animation style follows the 2D live , 2.5D style .. not half bad. i like it.
the story about the lock down, reminds me very much of REC the film. as for animation .. it's kind of original, i'll give them that much.
the "mom" character in the first 2 episodes gave me hypertension with her cursed filler!
now the fact there exists 2 monsters, 1 bipedal and 1 with tentacles on the roof .. is interesting .. UNLESS...
since this show is officially revealed to be LOOPER genre .. meaning ....
"sigh" THIS SHOW WILL BE SADISM FETISH .. THE GIRL WILL KEEP DYING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.. since it's a LOOPER..
she'll get killed in so many way, until she LOOPs to the only one correct path to take.
LOOPer stories are THE CHEAPEST way to show off how many scenarios the studio thought of using to kill the main characters.
also trying to build a "young romance drama" story with the introduction of the guy .. that was needless.

let me collect the information .. 1st original start, Sai was a giant thing with a flower on its back.
1st checkpoint LOOP .. Sai now is a bipedal lovecraftian thing

deduction:
1- every loop has its own Sai and its own way of defeating it
2- there exists MULTIPLE Sai around and with more episodes sooner or later .. we'll eventually discover that all humans are eradicated, and the girl has been speaking with a mimic type Sai all this time.. i'm not sure really

conclusion for now:
the anime is trying TOO HARD to sound scary.. and the "mom character" with all her filler "i'll tell you, listen carefully, this is important...." okay .. "mom" let's keep the chain going!
i mean what other words have you not used it??
"this is important, you have to see this to believe it, this means life or death for you, i am about to speak, give me a moment, just listen, i'm about to reach the important point, i need your full attention, you can't miss this!, write it down! you need to be in full mental capacity, listen carefully ...."

hey mom! are you perhaps looking though all the ways for you to capture the attention of someone, online???
by this point 8 minutes out of 13 have already passed!
with 1 minute and half for the outro song .. that leaves 3 minutes for any progress to happen!
very very VERY slow progress, very very VERY annoying interaction..
this turned from "horror drama" into "patience test!"

outside the building is dangerous, inside the building is dangerous, either find a way to escape, or kill Sai ..
and with the fact it's a LOOPer and 13 minutes per episode with 2/3 of every episode is "mom" still searching for "1000 words to use as follow ups"
very easily .. this show will at least need .. in between 40 ~ 70 episodes to finish.
the show needed 3 episodes for any development to happen ..
then on average it means ..
if the show is made of 12 episodes 12/3 .. the girl will die 4 times in total
if it's 24 then 24/3 = the girl will die 8 times ..
if it's 40 episodes 40/3 = the girl will die 13 times
if it's 70 episodes 70/3 = the girl will die 23 times ..
every time she dies she'll LOOP and progress ..

this better not flop .. although in my eye it's already a joke.

This anime was very horrifying till now and I love it. Just knowing that Ryoka is captive in that building along with Shuuhei, without any chance of escaping unnoticed (so far), it gives you goosebumps.

Is it possible that Ryoka had dreams with another monster? From what her mother told, Sai doesn’t have tentacles.

Because (as far as we know) first Sai (with the tentacles) was a dream, and now she woke up, her mother called again, Shuuhei is still alive because she DREAMT he was killed, and the REAL sai is bi-pedal and doesn't have tentacles, as seen at the very end.

While I don't like such dream bs, there's quite a number of ways this can go. The other 2 projects from this studio have 6 each episode, we'll get at most 2 more monsters if that's the case here.

Conclusion till now : So you have to survive from that horrible thing 'X (sai)' It evaluates everytime.
Until you survive this will be going on and on.
Now let's see next week what happens.

Edge of Tomorrow time-loop alien? Didn't expect this. But, the alien/monster is also evolving or something?

If this was US, the thing would've been nuked by now :D
