The value of an art form rests in its ability to resonate with its viewers- to evoke strong emotions and build fulfilling connections. The greatest works not only elicit joy, but also deliver a range of impactful emotions including sadness, loss, hope, and affection. A true masterpiece stirs the mind and soul.
All this being said, I truly watch anime simply because I enjoy it. After long, difficult days, it is nice to come home to a show where I can find a little shelter from the difficulties of everyday life. For just a little while, I too can go on my own adventure. I can be the hero. I can find a little victory with some friends.
My tastes range from science fiction to drama to romance. I enjoy thrillers (but nothing SCARY). I find great joy in love stories with meaningful endings. I fall in love with the characters that struggle and fail, that hurt and suffer on their way to the top. I think those are the ones most deserving of an ending, good or bad.
