Many users review series and animated movies following MAL guidelines and categorizing their rating. Sometimes they fail, because not everything is supposed to be treated as a part of the anime industry: there are also independent works, whose story is not always important, because they last a bunch of minutes, whose art is not always captivating, since they were made back in the 60s or 70s and try to be expressive more than realistic. The same goes for western movies: you can't rate sound, for example, if you're watching a silent film or dislike a black and white movie only because colors are not there.

I don't usually write reviews, but here the task is easy since the show lasts six minutes only.
First thing first: if you want a really good short sci-fi animation, go see Voices of a Distant Star by Makoto Shinkai. A hundred times deeper, a hundred times better. In Shelter, characters are not developed, the setting is poor and nothing really happens; the only thing you will remember are some visually nice backgrounds (still pretty mediocre though). Since character(s) are poor, art is not exceptional, plot is not developed (six minutes is a strong handicap though), forced emotions and catchy design, just like many contemporary series, are ... |
