Another sci-fi story set in a futuristic society. Students aboard a ship end up having to assume control of it, and although there are some different spins on it, there are staggering amounts of similarities. I think if you enjoy one you'll enjoy the other. Because it is a longer series than Starship Operators they take the time to deal with the nitty gritty like food and water problems and other aspects of life that would be difficult to organize on your own with a bunch of amateurs.

Both series have a group of students trapped in a massive international conflict as leading roles. However, they don't manage well with relations between characters. - Starship Operators is more focused in warship battles full of tactical manoeuvres. - Kakumeiki Valvrave has mecha action, but it's a generical Sunrise anime full of nonsensical situations and plot twists.

They are both space animes, which a similar artwork, but Starship Operators is a more serious drama, while Planetes has more funny situations. Still you will find them to be very alike.

A single ship battling a whole empire, a lot of great strategic space opera action...

Both shows have a strong focus in intense warship battles and have beautiful girls as main characters (as well as a few males). - Starship Operators uses CGI for battles, while Arpeggio is a full produced CGI anime. You can see a huge technical difference between. - Relationships are well portrayed in Arpeggio. Starship Operators also has interaction between its characters, but it seems a little bit odd.

The mighty and terrifying power of the media, propelling some to fame, power and stardom. While Oshi no ko is a dark take on the world of the entertainment industry, Starship Operators is a sci fi tale with strong parallels to crowd funding. The titular characters are cadets on a starship whose planet is conquered by its powerful neighbor and surrenders immediately. But rather than turn themselves in with their superiors, the crew gets funding from the galactic news network to carry on an insurgency campaign that becomes a popular reality TV show. But having combat live-streamed is not all fun and  read more

Similar in regards to the depiction of space combat being very tactical and with a sense of realism, rather than being for the sake of action scenes. Focus on strategy and overall purpose rather than creating a deep cast.

The war in space, intrigue, politics, loyalty and betrayal.

Both are space animes, and their stories are quite similar - starship with the students on board is forced to fight against superior enemy forces. Also, in both animes protagonist is a serious girl.

Both are Sifi's, both involve careful strategic planning, and both have a similar feel.

An anime with the same genre. This one is about students from a space academy.

Both shows contain "what-if" scenarios about mundane aspects of the real world interacting with a science fiction setting. (with Starship Operators it's reality TV and with Mouretsu Pirates it's insurance fraud). While Starship Operators is more on the political, action-packed side, the director of Mouretsu Pirates also worked on Starship Operators, so it has a similar feel. Both shows also contain a predominantly female cast that isn't used for fanservice. There is also a good amount of tactical planning. SO is "harder" in terms of science fiction mechanics, though.
