Renkurana | Jan 10, 2018 3:43 PM Club News The new year is here and that usually means new things right? Not for this club. I'm still working mostly solo as I've done all of 2017. Unless I get new staff members, ones that are actually 100% active, the same things will occur as usual. But almost everything is back up now. Stuff like Loyalty Cards, claims, past editions, w/e I shut down in December. Now that the holidays are winding down, not much reasons to go out other than the occasional hangouts and parties like birthdays and such. It is also 4 months before the club's 5th anniversary. There won't be much going on but there will be some stuff going on. Of course, everything will naturally depend on what happens IRL. But that's 4 months away. Expect less activities since I prefer to do other things first like games. Plus, it is my club so I get to decide my own schedule. Sandrean | Nov 16, 2017 9:25 PM Written by Renkurana Club News First off, to those that participate in our little Halloween Event, we hope you enjoyed it. Given the small amount of "active" staff we have, the idea was to keep it simple, small, yet entertaining. Even if you get it wrong, it's not necessary a bad thing. Of course, if you only cared about the cards, then we can't do anything about that. As for the Christmas Events, don't expect any much from it like other clubs. The theme in this club is simple and easy-going. If you want fancy, this isn't the right club to be in. With that said, there will be some things going on. There'll be some small things going on. However, we haven't decide whether or not the "main event" will also be small, or as "big" as the Halloween event. No, doors will not be involved this time but we'll do what we can to make it fun. Keep in mind that other than a deliverer helping me out, I'm basically the only one active in the club, hence why you shouldn't expect big things from the club. Since the main focus is on the Christmas/Winter events, you can be sure that there'll be decreased activities from myself and the other staff. Stuff like claims, past editions, etc, will not be open. And, it's not just because of Christmas events; my work schedule will become more heavy due to the holidays, which is expected. That'll be all for this newsletter. Mafia Tip #12: Alignment changes Quite often, in mafia games, you may encounter terms or expressions that you don't understand. To appease this frustration, this section titled "Mafia tips" will introduce you to some of the mafia terms and such that might help you speak on the same level as some other players. Hopefully, not only you will be more knowledgeable but you will also be able to use these tips in the games! The subject of this month is Alignment changes! Alignment changes, while uncommon in normal set-ups can make for rather interesting games though the mechanic can bring up the matter of balance and are in most cases considered a bastard element. These can take the form of cults which can recruit throughout the game, or more simple ones in which there will be a one off change, this can be based on an activated ability or a passive trigger and in some cases this is hidden to the select player(s). Such a mechanic can throw most player off their game as it can render otherwise reliable sources that check ones alignment moot when held till after information is revealed. Once conversions such as cults become public knowledge, they hold the power to influence players to work towards dismissing their original win conditions once they believe the game favours being converted. This may lead to questionable conduct as far as playing to ones win condition is concerned. It can also lead to players ending up on what can feel like an undeserved loss if converted at an undesirable time. Conversions from Mafia to another faction should however be avoided, as it is near impossible to stop the leaking of information that would ruin the game state as a whole. Event: Best Villain Nomination Thread This is a new event in which you can nominate antagonists you like to eventually encourage their win in a tournament to determine which anime/manga antagonist the users like the best! Thread here! Mafia Tip #11: Mountainous Quite often, in mafia games, you may encounter terms or expressions that you don't understand. To appease this frustration, this section titled "Mafia tips" will introduce you to some of the mafia terms and such that might help you speak on the same level as some other players. Hopefully, not only you will be more knowledgeable but you will also be able to use these tips in the games! The term of this month is Mountainous! Mountainous is a term given to setups that have no power roles at all (in other words, no abilities for any role). The name has acquired the connotation that these games are "difficult" due to the lack of power roles helping Town. A classic mountainous setup has a 10:2 or 11:2 ratio of townies:mafia. It has long been a setup that relies exclusively on player skill. The balance of this setup is highly suspect, though, as the Town's theoretical win rate is only 33.2% - almost the same as Town winning a 2:1 situation. Example role PMs Welcome, [Player Name]. Here's a preview of what will come up: For September, we will have mystery cards. If you don't know what that is, then it'll be a mystery to you until it's opened. I haven't decided how many time it'll be opened (at least 1) as well as whether or not it'll continue beyond September. October features Halloween at the end of the month as usual. So that means Halloween-related events. The question is, what kind of event will it be? We could do another trick-or-treat like last year. Maybe go hunting for stuff like kids do with candies. November....most likely nothing. Thanksgiving is an American holiday but even then, the only thing that people do on that day is getting fat by eating a shit ton of food. Or drink and get a hangover. We may have something but that's to be decided during October. December, the month of Christmas and the start of the winter holiday. Should we be nice with the events? Or be naughty and have extra fun? Just a little warning though: w/e we decide to do, it won't be that easy. You members will have to do more than just post to get free stuff. With plenty of things to deal with, I cannot be on discord all day. The same goes for the staff. A A Kingmaker is a player who can influence a faction's win but unable to win himself. In many important instances, they decide which faction wins. In cases involving Survivors, a Kingmaker might be guaranteed to win, instead of incapable of winning. Kingmaker are often associated with Dilemma scenarios such as: (Assuming that the identities of scum players (or just townies) are known.) Three-player endgame: One Townie, one Mafioso, and one Serial Killer. Four-player endgame: Two Townies, one Mafioso, and one Serial Killer. Five-player endgame: One Townie, and two Mafiosi each from different factions. Six-player endgame: Two Townies and two Mafiosi each from different factions. An example of this in MS would be the endgame for The Ultimate Anime Showdown 2 where town Mkim was the decisive vote between two mafia of opposite faction. Renkurana | Aug 11, 2017 9:15 PM Club News I will no longer be closing down this club next April as previously planned I've come to the realization that closing down the club next year will not only be an insult to myself, it's telling myself that I'm running away from the problem instead of dealing and beating the shit out of it. I know for a fact that deep down, I'll have plenty of resources and ideas to still run the club for all of 2018. If I have to reuse an idea over and over, then I'll do that. As the creator of the club, I can do w/e the fuck I want. If people don't like it, then that's too bad. It ain't about you; it's about me doing w/e I need to do to keep this club active for as long as I can. So, I plan to take this club into a new direction, giving it a renewed life. Of course, the question is, what will I be doing? I don't have an answer yet. I don't know what I'll do, but w/e it is, I can assure you that when the club anniversary hits again in April, it won't be in this current pathetic state. As for the staff, in the past NLs, I've been wanting to get new staff members. Now, I really don't give a shit about that. I ain't got a problem if I have to work alone for the rest of this club's life. I've been doing it for years so I can certainly keep at it for a couple more years. If anyone wants to still come and help, then by all means feel free to do so. Whether it's as a card maker, a deliverer, a game maker, or w/e, it doesn't matter to me. Any help I get is a positive, unless you decide to piss me off and start becoming an obstacle to get rid of. That will be my plan going forward. Doesn't matter to me which of you members wants to join me in my road to revitalize the club. All I know is, at the end of the day, the club is an extension of me. An open setup game based on the second season of Attack on Titan (spoilers ahead!). Spectate here! Eeveelution Mafia (ongoing) hosted by Togs and Kit An exciting role madness game with very few players. The roles are flavored with the different Eeveelutions from Pokémon. Spectate here! Hydra Mafia (ongoing) hosted by _Claire_ and Togs A hydra game is one where each two players are paired into a single account with which both will post. Thus, with 9 roles in play, there are 18 participants, all trying to balance their reads between the two players of each hydra account to come to a conclusion on its alignment. This particular game is run on Discord, where multi-accounting is more forgiven, but it is possible to ask the host for a spectator seat if you have a Discord account yourself. Thread here! Mafia Tip #9: Compulsive Role Quite often, in mafia games, you may encounter terms or expressions that you don't understand. To appease this frustration, this section titled "Mafia tips" will introduce you to some of the mafia terms and such that might help you speak on the same level as some other players. Hopefully, not only you will be more knowledgeable but you will also be able to use these tips in the games! The term of this month is compulsive! Compulsive is a role modifier such that the role must use its Night Action each Night unless some external factor prevents the player from doing so. A player with a Compulsive action cannot submit "No Action", and if they fail to submit an action, the player is either modkilled or the action/the action's target is randomized. The most common role with this modifier is Vigilante. The Compulsive modifier is generally used to ensure that actions are used when possible. This is usually ascribed to roles that are pivotal to the setup. By making a Vigilante Compulsive, the rate of death can be controlled throughout the game, thus allowing the game to be easier to balance. As for this NL, I'll keep it short this time compared to the others. --------------------------------------- If you requested in the Gothic Lolita edition, then you're aware of how many editions I'll be done on top of others. Therefore, I expect some of you to at least have some decency to keep the club active. Use the club comments more often, get the games more active, or w/e you think would help the club. Or hell, join the staff so you can really help the club out and get some benefits I get it, those of you that are interested in joining do not want to join as a Card Maker, Hell, some of you have expressed your interests in a non-Card Maker position before, Now, I have no problem opening up those positions. I haven't exactly figure out all the positions I may need. On the top of my head, a deliver, game maker/master, club moderator sounds nice. Maybe a discord moderator? Only if enough people are interested will I re-open the club discord. If you have an interest in any of those positions or any that I didn't list, send me a PM. For those interested in card making, it doesn't matter if you're inexperienced/new. As long as you're willing to help out and stay active, you're more than welcome to join. --------------------------------------- Now, is this a subtle message of me trying to get more staff members? Maybe, but it won't change anything if I'm working by myself for the rest of the year. I do question on why I don't get people applying. Is it because the club isn't as active? Or maybe there were people out there telling others to not apply because they say I'm some kind of tyrant leader. Gee, I didn't realize that making sure people are doing what they're supposed to be doing and being responsible makes me a bad leader.
