Tbh I would probably agree this is the best first episode. I suppose something like Spy x Family had a great 9/10 first episode and then it’s maintained that 9/10. And something like Monster that was a perfect 10/10 series for me and was something that grew on me over time as I watched episode after episode. By the first episode I would probably only have rated Monster something like 8/10 as it takes a few episodes for a story like that to establish itself eventually becoming a 10/10.
However, To Your Eternity had a 10/10 perfect first episode, however for me it dropped to a solid 8/10 for most of the rest of the season, with the odd 9/10 moments. Very good series but the first episode was on another level especially to the rest of the season and it just couldn’t maintain that.

no way this I your best 1st ep. promised neverland is better, jjk, mob psycho... imo
but tbh tye first episode is really good but thats it the show itself was so overhyped everyone said they were crinying at the sad moments I didnt and I am not a emotionally dead person I just didnt feel sad enough to cry.

Definitely one of the best 1st episodes I've ever seen, certainly in the top 5 for me.

Sadly though it was just that and the arc with march that was good from the anime. Everything that came afterwards, especially the last arc, for me was just whatever.

I believe this is one of the best 1st episodes I've ever watched.

But, objectively speaking, although it did set the basic ways Fushi copied bodies, the greatness of the episode was the boy's loneliness and sorrowfulness and how the wolf act like a companion just by being there. It starts and ends there. It doesn't set the story.

In terms of introducing the plot + setting the stakes, AoT really has the best episode I can remember.

Anyways, the thing that matters the most is making you feel something, after all. I can't argue against how close Fumetsu no Anata e's 1st ep hit me. Dogs are just so relatable for many people.

AOT like everyone has said, in fact, sorting by popularity on mal is probably a decent indicator of having better first eps. Otherwise these series never would have gotten popular in the first place. Death Note, FMAB, Code Geass, SAO, NGNL, Steins;Gate - literally anything that took off, big part of that was thanks to their first eps.

Steins Gate's 1st ep is amazing, but you don't know that yet. It's my favourite anime all time, but I was really underwhelmed after watching it when I begun the show back in the days. Obviously, when I 2nd watched it, I recognize the brilliance there.

I could name plenty of shows with a great first episode, but this was the best and most memorable I’ve seen in a long time, and I can’t really think of another show off the top of my head that made me cry so much during the first episode lol

Got a few:
I Say AOT is my favourite 1st episode ever but the fact that To Your Eternity is able to generate such emotion in its first episode Is unmatched.
Violet Evergarden,Steins Gate,Re Zero and most recently Summertime Rendering have been fantastic examples for 1st episodes hooking the viewer.
