This shit has potential to be huge in the west if it was handled right. I'm watching the DVDrip by Hokuto no Gun and the image quality is spectacular. Who would've thought Hokuto no Ken would've caught on as late in the west as it has? I feel like 70s, 80s, 90s anime is going to make a big comeback globally soon.
ep 109 for Kinniku? fuck that's perfect. I'm sitting around ep 75 so that gives me a decent enough chunk to catch up on. I hope I can find high quality scans of the manga to fill in the rest before hopping into SFTT. Lemme know when you intend to start watching it, it'd be cool to watch it at the same time.
If you are in the mood for something different, give Urusei Yatsura (2022) a try. I know I was talking mad shit on newer anime in my last comment, but this one is really something. It's by David Production so of course it's gorgeous and fluid but the backgrounds especially the greenery is some of the most realistic and comfy I've seen. The show itself is a sex joke heavy rom-com by the same mangaka who authored Ranma 1/2. I know I also said I don't like ecchi but fuck Ranma has some good tits. Lots of people are trashing it saying "nobody asked for this series to be remade, ect ect" but I see it as a remake we didn't ask for and frankly don't deserve. The original anime is good but horribly dated and has terrible sound quality. This is one of the rare occasions I'll say the remake is better, and that's just based on 5 eps. Anyway sorry if this reads like a ramble, I just smoked a big boy stinky cigarette and I've got a lot to say
dogfighter might just be the best episode of televison I've ever seen. Ramenman full on flying kicks a fuckin dog.
The first 100 eps of one piece are as golden to me as dbz, yu yu hakusho, ect. I really am not a huge fan of the series after that.
Fuck dude thats awesome to get RT'd by the man himself.
Yeah so with Chainsaw man... I was trying to give something that came out in the last decade a shot.. it turns out I really am an old school guy when it comes to anime. I just can't stand the art style, and the newer character models feel fake. Also not a huge fan of ecchi, I dropped Bastard for the same reason.
lmao what? the guy sounds like a mentally ill pervert. I'm going to lower my rating to a 3 now just because
Also any info about the rest of the OG kinnikuman getting subbed? I'm dying to dive back in.

Tell me about the novel you're working on, it's an interesting subject.
Pleased to meet you.
Oh, I still have to watch Kinnikuman. I watched few episodes but don't remember it quite well...
Just watched first ep of Ramenman. Strong first ep, very excited to binge the series. The art is fucking beautiful. It gives off alternate universe goofy Hokuto no Ken vibes.
Yeah so I had the DVDs growing up and the menu had the theme song looping... It will forever be stuck in my head. Keep in mind there is a fairly well done dub of the first half of the series, I think ADV handled it. GaoGaiGar is easily my favorite "super robot" style mecha show. Easy to relax with a few episodes before bed, just fun mindless stuff with great battles and animation.
I agree with you on Votoms 100%. Filthy is the best way to describe the overall look of the anime, I don't know if it's because of the lack of preservation or what, but I feel like I need a shower after watching. So many people brag about it being one of the best classic series of all time up there with OG Gundam... I just don't see it.
Oh man War in the Pocket is excellent. Try out 08th MS Team or Stardust Memory for quality animation. 08th MS Team might honestly be overall the best the franchise has to offer, period.
I've seen more 80s gore fest OVAs than I care to recount. Violence Jack and Vampire Wars have to be my top two favorites. I watched a decent amount of One Piece, but fuck I can't watch it any more. Too many episodes and the pace they adapt the manga at is staggeringly slow. What could take me 2-3 hours to read is adapted to 20+ hours of animation... no thanks. My main gripe with One Piece is that the world is downright too big... Too many characters, too much going on all at once, I don't like it. I particularly dislike how they break every situation up into 5 parts by separating all the characters and switching between them narratively. Not a huge fan of Oda's comedy or character designs either. I will say I highly enjoyed the first 250ish episodes, especially the first 100, pure gold. The series is just too long and silly, with way too much going on.
That's great to know about Kinniku. I got caught up hard in that series, but I had to put it down for a bit. I got burned out from watching so many episodes back to back and knowing it isn't fully translated discouraged me. I left off at the part where he is fighting this rainbow guy, pretty trippy stuff. I'm still amazed it never caught on big in the states, wrestling was so popular back in 80s/90s. Maybe I'll watch a random Kinniku movie to get myself back in the silly mood.
I know you didn't ask, but I just have to bitch about ZZ Gundam. Holy fuck. The first 16ish episodes are full of pointless, downright unfunny comedy and damn near skippable after ep 4 once you get to know the characters. Captain Bright is made a fool of and barely even the same character from 0079 and Zeta. I know it's well known as the worst of the UC Timeline, but after watching Victory (another stinker) I didn't think it could get much worse. I'm finally to the "good part" and it's lackluster at best, even compared to the beginning of the show. I'm a completionist though, and after ZZ all I have is Unicorn, which I've seen part of and is very good. I really wish that pre-90s mecha had better production values in general, there are a lot of series I'd like to enjoy (Votoms, Aura Battler Dunbine, Space Runnaway Ideon) that I just can't stomach the animation (or lack of). Votoms is the worst IMO, great story and mecha desgins, great animation... worst character designs of all time. Anyway if you want a fun, easy watching mecha with old school animation I'd rec you GaoGaiGar. It's a little saturday-morning-cartoonish but the theme song is hype and the GAR emotion is there
Do you have discord?
SO thoughts on Movie 1 - I was hella impressed by the up in production value and enjoyed the theatrical aspect ratio. As far as story goes, fairly run of the mill. It reminded me of the early DBZ movies. It would be very interesting to see if there is a dub of this from way back in the day, but I highly doubt it received any airtime on english-speaking TV. I gave it a 7/10, easy watch, it breezed by. You really can't do a ton story wise in a 50 minutes, but I was entertained.
hell man, I would be interested in fan-dubbing Kinniku if I could find enough people interested
