Even that jewelry resembles the eye of a cat.

It seems this show takes all sorts of clients, even young kids. The cat's eye definitely gave me the impression of a valuable item. I do kinda like they bring some creativity into the jewels rather than just generic objects.

I think my main thing with this show that constantly bugs me isn't the plot or the characters themselves, it's the presentation. I mean, this episode didn't have the most engaging plot (it's just some kid misunderstanding a medical issue and the Dad is a bit of an idiot), but the way they present it is in the most boring way possible.

We spend the majority of the episode in one room with some backstory around a table (the most exciting way to do a backstory I know) and instead of confronting the dad at the house or going to the hospital where the mom is because she doesn't do anything this entire time. Or better yet, make the kid give into his childish emotions and steal one of Richard's yellow cat jewels (let's say he did have one) and he runs to his mother and Segi chases after him and the father comes in and he goes with Richerd to the hospital or something like that. Nope, we stay in the exact same room and basically everything gets cleared up and we're done. I know that staying in the store is probably the way the manga did it but for anime, you have to spice it up a bit. It's not like the animation in the show isn't bad. It's pretty solid for the most part but the way they frame and light the show, it just feels sterile.

While on the characters, Richerd could be interesting but he hasn't and Segi? Dude feels like a wooden cardboard and his romance with this girl feels like a waste.
It really do be like that though.

How is this doing it; it's so interesting!

Normally, fictional kids make my blood boil, but this kid was oddly cute and likeable.

I love Richard's expression when he saw the boy eating his sweets. hahah. Priceless!

There were some things that I found dissatisfying like the kid defending his dad (as he appears too young to have the maturity to defend someone he's mad at), or the dad's excuse or their promise.

Seigi and the girl's relation seem kind of forced. I hope it leads nowhere. Seigi and Richard have more tension building, but I know it will lead nowhere. Though, I am glad that this anime properly talked about homosexuality last episode.

probably the best episode so far. I'm not a fan of Seigi's character so far though. He's too much of a goodie-goodie and kind of one-dimensional at this point. His affection for that girl feels so forced. Maybe they'll actually develop a decent relationship, but most het romances in anime bore me
to tears because it's usually so tropey. I knew from the get go this wasn't gonna be a BL series, but thought they'd try the fujo-bait angle, but maybe not.

I'm more interested in seeing where Richard's character will go. That line from him about "love and compatibility" makes me thing he has some kinda tragic past, that may explain his cold personality.

Hajime's dad is a complete idiot though. What an awful parent to take away a kid's beloved pet and lie to them about their disappearance?? Also, all cats can carry toxoplasmosis, not just stray cats. Yet a pregnant woman can only get it from coming into contact with the cat's soiled litter such when scooping the litter box. Seemed like a pretty contrived way to insert some drama.

So today's gen stone is a Cat's Eye similar to this, net worth, about $15,000 per carat.

man, why would they used a kid to do some digging into some gem stone that most kids wouldn't even understand?????

This episode is probably the worse one yet lol. To call this anime a "mystery" anime is an overstatement. But I guess that is my own fault for interpreting "mystery" to be literal, whereas in this anime, the mystery refers to the inner psychological workings represented by the gemstones.

I would assume that the reason the anime included this case is to hint at Seigi’s daddy issues. This episode was cute, I guess but not super compelling. There was no good reason for the dad to lie.

I get the feeling that she’s not actually into him and they won’t be a thing but who knows...

There’s plenty of Richard & Seigi “bait” in the novel. Interesting that the anime has cut it all out so far.

I believe it's better to be honest with children. This way they will know they have someone they can trust. Children are way more perceptive than adults think after all. Good thing nothing bad happened to the cat, or Hajime's mother, and that he and his father are okay now. It was a good episode. I wonder what Seigi's father did though, for him to say those things.

Dropped, I had some hope for this from the start, hoping for some mystery, interesting characters or at least some well presented information about the topic at hand, but the presentation falls flat, the dialogue is cringeworthy at every moment and the 'mystery' every episode so far is just some stupid misunderstanding that could be fixed if people just used their mouth to talk.

Pretentious without any substance or redeeming quality. The only interesting character so far is the girl and that is probably only because we know very little about her.

And can Richard discipline him and tell him to shut up once in a while?
He kept talking and talking, saying stupid things to the kid...

And really? Richard just remembered who he sold the gem to? Am I supposed to really believe that?
Anyway, not a fan of this episode, even though the idea behind it wasn't bad

We got to see Richard's cute side, nice.

I don't mind if it doesn't have much mystery, it's quite relaxing so far. Seigi is a bit... not very likable, I guess. But let's see how it goes, he clearly has some drama from childhood.

The girl voiced by HanaKana is definitely not shy, I like her resolve to just invite him while he was struggling and tripping over his thoughts. But I'd prefer if she was just genuinely curious in minerals and Seigi just happened to be interested too, so she let him tag along.

Oh, and that phrase about love and compatibility being different. I wonder if it's somehow meaningful for future development.

What I've learned so far:

Seigi's flashback + talking trash about Hajime's father without knowing anything = daddy issues, that will be revealed later on and give Seigi supposedly dramatic background.

Richard has a sweet tooth.

Okey, so Seigi was kinda good in the first two episodes, the typical "I'm a nice guy and stand for justice" protagonist. In this episode though, I felt like he disrespected that kid in a such an unnecessary way, even if he came around a bit after a while he was still a client and should have been treated with respect. I feel bad for Richard for having that kind of employee.
And somehow I missed the part about them being consultants towards both jewels and humans, what is this, a counselor meeting to sort everyones problems out? I understand that it is for the plot and all that, but I thought that this would be more mystery than people carrying emotional bagage and releasing it on them. And I also thought Seigi has some semblance of common sense as to how to treat people. Tsk, Tsk..
I'm still gonna watch it though..

I started off the episode not super looking forward to it, and ended up getting misty-eyed at several points because this show doesn't mess around. Even during slower, less dramatic episodes, the writing is on point and the drama feels real without being too hokey.

Also I've been that little kid helplessly trying to find a way to connect with my missing pet. So maybe I'm biased.

Well...a cat's eye (the jewel) in question, and a young kid wanting to have possession of a jewel? That sure raises doubts.

But a legit cat with nine lives predicting things of the future? That's some shitz, only with superstitions that the client's family cannot handle. No wonder a gemstone like a cat's eye would send a family berserk (depending on region and superstition).

NGL it's kinda a drag about simple family complications, but kinda glad it was resolved, one-off issue as usual.

I realize I had said in the thread for the last episode (episode two) that Seigi was unfairly berated over the non-discrimination malarkey, but in the instance in this episode, although seemingly well-intentioned, he was way out of line and Richard's casual rebuke more than justified. I don't care what the situation is involving why the boy felt the need to come to the store alone, the father lying, or the situation involving the cat or the pregnant mother.

Regardless of all that and who was in the wrong or in the right and how it should have been handled, you never say to a child that their parents are bad or "the worst", no matter what it may look like from the outside. It's extremely inappropriate to meddle in the internal dynamics of someone's household and immediate family like that. Maybe other family members and close friends who have a relationship with the person in question where they can say anything they want and speak freely in front of each other, but certainly not in a customer-worker relationship in a professional setting.

I liked this episode. The kid was cute. Seigi is mildly annoying.

The only thing that bothered me is: why would you give a kid that young a gemstone worth 10 million yen? That's crazy. Either they are disgustingly rich or that valuation isn't right...or perhaps that dad is an idiot that would spend 10 million yen on a gemstone for his son rather than explain to him something very basic as to why the cat is staying with his secretary for a while.
