Let me say this before beginning. I love Monogatari series.
It has been my favourite anime for a while even without completing iit. But what should be this season.

I started watching monogatari a while back and i used a custom order. It was going pretty good but i lost the hook and put all the series on hope. I have watched some parts of Owarimonogatari and second season. Also watched Kizumonogatari movie trilogy, bakemonogatri, nisemonogatari and nekomonogatri kuro. It maked complete sense but i just wanted to start all over again.

[spoilerl]I am using the relase date order or whatever that is. Until i came to second season, everything maked perfect sense and i could catch greter details but what happened. It feels like i have skipped an entire arc. Senjougahara is not like herself and it gets mentioned as a 4th wall break in the first 3 eps. Why does their hair gone. Why it feels empty and incomplete.[/spoiler]

I know this is a mystery anime but this does not makes sense to me at all.

Is the plot going to be turning out to a messy, hole filled one or just want a clarification it will turn out to be great.

Well everything made sense for me when I watched it. And I did the release order. And usually the arcs are pretty self contained so it’s not necessarily a problem with the watch order. So I guess pay better attention to subtle things in the story.

And no for Senjogahara it’s actually a pretty understandable behavior that after having trust issues until meeting Araragi to act now more openly.

Isn't the first arc of the Second Season - Tsubasa Tiger?

If yes, then it makes complete sense that Senjougahara isn't like her usual self. Because we always see her from Araragi's perspective. Tsubasa Tiger is 100% from Hanekawa's perspective. Senjougahara is not the same when she is with her. But you can still see her general behaviour being the very same.

You see the same thing happen in Nisemonogatari, when Senjou has kidnapped Araragi. Her behavior completely changes when she talks to Hanekawa on the phone.

The plot makes 100% sense if you're following the dates. That itself can get a bit difficult though. I'd recommend maintaining a record of the dates mentioned. If I remember correctly, most of Second Season happens over the course of a week, with a lot of jumbling to increase emotional impact.

So, yeah. The characters will act differently based on who the narrator is. But the story itself is very well plotted and completely comprehensible if you remember the dates and timelines.

I completely forgot about that. NisioIsin is such a talented soul. Thank you for the clarification.

Yup 🙏.

Just have fun from here on out. Every arc is emotionally devastating towards the end. Tsubasa Tiger especially is one of the best arcs of the entire show. The final episode is just writing brilliance.

I'd start and spoil way too much if I talked about the following arcs, so I'll shut up. If you think NisioIsin is so talented, just based on what you've seen, you're going to need to raise your bar, because he's about to break it with this season 🫡.

There’s nothing wrong with watching it in any order imo. To understand the chronological order helps a bit though. Specifically in season two Tsubasa tiger happens later in the time line than the rest of season two. Besides hanamonogatari the movie at the end of season two which is one of the last arcs in chronological order we have animated. The first two arcs, kabuki and onimonogatari (hachikuji and nadeko arc) happen before tsubasa tiger even though it’s shown first. Then hitagi end comes after owari (third season) but also first season of owari comes after the second season in chronological order. But you can watch it in the way it’s presented on Crunchyroll or normal. As long as you think about the intent behind chronological I don’t think it matters too much. Hope this help and not further confuse.
So from nise in order it goes
Mayoi jiangshi, shinobu time, tsubasa tiger, owari season two, owari season 1, nadeko Medusa, hitagi end. With hana way later down the timeline past season 3.

She cut her hair at the end of nisemonogatari when Koyomi tells Tsukihi that he'll introduce her (and Karen) to his girlfriend (Hitagi)

Also, early Hitagi from Bakemonogatari until Nisemonogatari still had that kind of hostile wall around her because of what happened between her mother joining a cult and the whole weight crab ordeal. Her cutting her hair (just like Tsubasa did recently) a while after her latest encounter with Deishuu probably signifies that she's trying to move on and be a better friend and girlfriend.

So yea, she's definitely growing as a person and trying her best to be a good friend to Tsubasa

Also to note, second season is quite a change of pace since our POV switches to the various heroines in the series and not just Koyomi (he still narrates the story from his pov for Mayoi's and Shinobu's story though, mostly because NisiOisiN-sensei didn't think writing a story about a wandering spirit who spends most of her time on the streets would be entertaining and Shinobu's story is a continuation of that)

P.S. My recommendation is the Light Novel release order since Kizumonogatari was delayed repeatedly that they decided to do Nisemonogatari first and Hanamonogatari was similarly delayed. Koyomimonogatari was also released quite novelly through a calendar app and should be watched between Tsukimonogatari and Owarimonogatari

I watched the series with light novel order. But at the end of Owarimonogatari 1st season it became hard for me to adjust them in the right order. Hanamonogatari is part of 2nd light novel. But the incidents are after the event of Owarimonogatari 1st season which is part of final 3rd light novel. Only Tsubasa Tiger happened after Owarimonogatari or the Entire Monogatari 2nd season (anime) happened after Owarimonogatari. If I'm wrong then please correct me.
