about to provide, have more adult themes, like for instance, Nana. There's cigarettes and (correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't read it) sexual elements in the manga.
Josei and Shōjo are the female counterparts of course of those two audiences. You may have already known all that but the reason why I'm saying this is because it's hard to rec a manga from a whole demographic because it's so vast in different genres. But I can recommend seinen I think you'd like.

I also hope there’s a season two, but I lowkey should just read the manga lmao, I like the style of the manga much better
I don’t think I’ve heard of it, but I’ll check it out! What do you like about it?

Hahaha, what’s unsatisfactory for you in Magi?

I'm more than halfway done reading Blade of the Immortal. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Also looking into Maruo Suehiro's work a bit in between. I've finished a short story collection, as well as a one chap by him. [DDT] [The Dancing Dwarf]
It's not that really that I deem these anime that I watched "worthy" or anything. XD I bet there's a lot of stuff that's really good to watch.
I just don't. But there is some great stuff manga is missing, the most important being sound and color, which can really make or break anything.
Kenpuu Denki Berserk, was awesome to watch after catching up to the manga.
Serial Experiments Lain, didn't have a manga adaptation so I watched it. I liked it.
Akira, I actually watched the movie twice before reading the manga, they're both so good in their own way, but the movie deviated a little from the original continuation of the storyline.

Good on you for getting to ep 14!

The Flowers of Evil
Akira
All You Need Is Kill
and finally, Parasyte, even though I kinda threw some punches at it previously. (Still worth reading)
If I were you, I would read the synopsis on the mal page of any of those recs that interest you.
They would do heck of a better job at enticing you to read them than I can. XD
As for openings, I like Berserk’s and Serial Experiment Lain’s. Both great, put your grasses on!! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
And the song Duvet of course used in the latter.
The general tracks I like, as I’ve mentioned before are Behelit and Guts’s theme.
