Vinland Saga Season 2

After his father's death and the destruction of his village at the hands of English raiders, Einar wishes for a peaceful life with his family on their newly rebuilt farms. However, fate has other plans: his village is invaded once again. Einar watches helplessly as the marauding Danes burn his lands and slaughter his family. The invaders capture Einar and take him back to Denmark as a slave.

Einar clings to his mother's final words to survive. He is purchased by Ketil, a kind slave owner and landlord who promises that Einar can regain his freedom in return for working in the fields. Soon, Einar encounters his new partner in farm cultivation—Thorfinn, a dejected and melancholic slave. As Einar and Thorfinn work together toward their freedom, they are haunted by both sins of the past and the ploys of the present. Yet they carry on, grasping for a glimmer of hope, redemption, and peace in a world that is nothing but unjust and unforgiving.

“I have no enemies.” The second season of Vinland Saga is the culmination of a foundation laid prior and is one of few stories that captures the essence of people as opposed to written characters. Having the confidence to tell a narrative, despite knowing some would be unwilling to see it through or try to understand, garners massive respect for the author. Strive to appreciate the messages of forgiveness, acceptance, and redemption. We are encouraged to become better people in spite of the burdens we carry or when enduring circumstances beyond our control. Please watch this with your full attention. This one is truly special.

Mixed Feelings

I didn’t want to write this review but I almost feel like I have too. Season 1 and Season 2 of the Vinland saga aren’t even the same show. The death of Askalad by the wrong hands is the literal death of this show and the death of Thorfinns character as we know it. Now don’t get me wrong, if you’re looking for a slaver story with none of the characters from season one, you’ll get it here. Otherwise stay the hell away from this waste of time of a season. A complete and utter disappointment from the high bar Season 1 set, I guess ... even the writers couldn’t stick the landing.

Have you ever written a paper that needs to be 5 pages, but ran out of ideas after 1 so you just find different ways to repeat yourself until you hit the 5 page mark? That is the core of the problem with Vinland Saga season 2, it would have been an ok show had it been somewhere between 8 and 12 episodes.

If you enjoyed the first season, this will likely be a letdown. The story takes a major turn in a boring direction compared to season 1, but the story is not bad, there just is not 24 episodes worth of story that it ... covers. Be ready with the skip ahead 10 seconds button.
