Kanojo, Okarishimasu

If there’s one anime character this year that I want to punch, one character that I want to throw off a bridge, or one character that I simply want to say ‘you’re pathetic’ to their face, it would be Kazuya Kinoshita.

Imagine living in your neighborhood and all of a certain, there’s a hot girl living right next door to you. What’s the first thing you’d say to her? For Kazuya, his first conversation with Chizuru Mizuhara doesn’t exactly go his way. He’s far from an alpha male and his social experience is far from his set of skills. In fact, his girlfriend Mami even dumped ... him from the very first episode. Not more than 10 minutes into the show, Kazuya is single again and he got so desperate that he decided to rent a girlfriend. Talk about being pathetic.

You’re probably asking yourself if Kazuya is worth the time watching at all judging from the first few minutes of the very first episode. If you want to save the time, do yourself a favor and drop the anime altogether. If you’re a curious animal, then Kanojo, Okarishimasu will offer the type of guilty pleasure experience of following the life of Kazuya. It doesn’t take a genius to see that he is a thirsty guy. Even his friends falls into this category with their daydream fantasies. Unfortunately, Kazuya is the biggest culprit of being a pervert. It seems the show can’t go on without a single episode of him dreaming up some perverted fantasy, whether it’s between him or other individuals with some pretty girl. Oh and Kazuya represents the insecurity of a manchild. I could say this more than once because throughout the show, he suffers from a deep inferiority complex. When comparing himself to the girls, they seem way out of his league. He is so insecure that he had to resort to blackmail to impress his friends and grandmother.

Now, watching Mizuhara is a different story. She’s the complete opposite of Kazuya, or at least on the surface. Representing the perfect female role model, she’s beautiful, intelligent, and polite with great manners. But that’s just the tip of iceberg. Deep down, Mizuhara is shown to be a short tempered girl who seems to also be insecure about her own life. I’m not going to lie, seeing Mizuhara’s 180 degree personality change is satisfying. The words she says to Kazuya’s face after her broken façade is exactly what I’d say to him. Their relationship throughout the show is built on lies. It gets to the point where they resort to lying to their families in order to make them happy. In reality, it’s easy to see why since they made their choices. But how long can it go on? Will they take these lies to their graves?

Storytelling also seems to coincide with fate. Kazuya’s meeting with Mizuhara is just one example but later on, he also encounters Ruka, another rental girlfriend. This brings up complicated manners when she decides to be Kazuya’s girlfriend. She even knows the truth about Mizuhara being a fake and it complicates the story altogether. Kazuya himself realizes the hole he dug himself into and has little choice than to comply with Ruka’s wishes. The irony here is that Kazuya himself gets blackmailed after he blackmailed Mizuhara. Kazuya and Chizuru’s relationship also gets more complicated as it takes on a toll for both characters. At first, it’s somewhat easy to feel sympathetic for either of them. But in truth, there should be no pity. They made their choices on their own. No one really forced them to be in a fake relationship. They chose to make their decisions and the consequences of their actions is their own responsibility. That’s some real life drama that can be applied to any relationship. Only here, it just makes both characters look weak and vulnerable.

It’s rather comedic the show is tagged with romance. Of course, the catch is that the romance in this anime is fake built on deception since the first episode. Most characters don’t realize this between Kazuya and Chizuru. Ruka’s entry into the story also adds herself as a rival. Mami, Kazuya’s ex-girlfriend, also shows that she is more manipulative than meets the eye. As such, the series injects many scenes of misunderstandings. Some of these are close calls where Kazuya and Chizuru’s secret almost ends being exposed to public. It’s beyond pathetic to watch some of these scenes although such circumstances naturally fits with this anime’s themes. Still, I do want to admire the show’s integrity to keep up with its main premise. Kazuya and Chizuru represents how two very different individuals manage to come together. They are so different that they’re almost like different species. I’m not going to lie, watching this pair’s strange character chemistry sometimes can be mildly entertaining. And if anything else, Kazuya sometimes makes me laugh unintentionally for just being Kazuya.

Despite the show’s degenerate cast of characters, the artwork style is vibrant with energy. Almost every female character makes the male population turn their heads with their beauty. Mizuhara is the biggest example as she represents the iconic girlfriend, someone who you’d want to show off like a trophy wife. With a slim figure, lavish long hair, and charming smile, Mizuhara serves as the poster girl of the show. Similarly, Mami, Ruka, and Sumi all have their own feminine characteristics that is easily alluring. But if we talk about Kazuya, he just looks like your average guy with his pathetic little smirk and endless fantasies. When applying to the voice acting, I also do applaud Mizuhara’s VA during her personality changes. It’s not always easy to play a character this way but it is convincing. And if we talk about Mami, then she represents the bitch you won’t know what hit you before it’s too late.

If every relationship was built on a lie like Kazuya and Mizuhara, then we would be living in a world of illusions. I hope that’s not the case for you if you’re in a relationship. Fake relationships almost always have its consequences and this anime shows why. Discarding the real life comparisons, this anime itself is one that’s is deceptive to the core. Romance? Forget that because we’re not getting a real storyteller. Every episode makes me despise the main protagonist and he doesn’t get any better. If anything else, this anime taught me not to be like Kazuya.

Prostitution with an extra step.

Rent-a-girlfriend. An app that allows you to rent a girlfriend for a large fee. Mediocre humor with a bunch of thots. Nothing is worse than bad humor with cringe. I'm not sure if I can last all 12 episodes. It's not even good shit.

Story - 1/10
Slightly unique storyline. Obviously not the first time we've seen this. Throwing in more and more girls. Just a big mess. Basically becomes a harem show and it seems like all the girls fall in love with the main character.

Art - 7/10
The art looks really nice. It's well-drawn and well animated. Pretty cute. It ... has a distinct art style.

Sound - 7/10
I don't know about you but I enjoyed the intro. The intro is done by the peggies and I really like them. They have done intros and endings for other animes like Bunny-girl-senpai, Naruto next-gen, and Sarazanmai. The ending song is average.

Characters - 2/10
The number of bitches and thots are scary. None of the characters seem to have any sort of story to them. They throw in characters to 'spice it up'. The main character who all the girls fall in love with has no appealing points. He is just really really awkward. To sum it up it's horribly bland.

Enjoyment - 2/10
As I said before mediocre humor and cringe isn't my thing. Bad comedy is never good unless there are quality tits. I hated it and I will watch this anime with my brain turned off.

Theres 2 types of trashy animes. Trash that's worth watching and Trash that's worth burning. This is trash worth burning to the ash so no one will ever see it. What is this bulls**t? Horrible trash. I enjoy listening to the intro than watching the whole anime. I don't recommend this to anyone.

Kanokari might be the worst show I’ve ever watched. The story is built on a lie that snowballs out of control, told by a beta knucklehead that just couldn't stop boasting, and filled with smooth brains that can’t act like adults. I spent half my time watching these 4 episodes cringing at the male protagonist Kinoshita’s actions and their consequences.

There’s so much to say I don’t even know where to start. Right from the first episode, the idiocy of the protagonist Kinoshita is already on full display. Renting a girlfriend, then proceeding to get angry because of her “acting” is the kind of 10/10 mental ... gymnastics that would leave Olympic gymnasts in awe. Her partner in crime, Ms rental herself Ichinose isn’t great either: following him to his urgent and sudden hospital visit is the last thing she should have done, and the rest is history.

First lying to Kinoshita’s grandmother who we know takes trips to the hospital very frequently, and then to her own grandmother who is coincidentally in the same hospital. I get it, she was put on the spot and had little to no other options but to pretend to be Kinoshita’s girlfriend. But you are lying to people inches away from their deathbed here, wouldn’t you feel at least a bit hesitant to do such a thing? And Ichinose, what about not going with him to the hospital visit in the first place? Alas, the show needed this encounter to essentially “lock in” this idea that Kinoshita and Ichinose are a couple, at least to the characters in the show. This is furthered when they met Kinoshita’s friends and got him boasting about his “real girlfriend”, but I digress. Everything about this show is built on a lie, making the plot feel very forced and hard to swallow.

The nail in the coffin is that everything considered, these events could all be avoided by simply using common sense. If your customer is leaving because of something urgent, then as a rental, don’t bother him and call it a day. If you during a rental date bumped into someone you know, then just play it off as going out with a friend of yours. These terrible misunderstandings that constitute the entire plot of this show rely on the sheer incompetence of Kinoshita, while Ichinose has no choice but to play along. She really carried this series, being the most sensible person present, but nonetheless, she isn’t perfect, and one cute anime girl is not going to cut it for all this mess.

What about the other cast members then? Mami might be the most unlikeable character one has ever created, it’s as if Malty is in the real world instead of in an isekai. She’s manipulative and calculating, yet we see time and time again how Kinoshita reminiscing about their past relationship, which adds to the already long list of reasons for us to hate the protagonist. As for Ruka and Sumi, they only appear later in the story, hence because of spoiler reasons I cannot comment on.

The final thing that I can discuss then, is the exposition in episode four. The author seriously tried his best to get us viewers sympathize with the protagonist, talking about one of his (probably) many silly stories back when he was a child. The problem with that is we never get to see Kinoshita ever do anything that signifies the slightest of intelligence: he literally only thinks with his dick. We hate him for his utter uselessness, indecisiveness and foolishness, not something that could be fixed with some “haha funny” moments, is it? This supposedly heartwarming scene is here only to sway emotions of impressionable audiences, and anyone who with a slightly critical eye would recognise these cheap tricks immediately. For those who want to mention the cliff hanger, rest assured, it won't amount to anything significant.

It is then more than puzzling that they actually got a decent OP, ED, an all-star cast of voice actors (except for the male protagonist, how fitting), not to mention good animation. I normally would praise seasonal shows for actually putting some effort in their animation, and this one is definitely above average. The OP and ED sang by the peggies and halca are both great songs that I would regularly listen to. But somehow the premium treatment given to this abominable plot actually makes me mad more than anything else.

I’ve learnt my lesson that reviewing shows before they end is not a good practice. After all, with 8 episodes yet to air, a show’s quality can vary greatly. But no, I won’t give Kanokari the benefit of the doubt here. Being a source reader who loves self-torturing enough to catch up to the latest chapter, I would not recommend anyone to watch this show; unless you are one of those people who like watching cringe compilations for entertainment, then go for it all you want.

... Many say, that Kazuya reflects people in the real world. Hello B*tch! There isn't anyone like Kazuya in the real world! I am sure the writer is exaggerating. Moreover, Kazuya is a college student. I might be able to understand if Kazuya is still in grade 3 junior or grade 1 high school. Maybe Kanojo, Okarishimasu forgot to include the "SLICE OF SH*T" genre.

Remember that in the MC manga the garbage is not so visible, but after being made Anime then from the first episode have seen garbage that is really rubbish.

Yes, it can be seen in the manga review that Kazuya (MC) barely gets insults like "Garbage MC" .etc

Maybe the creator wants to make a story that is always talked about by people even though what s said is rubbish. And the creator managed to make us always talk about this anime. Especially the main character in this story, truly the BEST MC EVER.

Rental GF is the next entry in my Despair Saga and as usual it has taken a toll on me.
If it wasn’t noticeable by the already highly upvoted influx of negative reviews this series isn’t good by any criteria of requirement.

The romance genre in anime is vast and popular. In recent years however it seems to have become the trend to adapt more “incel” type stories. Yes, I will not beat around the bush here, Rent a GF is an incel anime. This is not to insult anyone who potentially gets enjoyment out of this series by implying they are such, but the main character ... is the splitting image of a self-destructive virgin in denial of their own toxic masculinity that you typically find on reddit. If you have any mercy, a good personality or hope left for humanity, you might go into this show with the potential outlook of character development of the main character, for him to eventually realize his toxic flaws and slowly overcome them to feel worth of a woman’s grace

The show starts out with immediately fishing for sympathy for the main character, Kazuya. After 21 years of his life as a virgin loser his first girlfriend, Mami, dumped him rather ungracefully and now he is in despair. Therefore Kazuya decides to go on a date with one of these “rental girlfriends” – which is an actual service in japan, more or less – to numb the pain a little bit. He does this without actually reading the terms of agreement and using his common sense, which would make him realize that yes this is a professional service and “fake”, he instead decides to go on inner monologues to stroke his terrible self-esteem to even worse proportions and starts shaming himself and the rental girlfriend for doing this. The series sets a certain tone right from the get go with this. Rental GFs are just fakers. It doesn’t outright disrespect the profession and make one or the other social critique on it – which would make the series perhaps better if it had – but instead tortures you with an utterly pathetic display of a main character. Because of dumb anime-circumstances that connect both Chizuru’s and Kazuya’s grandmothers they accidentally present themselves as a couple to them, and therefore Chizuru has to play the actual fake-girlfriend for Kazuya the whole rest of the show. It’s a very typical fanfiction like premise and I promise you the fanfic writers did it better.
To come back to Kazuya’s behaviour towards Chizuru for a moment, he does get put into his place after he goes on several rants in front of her by complaining how fake it all is and other incel nonsense, but the series doesn’t commit to this in the long run. Chizuru scolds him a few times at the start of the series, making valid points all over the place, calling him out on his unprofessional and disrespectful behaviour towards her, but she sadly also is just a victim of the narrative and the narrative demands her to become dumb and meek and eventually fall for him for no reason whatsoever.


Rental gf does nothing exceptional in the romcom category whatsoever. It’s not that funny, the MC is not likeable nor does he grow or redeem himself over the course of the series and the rest of the cast is nothing to write home about either. Kazuya stays a piece of shit and the show lets you know it. He runs around in circles in his inner monologues how he is not deserving of a girl like Chizuru (he isn’t) but it’s so clearly presented as sympathy fishing it actively offended me.

Rent a gf is one of the few shows where sex is an active motivator and characters are “shown” to participate in sexual activities, only in Kazuya’s fantasies though, but it is present. In other series characters doing or wanting to do the deed is generally something I consider a positive, in this show however it feels more like a torture method. Kazuya gets left by his gf at the start of the series and after a while he starts fantasizing on how she might be fucking other dudes by now because he didn’t get to fuck her yet, this makes him jack-off. Yes, we kind of see this dude jacking off. And even when we don’t, most of the time when we get introspective shots into his apartment, tissues just lie around all over the place. The show’s direction actively point your eyes towards this as well. It keeps focusing shots on used tissues and I’ve never felt so grossed out in my damn life. It’s not subtle at all. It’s not even implications. It’s just what happens.

And even though the show is not categorized as an ecchi series, some of the shot compositions reminds me of such. Sometimes shots are flat out pointed towards breasts or ass (typically ass) Legs too. It’s almost always distracting. But I understand that it is shot this way to really show off how hot the girls are which is… depending on the taste of the sight of the beholder.


Chizuru is by far the only decent character in this show. She declines in character writing later too but she is the most bearable and by far the prettiest character. Which the show will remind you of constantly. The girls in this are specifically glossed up at all times. I have to give it to the production team, while the show lacks in various areas, the character art at least in close ups is pretty gorgeous especially the eyes. There was some effort put in there and the character artstyle in general is pretty cute. The coloring is kind of eye-candy as well but there is a certain problem.


The show is ugly. Which sounds contradictory from what I just said but I will explain. It is true that the character designs and art especially the fashion sense (except Kazuya which you might expect) is pretty sleek, well drawn and nice looking but the moment the shots shift away from close ups to more far distance shots it becomes an offense to art. The backgrounds especially have to be among the worst I’ve ever seen in my life. The outlines are so shaky it feels like they commissioned someone with Parkinson's to draw them. The art itself isn’t good. They aren’t well drawn. They don’t fit well with the characters. When there is a wide shot, the characters pop out like paper cut-outs. If your production is actually good, this wouldn’t happen.

But not just that, the moment the characters are in a wide shot their heights and proportions are just fucked. I hardly ever notice height differences feeling off putting, but this show managed to make me notice. The character art also becomes the exact opposite of sleek, well drawn and nice looking. It’s clear to me that the production struggled with these rather taxing and demanding character designs even though the last episode was among the best looking ones, which only other one would really just be episode one. It’s not good.


The OST is also to put it bluntly: Fucking garbage. Except one track which I like to call “the sexy saxophone” one, the OST is more geared towards a video game like sounding one, which is confusing because nothing in this show warrants this type. The tracks are always distracting and loud, overplay scenes and are unintentionally hilarious. A character will scream at another one and a Tetris type beat will start invading your eardrums. How am I supposed to take this seriously? The answer is I don’t.


Rental gf is just full of problematic writing. Mami turns out to be a femcel and talks shit on her private account on twitter behind Kazuya’s back while leading him on here and there for her own self-satisfaction, semi-implying a typical incel “all women are out to betray you” type relationship which kind of gets shafted less than halfway through the show. Which is funny because it is honestly the only interesting subplot this series has to offer.
Chizuru gets roped and black-mailed into a fake relationship-turned professional relationship against her will, gets stalked by the main character for an entire day, even his grandmother tells another rental girlfriend that she has fallen in love with Chizuru. Literally. Not to mention the various times of accidental sexual harassment, like how he flashed a boner because he hid with Chizuru under a blanket in episode 1.

The other later introduced rental girlfriend, Ruka, who is underage by the way, meets Kazuya by all typical-anime-bullshit running into him and flashing her panties. This however makes her heart rate go up and therefore decides that she is now in love with him.
There is a whole backstory montage rushed in an ED explaining how she has a heart condition and it has to be among the dumbest backstories I have seen in all of time.

Besides that, even though Ruka shows clear romantic and sexual interest in Kazuya he continues to ignore her because of his now crush on Chizuru. He does this by gaslighting Ruka consistently, even telling his family that she is a pathological liar (pretty hard accusation) and they just believe him. Even though Kazuya is so pathetic and everybody knows it he gets away with so much crap it would make anyone with common sense rage.


This all wouldn’t be such an issue if there was actual character development of Kazuya. But there just isn’t. If anything, he gets worse over time since he just gets enabled left to right by basically everyone. Chizuru even humors the thought of him just being a sadboy, misunderstood “nice guy” by the end of this season. Even though you know… disrespected her profession, stalked her, sexually harassed her and all that. It hurts to watch.

There is so much crap in this, ranging from a bad production to toxic relationships. It is not a good time. All this show has to say is that no matter how big of a piece of shit you are, if your ideologies and personality are somewhere in the “nice” area, you pass.
Spare yourself.

This is a show I get surprisingly passionate about. I honestly thought about putting it higher simply because of how much of a reaction I get out of watching it. Unlike many other shows on this list, it’s not boring and there was never a dull moment. I wouldn’t say I was invested in it, but it always had my full attention when watching it and I plan to continue watching it because of masochism or something idk. That being said, what sounds like a complement in actuality is what I hate most about this show. This is a dumpster fire that I simply cannot ... stop watching. This is a show that makes me irrationally angry. It’s not even ironically good either, this is a pain to watch through and through. I despise everything about this show. Nothing else has made me more upset than watching this shit. I have thrown my phone or things at my phone at least 15 times throughout its runtime. I have audibly yelled at the screen, fantasized about beating the ever living shit out of the characters (no joke), and it makes me want to commit unspeakable atrocities. This is everything I hate about anime (especially anime Rom Coms). Before we get into the meat of what makes this show so bad there are a few things on a technical level that really rub me the wrong way. The first is the music. The love motif isn’t bad, however it is excessively overused. The characters don’t even have to do anything, they can just be in the same room and the theme would play. The other music is annoying and distracting. Like most rom-com anime, there is nothing visually interesting to latch onto. It’s as boring as the camera can get. The anime noises are annoying and excessive, the dialogue is written incredibly unnaturally and the fan service (also annoying and excessive) is obviously where most of the effort was put in animation-wise. All of the anime trademarks are there: the ‘in-love’ sparkling background, the annoyed tick mark, the overexaggerated sweat, the simplified chibi drawings for humor etc. It’s as basic and lazy as it gets. Even Uzaki, which I consider to be the blandest, most copy and paste modern romcom I ever saw, wasn’t as excessive when it comes to these anime trademarks. But this is all trivial compared to what comes next. “Half of romcom anime problems could be solved if the characters just explained the situation”. This sentiment has never been more true than in this anime. These types of shows thrive on contrivance, coincidence, and stubborn misunderstandings but this show takes it way the hell too far. In fact the premise of the show is based off of these. This guy goes to visit his grandma in the middle of his fake date and the Rental Girlfriend goes with him but surprise surprise, her grandma is also there to, is best friends with his grandma and now both families think they are a couple and will probably commit terrorism or something if it turns out they're not (other than them being disappointed I really don’t know why they can’t just tell them). First it off, coincidence on how their grandmas are best friends, contrivance on why she went with him in the first place and misunderstandings that they refuse to clear up. This drives the plot and it all happens in the first episode. The coincidences are way too forced and they happen all the time. This man could move to America in the most desolate town that isn’t even on the map somewhere in the desert in Arizona and he’d still somehow be neighbors with one of the girls. And I wouldn't be surprised. They just appear out of nowhere with no rhyme or reason for no other purpose than to misunderstand something and/or spawn even more bullshit. The plot is nonsensical and even worse, it never progresses. The problems keep piling up and get more complicated but it never feels to get any worse or better. Things just happen and his situation never actually changes. If someone is trying to say something to break the lies, you can bet your ass some unbelievably convenient coincidence is going to stop it. If he confesses he’ll just cover it up. If something happens the next episode will resolve it in two seconds. So much shit happens but none of it matters because the situation stays the same anyways rendering it all pointless. It’s repetitive, it’s tiresome and it’s frustrating. And it doesn’t help that the stuff that does happen is stupid as shit.As far as the episodic ‘plots’ go, this show’s drama is: Should I add her as a friend and get her contact info? (been together for a year). Should I make her wear a cute outfit? Should I tell her I went to her play? This girl forced herself to come over, how do I not get raped by her and then how do I convince other girl that I did not have the sexy time? Wow my friends or family are about to find out I’m a fake and get no bitches, how do I dig myself into a deeper hole and/or hide like Solid Snake? All this dude does is lie and he’s not even good at it. These fuckers are just gullible and def. It’s just as bad as it sounds. And it’s all held up by the truly worst part of the show: The characters. These are the most annoying and terrible people in anime. Kazuya is the worst protagonist of any show. Beta male is not low enough to describe him. He is the world's first Omega Male. And he doesn’t need to be an Otaku to do it. He is the lowest of the low. This is the guy who jerks off to his ex’s instagram. Everytime Chizuru is on screen he talks about how attractive she is. He gets excited way too easily. Literally she was just taking out the trash and this dude made a huge deal out of it, blushing freaking out and probably got a hard on. He is so fucking pathetic. And that’s not to say you can’t make a pathetic character interesting. Shinji from Evangelion, Onizuka from GTO, Sato from NHK. These are all pathetic but interesting characters. Kazuya is just frustrating and creepy. He at one point stalks Chizuru and he finds out he’s in love with her through, I kid you not, a jerk off scene (fuck this show for making me watch that). I want him to get better but he never will. Why do any of these girls like him? Speaking of the girls, let's start with my favorite character of the show, Sumi. She’s shy, quiet, cute, but most importantly, completely fucking pointless. She’s in about 3 episodes total. She literally cannot speak and has about 2 lines throughout her entire runtime. That’s why she’s my favorite. Because she doesn’t do anything to annoy me. She’s automatically the best girl only because she’s not an outright bitch. That’s all it takes. She’s not even a good character, and I’m afraid if they give her more screen time they will make her a bitch. Some other decent characters include the grandmas, who cause 30% of the problems but are the only source of decent humor, and Kibe, who had a great scene that made him seem like a chad but then they remind you that he’s friends with Kazuya. Chizuru wouldn’t be so bad, she’s hard working, kind and doesn’t like complications. But she is way the hell too distant. Like you’ve been wrapped up with this guy for about a year, can’t you at least consider him a friend? I mean I get it, he’s Kazuya, I wouldn’t want to be friends either, so then you should be finding a way out of it. Either admit to yourself like him and talk to him like a normal human being or stop leading him on. All this ‘professionalism’ bullshit just gets annoying after 2 episodes, much less the entire runtime. I don’t mind her setting the ground rules and explaining it’s never going to happen but she can at least show him human decency (not that he deserves it but when he’s the protagonist that means we have to deal with it too). That coupled with the fact that she goes on fake dates for a living (they try to justify this and it’s stupid) and you got yourself a certified bitch. Though she’s not nearly as bad as Mami. Mami is Kazuya’s ex who dumped him for apparently no reason (not that he doesn’t deserve it, it’s just they never explain it) and is now meddling in his life for no apparent reason. She goes out of her way to ruin his relationships and investigates his situation and for what? She has no motive. If the motive is she still likes him then that is just stupid and she certainly doesn’t act like it. She does nothing the entire show except pop up out of nowhere and question everything and to be a bitch. She is a nuisance meddling in her ex’s affairs whilst being condescending the whole time, all without a reason. But she still isn’t as bad as Ruka who is by far the worst character in the show and it makes me mad when people defend her. Ruka is the girl who is most actively trying to get with Kazuya because he was able to raise her heart rate (it’s as dumb as it sounds). She is loyal, devoted, obsessive, manipulative, scheming, selfish, jealous, near-psychotic, entitled, creepy and of course, a certified bitch. Reverse the roles and think if a dude did this to a girl and tell me if it’s alright with you. Ruka becomes his “girlfriend” through blackmail even though she knows he is in love with Chizuru. She’s trying to convince him to have sex with her and forcefully kisses him and forcefully stays at his house. At every opportunity she attempts to sabotage his relationships and ruin his life. This dude is having a family dinner with Chizuru and she stalks him and introduces herself as his girlfriend even though she knows, that’ll ruin his relationship with his family. She is a selfish entitled brat who doesn’t give a shit about Kazuya. People defend her by saying ‘she’s loyal’ but Rem from Re:Zero is also loyal but she respects Subaru's feelings and accepts her loss. She supports him nonetheless because she cares for his happiness. Ruka doesn’t give a shit about Kazuya, only herself. She is a selfish, certified bitch. Everyone in this show sucks. This show sucks.

This left such a bad taste that I couldn't help leave my first review.

Story - 1/10
There is no story. It is a bunch of forced interactions strewn up together to result in an unbearably horrid plot. This is supposed to be a college rom-com. There is neither romance nor comedy. But I suppose that is only natural, after all, how can a grade-schooler with an immeasurable libido in the body of a college student with no dignity or self-respect, falls in love with a rental girlfriend knowing that she is being a professional and providing the required service, whilst still having an erection whenever he ... sees his ex who dumped him after a month and belittles him afterward- be in any proper relationship? I'm not sure what the comedy aspect is, but if it is the situations driven by the necessity felt by the mc and rental to keep up their façade to please their friends and grandmothers for some reason (who should in no way have a say in their fake relationship), it fails miserably. However, I find it incredibly curious how the mc keeps pulling out the $$$ to be able to rent the girl. Maybe he works part-time when he is not busy being an idiot? That would definitely be a more interesting story.

Art - 7/10
The art is amazing. The character designs are really good as well. The scenes and characters are beautifully drawn and at first look, it could deceive you to resemble an actual romcom. Too bad such good art is wasted on such a trash plot.

Sound - 6/10
While there is nothing exceptional to point out about the sound, the voice actors have pulled their weight on this project. The sound effects aren't bad, but again, nothing notable. The opening and ending felt mediocre, but I'd rather watch that on loop than the actual anime.

Character - 1/10
Oh god, where do I start. The mc is so insufferable and forgettable that I only remember his name when someone says it in the show. The mc, who isn't actually terrible looking, is a college student, with no maturity, confidence, pride and dignity. He is the literal embodiment of pathetic.
The rental girlfriend, Mizuhara is more respectable however. She tries to be a professional in her service, only to sometimes be a little unnecessarily friendly due to... the mc, her client, is sad??? He needs to please his grandmother and friends??? Her break in character feels so bizarre. On the other hand, the ex, Mami seems to be the mysterious type whose actions and motivations are yet to be explained. However, I must thank her for insulting the mc when she did.
The grandmothers and friends are unbearably nosy, however they are necessary since it is their expectations the mc must meet to forcefully push the plot along.

Rent-a-GF, I really wanted to like you because you had good art, had a banger of an OP, and had stellar waifu designs, but I just couldn't. You were a toxic relationship, and one that I want to forget as soon as possible.

Rent-a-GF has a unique story I guess. You rarely encounter "romantic comedies" where a guy conveniently rents a girlfriend to get rid of his woes after a break-up. However, this novelty was all I enjoyed about rent-a-GF because although the plot was passable in its own bizarre way, the characters weren't.

Chizuru was an odd character and one that I didn't really ... like up until the end. She started of as a professional in her part-time job (i.e. a rental girlfriend), but slowly diverged from this professionalism and became a lot more intimate (in her unique way) with her client Kuzuya. She acts cold and harsh towards him but also spoils him on the side. It wasn’t until the last episode that it became apparent to me that she really cared for him despite Kuzuya being a horrible person. Chizuru's ability to accept Kuzu for who he truly is made her likeable.

Mami was your crazy ex that dumped you for no clear reason, but when you find someone else, decides that she was wrong and wants you back in the most indirect way possible through stalking and sabotaging your current romance.

Ruka had the best design out of all the waifus (in my opinion), but she became pretty clingy in a heartbeat and became too fixated in the “love” that she was feeling. I mean, how can you still be friends with a person that basically embarrassed you in front of his family by calling you a pathological liar not to mention wanting to be that person's girlfriend?

Sumi was the only decent character of the series. She’s just a really shy and awkward girl that wants to better herself. Yeah, you could argue that her being unable to speak with other people is a kinda a drag, but at least she acknowledges her weakness and tries to work on it.

Then finally, we have Kuzuya, the star of the show and the most annoying character I have ever gotten the displeasure of meeting. The dude has some good points, don’t get me wrong. When he saved Chizuru and stood up for Sumi was great. However, as soon as he does these “heroic” deeds, he equally reverts to being a lying scumbag. As mentioned, he embarrassed Ruka, he "faked" a confession with Chizuru and the list goes on and on that, I would rather not elaborate because it will come off as ranting. The dude is way too immature and indecisive for being a college student, and I feel there is no means of salvation from his scumbaggery.

Overall, rent-a-GF was a show that I thought would get better with time. I acknowledge how good the art and music were and the plot in itself wasn’t really bad. However, most of the characters were unlikeable and the comedy was a fiasco of cringe and awkwardness.

Without a doubt, one of the most stressful experiences I've ever had when watching an anime. There are very few things that save here, I even liked the changes in tone caused by the change in personalities performed by the character Chizuru Ichinose that comes up unexpectedly and changes the tone of the plot for some time, but that's practically just that.

I even understand what he wants to try to accomplish, trying to be this anime that will play with these everyday conventions of anime of the same genre, on paper he can even try to do that, but the formula itself does not escape ... much from this model. He is so formulaic that you can easily guess how the director will frame each scene so obvious and without creativity that it is, but at the same time he tries to squander some more creative devices that do not articulate with everything else that the director proposes, it is very hard to know what kind of anime Kanojo, Okarishimasu really wants to be.

But what really made me give up is how he likes to praise the virgin wanker protagonist. The character is always represented as a victim of the story, the anime wants us all the time to feel sorry for him, and for him to end well with a girl, otherwise he will hurt his little voice. When the anime does not present everything in a formulaic way, it frames the character in a vulnerable position as if he were in the greatest loneliness on earth, it becomes pathetic. In the 10:00 minute of episode 5, when the anime shows us fascinating and dazzling masturbation of the character in a festive and almost romantic way, because he is the poor thing in the story, I couldn't stand it and gave up.

Don't waste your time with this garbage like I did. Watching Kanojo, Okarishimasu was the worst experience I have ever had the displeasure of in anime. Every single episode was painful to sit through; the characters are worthless; others might praise the animation but I found it rather bland and uninspired. Not only is it full of fan-service, the plot is devoid of any logic, the music is forgetable and to be honest this anime is so bad it makes me want to forget about it. I sincerely suggest to anyone reading this, do not waste your time watching this, you can spend your time ... experiencing much better media (almost anything is better than this anime).

As a girl, this has to be one of the most awful shows I have ever watched.

Imagine you are a girl, and you get a kazuya living next to you, going to your school, can't get over his ex, black mails you to continue being his gf, all while being so spineless and worthless that he let's a literal bug walk over him when he needs to do any amount of push back when it actually matters.

This would be any girl's nightmare, which this show, with its obviously written by a guy narrative, doesn't seem to realize and thinks is funny.

Not only ... that, but his friends are also just a bunch of degenerate scumbags who openly ogle their apparent friend's girlfriend and make lewd comments about her.

Frankly it's a disgusting show with a disgusting cast of manchildren ruining what could be a perfectly serviceable and fun catfight.

The mc is a pussy, literally can not relate to this guy what so ever. I don't see whats the good thing about the anime other than cute girls. The way he treats the girls too but to avoid spoilers hes just a walking train wreck which makes it super hard to watch without wanting to jump off a building. There is a reason why this anime doesn't have a 8/10 rating and it will never will have be. I do not reccomend this anime to anyone, there are so much better anime out there, but this.........is just going to waste your time.

i have never written a single review in all the 1400+ anime i have watched in the past years. Yet i have felt compelled to write one now to express how much i hate this anime. The MC is trash, literally the most trash of any you will ever find in any anime ever created.

I'm just gonna go outta the way and say this : This review is for the people who understand the term 'LOGIC' for a human brain and who have already watched Kanokari and find it to be a piece of art. This review ONLY deals with the story and characters. The art and music are quite quirky and weird and get sidelined anyways with such an exquisite plot on display.
Now that we have THAT outta the way, I would like to make a claim.

THIS ANIME AND MANGA ARE BULLSHIT. The reason? The story's plot whores. Yes ! You read that right !
Plot whores are ... a new type of phenomenon where some elements of the plot entice the viewer by playing on and exploiting their insecurities about their real life relationships.

Now what makes this anime BAD?
First of all, the story, characters, art, music and then the other peculiarities. This anime obliterates 2 of those parameters to another level. The characters and The Story.

● THE CHARACTERS :

▶ Now, how is the MC's grandmother not pathetic ? Because she forces everyone to act the way she likes and just expects them to roll with it. (which the fuckers do!) She is supposed to be an adult but acts in the most loathsome, clingy and cringy way possible . She just expects everyone to act according to her preferences for no good reason and acts like a spoiled child who wants a toy for her pleasure. Never have I seen such a poorly written elderly character who is NOTHING but a cash deposit and a liability to the family.

▶ Now I know that people don't like mami BUT, I like the fact that she leads him on and away from the web of lies that he himself created . She seems like the most useful character in the progression of the plot at least for the first season. By reading the manga far enough I know that the author is cutting her on-time so that she does something stupid later and then everyone would hate even more on her. She is a dispensable character.

▶ I don't even know why people shit on ruka. Does anyone know what it means to be labelled as a pathological liar in front of adults whom she had just interacted with ? Who in their right minds supports their rental girlfriend more that their real GF ?? Its utter BS ! She might be persistent but at least she has a SANE development! She met a guy, then saw god knows what in him, and then tried to understand his situation and help him in the most logical and considerate way possible. It is very similar to chizuru's development towards kazuya.

▶ I don't really know why people are drooling over sumi and kibe. They are literally like a cherry plopped on turd. All they exist for is to make the MC realise something, but, nothing gets through his thick head and broken dick.

It is unfair for these girls to be involved with a DIPSHIT like Kazuya whose character is just not eligible to be in this anime/manga. People might say this sort of situation is very realistic, but, I can assure you that IF this happens in the real world, this guy would not be able to live. He would be shown his insecurities by the society constantly and called out for acting like a child. Henceforth, he would improve himself in a logical way and NOT with the help of mystical rental girlfriends who somehow appear out of nowhere in his life. This is pure fiction and should remain that way.

⫸ THE STORY :
The only things tying together the stories of our cumstain Kazuya Kinoshita and the girls are :

1) The extremely trashy and ANNOYING dipshit of a grandmother who wants to interfere in her grandson's business for no reason at all.

2) The plot CONVENIENCE. (of course)

3) The benevolence of a girl like mizuhara who is sooo accommodating and at times SO FUCKING OVER-COMMITTING to the role of a rental girlfriend. I swear she acts like a fucking rental wife on some occasions ...

AND the last as well as the worst,

4) The spineless fucker of the century, the greatest and the most despicable MC in the world of romcoms KAZU-FUCKING-KINOSHITA.
A person who blows away his family's earnings partaking in soft core prostitution for a hobby as he doesn't value money. He is an immense liar who lies to get out of every situation. He is extremely indecisive. He has no interests towards anything or any other hobbies. He has no goal. He hasn't got the balls to be decisive in literally any sort of conversation he makes, he depends on others to help him through any problem (generally whenever there was a pickle, it was always the side characters that appeared and took him away). He has no feelings whatsoever because he has NO REASON behind any of his actions. A person whose whole life revolves around his grandmother and the rest of the family with no real motive or life of his own. A person whose self worth can only be measured in nanometers.
He has been shown to have the quality of _______. You wonder why there is nothing written at the end of the last sentence ? Because he has the quality of NOTHING. He exudes nothingness. Since, every other character fills his world with something because he has done absolutely nothing in his entire life till now.

● FINAL THOUGHTS :

Look, what makes a good romcom is believable characters with realistic problems and situations . Now, this "SITUATION" might be true for one in a billionth person on this planet but the reason people are liking this show is simply because they want to secretly shit on their ex or just like the idea of stupidity and romance going together. They wanna blame Mami for the reason their relationship didn't work out OR simply have the same sort of spineless attitude towards their insecurities that Kazuya has, so they wanna relate to him in some way or the other, just shedding all reason.
AND SO, PLEASE DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME ANY FURTHER ON THIS STUPID, NON-SELF WORTH GIVING PIECE OF CRAP.

Opening Banger. Anime, ass. Please don't be like my guy who read the manga. Get bitches, and touch grass. Steins;Gates is a must-watch series, if only to watch how it consistently pushes boundaries in the genre of science fiction. Funny, intense and occasionally creepy, Steins;Gate contains just about everything you could ask for in an anime series. Steins;Gate is an emotional, time-travel story with interesting characters and an engaging intertwining storyline. Steins;Gate is slow to start, but builds into an enthralling sci-fi mystery with tight plotting, memorable characters, and a genuinely novel twist on the iterative process of time travel.

Kanojo, Okarishimasu is a late 2020 anime from TMS. We know them from such series as Sengoku Otome, Glass no Kamen & Wizardry. So, not the best record. It's based off of a manga by Miyajima Reiji. Who I know nothing about. So, let's delve in and hope this is one of TMS's good ones.

Story:

Things aren't going well for Kinoshita Kazuya. He's broken up with his first ever girlfriend. His friends are making fun of him. So, feeling vulnerable, he decides to try renting a girlfriend. He rents Ichinose Chizuru and, due to extremely dumb circumstances, their families and his friends find ... out and they have to maintain the deception.

There are a lot of problems with this series. First of all, the amount of bizarre coincidences that force these two together and compel them to keep lying about having a relationship is absurd. It makes Steerforth showing up randomly look like a completely ordinary and probable event. Hell, it makes surviving a bomb inside a fridge look possible by comparison. The second major problem is that the "comedy" is just loud and annoying. It's always based around Shita getting into yet another stupidly improbable coincidence, immediately panicking and blurting out something asinine. Another problem with the series is that the characters never take the completely obvious way out of their situation. Literally all they have to do is say they realised they weren't right for each other and broke up. Series over in two episodes and significantly more tolerable.

The romance in this is horrendous too. It's one of those series that has harem elements where the main protagonist has no redeeming qualities and he's pathetic and he would lose a battle of wits to a keychain but physically attractive girls with bland personalities are into him for no discernable reason. Yet another major underlying problem with this series is that the whole thing is really obnoxious and cringey. It's like watching a fifteen year old trying to convince their friends that they're cool by making up the world's most obvious lies for four hours.

Characters:

The characters in this are steaming rubbish. The potential love interest characters are just fetish fuel archetypes. Shita is a pathetic loser dumbass with no redeeming qualities. It's physically painful to watch his character because he's so incessantly annoying. Maybe he's not the worst protagonist I've ever had the misfortune of seeing, but he's definitely in the bottom ten. And the side characters are a bunch of brain dead, devoid of personality puppets.

Art:

The art is definitely the least shit element of the series. Sure, the backgrounds frequently look like lazy, no effort backdrops and they use excessive fanservice as a substitute for good character design but it's not all that bad. The animation flows fine and the designs are fine.

Sound:

The acting is pretty bad in this. And the big problem with the performances is that the actors are either going way over the top like they're elementary students in their first play or they just sound very bored. Horie Shun is the worst offender as Shita. But you also get it from Amamiya Sora, Touyama Nao and the rest. I think part of the problem is the directing and part of it is the writing, personally. I know, for example, that Amamiya can act since she was Jing Xia lin in Appare-Ranman and gave some other strong performances in various anime. The music is just meh. Bland, forgettable.

Ho-yay:

None of that. Which I'm fine with. They would've just screwed it up like they did their heteronormative romance.

Areas of Improvement:

1. You don't need an entire harem of background girls.

2. If you're going to go with the "they have to pretend to be a real couple for the sake of their families" shit, then just have the entire series take place over the course of a single family trip. Then there's a reason that they have to keep up the whole stupid façade instead of them having ample opportunity to just "break up."

3. Your main characters need something. They don't necessarily have to be likeable but they should either be endearing in some way or interesting. These characters are just nothing characters who are extremely aggravating and obnoxious.

Final Thoughts:

This is, by a good margin, the worst TMS anime I've ever seen. The romance is dreadful. The writing is atrocious. Pieceashita is one of the worst protagonists it's ever been my misfortune to see. The whole anime is just painfully terrible and difficult to sit through. My final rating is a 1/10.

Honestly there is no reasoning with this one. Easily the worst anime of the year, and one of the worst I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ll straight up say that the protagonist is a self-insert of an author who believes that these hot, beautiful, submissive women who fall for complete losers exist in real life. It’s a sick personal fantasy that somehow got its own anime.

Because the protagonist isn’t an easy self insert with no personality like a Kirito, nor he is an average loser who just can’t get a girlfriend, he is trash. Totally trash at a point that you really need to ... hate yourself too much to identify with him. The guy masturbates thinking about his ex. He falls in love with a prostitute. He lies to everyone to make them believe he has a girlfriend, even to his sick grandma. And many things more that I could spend the entire review just rambling how terrible he is.

Being that trash, I expected this anime to be just a comedy, with no one actually falling for him. Because this guy isn’t fit to have a relationship, not even a fucking HAREM. And this is the worst part, that somehow four hot girls like him.

Chizuru is probably the worst case of this. In the beginning she seemed like a decent character, looking like the ONLY good character we would have out of this because all the rest seemed like terrible people. Well, her and Kibe. But how the story resolves Chizuru? The protagonist messed up her job, forced her into stupid situations like meeting his family, his group of friends and forcing her to save his ass many times. Still, despite the guy having ruined her job and her life and always mistreating her, she gives a lot of hints that she is in love with him. WHY? Does this author understand anything about women, or about people in general?

Not to mention that prostitution is a serious matter, and here her being a “soft slut” is represented as something normal, but actually that’s something that no one wants to be and she may have a reason to do what she does. But what would that be? We don’t know, because the story has no focus on her, but on the dumpster fire of a protagonist that she falls in love with. Yes, in addition to all of the above, the anime also romanticizes prostitution.

And the author just doesn’t know how to write a story. He will put stupid plot conveniences everywhere: Prostitute’s grandma is friends with the protagonist’s, she lives on the house next to him, they study in the same university, they go to the same beach on holidays. And to make the protagonist look less like a piece of shit he will pull a dramatic mexican telenovela plot and make the girl FAINT AND FALL FROM A SHIP, so he can save her life and DROWN, just so she has to kiss him to save his life. Why? Because the author can’t develop their relationship in a decent way, has to appeal to tragedy to make the protagonist do something good, and can’t make their relationship not feel forced, in a way that he has to throw a literal situation of life and death to have an excuse for them to kiss.

Despite having quit after episode 5 – the most cringy scene I’ve ever seen, a guy falling in love when he was jerking off - I’m aware of what happens later. I had hope for the other two girls to be better than Evil Ex-Girlfriend Who Wants Him Back For No Reason and Prostitute Dream Girl Who Has Stockholm Syndrom. But they are no different and will also be submissive waifus to him. The one with short black hair, as an example, is totally possessive regarding the main character and is totally bound to him.

Another thing terrible about this anime is that the episodes are painful to watch. I couldn't watch an entire episode at once, specially the last ones I saw, I had to pause many times, take a deep breath and think what was I doing with my life. There's just so many unconfortable and cringy scenes that were supposed to be funny or dramatic and I just couldn't endure it.

In conclusion, this is just a trash harem that managed to be even worse than generic ones because of the clickbait at the beginning that it might be something different, and because of the stupid hype Crunchyroll brought when it was being released. It has the worst protagonist of the year, worst girls of the year and worst story of the year, easily. If you identify with this protagonist, ship Chizuru with him and think this anime is genuinely good, please treat yourself.

What pains me is that this dumpster fire will get a second season while some good manga that only got a short 12 episodes anime will remain forgotten from existence.

My expectations for this was a fresh, new story that was brave enough to use a complex topic like a rental girlfriend to seriously handle the issues of love, loneliness, and money, but also be intelligent and lighthearted enough to be a rom com, a favorite genre of mine, after all. (If you want a real Rom-Com, watch Kaguya Sama: Love is War!)

Obviously the show started out this way, and I enjoyed seeing the comedic way of how exactly the main character and the rental girlfriend were going to be bound together beyond their initial contract. That was great, and I was excited for ... the show. But then, the tactics used to extend this bond became quite cheap, annoying, and unrealistic (they jump the shark at Episode 4).

The average person who is going to rely on a rental service like this is most likely already down on their luck, so I truly don't understand why this anime is going out of its way to make us dislike the MC beyond his circumstances. We as an audience were supposed to lose respect for the MC because of his use of the rental girlfriend, and possibly feel sympathy for him when we see that although he wants to stop using the service, he can't.

Instead, the MC is presumptuous and volatile, who you will soon find out is not at all a loser by accident, which is a relatable trait to most guys, but a loser by choice, with the incessant lying he does to dig himself a deeper hole, and then the self-deprecation he uses to manipulate the people he hurts not to leave him. You will also see that his perceived good deeds and traits are merely over-analyzed, excused, or projections from others, when in reality the MC was merely serving his own self-interest.

The story could have become more complex as well by adding more of the perspective of the rental girl herself, and any possible moral implications there could be for manipulating men, and specifically the MC, for their money. The other supporting cast had potential too, like his friend Kibe, which could serve as another great source of drama through their doubt or jealousy which leads them to eventually expose the relationship. This could still happen, but the fact that this anime is also on its way to becoming a harem anime, I doubt the male friends will achieve any relevancy in this anime at all, which is an extremely overlooked fact since loser males actually only have male friends.

For those who say that anime is supposed to be fantastical and should not be critiqued for its logic, they simply haven't realized that they could only enjoy a show like this because of the eye candy. But luckily for them, thinking with their other head is actually a trait they share with this horrible MC, so I guess this anime is grounded in reality after all.

To put it simply.This anime sucks and i got nothing else to say more and dont watch it Lol.

Since this was my first time reviewing a anime i didnt know what to write.I tried to describe everything briefly and yeah thats all lol.

kanojo Okarishimasu is stupid It felt like torture watching the whole series. Absolutely Pathetic, Has no good Story at all. Characters that I'm desperate to beat the shit out off. All round I expected something at least some form of Story but nope just a cute girl And A desperate boy. One of the most useless animes I've watched. Just a waste of Time if you're expecting something good.

Rent A Girlfriend has been on my radar for a while Since a lot of fuss about her being best waifu (she's not) At my desperation and boredom i decided to watch it.

At times ... i think of this show as A great way to get my mind off something and Think about how shit it is. it all starts with Kazuya. One of the most annoying characters I've seen in my life, There have been way too many times where i want to hit my monitor hoping to hurt him in real life.
Story was a unique idea i give you that. "rent-a-girlfriend' isn't something you'd see on a daily basis.

Being the shit show it is it gets "better" when Kazuya starts to fantasize how his ex-girlfriend is having sexual relation with her new boyfriend. However, from all the feelings that any normal human being would have, for example: rage, grievance, indifference, what he feels is sexual arousal. like what part in being dumped do you find sexual?
He says his family is poor but They suddenly have the money to "Rent-a-girlfriend'
. The only character i can respect is Chirizu as she's the only character where they put effort in.

In the end, If your looking for a show to really wanna beat somebody or just plain torture this is show for you. If youre looking at watching it as an actual show, Don't its one of the best Ways to WASTE a few hours of your life
