An anime movie released in theaters that's marketed to feature new content for the series. You buy a ticket only to find out the "movie" is just a condensed and glorified recap of the previous season of the anime. The last 30 minutes might feature the first episode of the next season, but whatever. I once made the piss poor assumption that the entire sword village arc of Demon Slayer was being made into a movie for theaters. Instead it was just a needless recap of the entertainment district arc with the first episode of the sword village arc. I blew $20 on a pointless recap and felt stupid as hell. I definitely learned my lesson that movie night. I was happy to eventually see a legitimate anime series movie in theaters like Spy x Family Code: White.
Kaiju No. 8 is having a movie called "Mission Recon" coming out in theaters soon. Of course it's probably more like Kaiju No. 8 MISSION RECAP!
No, i don't go to cinemas at all in the first place, why would i pay for an expensive ticket for something i can wait for to watch for much cheaper later on, also anime in cinema lol.
Nope. Firstly I check what I watch - Secondly, Poland only recently started showing more and more anime movies in cinema's [Solo Levelling recap was recent I think?] and mostly only the really popular one's [Makoto Shinkai, Ghibli, Mamoru Hosoda, Demon Slayer, Chainsaw man will probably have a screening] - so most recap movie's just don't get aired in cinema's anyway.
You know, the last anime film I wanted and intended to see in theatres was the third Made in Abyss film, Made in Abyss 3: Dawn of the Deep Soul or something or other, and it was the only one of the three films out of the film trilogy which wasn't a recap-fest, but all new original content. I never bothered or had any interest in seeing the first two and still haven't as I don't watch those recap films for any series.
Well, unfortunately, never got to see that third film on the big screen either as all the movie theaters closed around that time back in 2020 due to the global coronavirus pandemic before it would have any screenings.
And I haven't been back to a movie theater since, in over five years now.
I do go to see anime films but I do also check to make sure it's not a recap plus extra episode. So far I've avoided making the mistake of recap films.
How much???
Here a cinema ticket costs like $4-5 so I don't worry this much about an accidental bad movie. On the other hand, I always do some research before buying a ticket, so that I don't end up in a situation like the one you just mentioned.
I Watched Attack on Titan: The Last Attack In The Theaters With My Mom I Think That The Final Chapters Was Better As a Movie Better Than a 2-Parter Episode Also Yuichiro Hayashi The Series Director Of Season 4 Originally Plan The Final Chapters To Be a Movie But The Had To Do Then 2-Parter Because Itโs Too Big And a Tight Deadline.
Didn't you care to check what that "movie" was about? I remember it was properly advertised as an early preview for upcoming season, and no promotional material ever called it a new "movie".
I wouldn't call it a mistake, but I saw Attack on Titan: The Last Attack in theaters a couple months ago. I was aware that it was just the last few episodes of the show edited into a movie, but I still had a great time rewatching the ending on a big screen with dozens of other people.
Some of you never watched Bakugan Battle Brawlers on TeleToon in 2008 and it shows.
No, I normally am pretty informed about everything I watch before I even entertain actually watching it. Besides, the only anime movies I've ever watched in a movie theater are the Demon Slayer one, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and the Haikyuu movie.

I did accidentally watched a recap episode of an anime, but never a movie. Whether it's on cinema or not, I always check if a movie is a recap or not since it's a common case in movies.
I don't go to the cinema, but I imported the second recap movie from Made in Abyss, since it was really good. It came with a negative of Nanachi, too.
If they released RAW anime in the theater where I live I might have gone, but they don't and official subtitles are awful. My home theater is alright, though, so it doesn't matter as much.
Recap movies are for when you want to rewatch an anime. Some of them aren't that good and some of them are great. But I'd say it's worth it to give them a try if you want to rewatch.
wasn't a full recap but i watched a demon slayer movie in theatres (big mistake). it had recap of 2 or so episodes and first episode of a new season. don't remember which movie though its been years. that was the last time i went to watch anime in theatres. the audience here is too immature and ruined the experience for me. shouting, hooting, appluading for dumb shit. couldn't concentrate and have a good time. it was barely 4 dollars though and i went out with a group of friends so its fine.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.
