Expecting the cliched "happily ever after"? Well this is far from it.
Things start off airy fairy but get to chapter 7 and BAM! it hits you on the real and darker side of the monarchical system.
In a women dominated society, meet your commoner boy who "coincidentally" is the splitting image of the princess. He is captured by slave traders but bought by the princess as her substitute. From then on, he learns about the princess' world (at first unwillingly) while the princess wants to learn about the outside world. THAT'S the airy fairy bit. After that, things hit you quickly and unexpectedly just when

At the first two chapters, I thought of Daughter of Evil- a vocaloid song. It is very good and I was suprise that it has a low ranking here in myanimelist. It probably isn't very popular but I urge you to read it.
The story wasn't that original but I still like it. The art was very good, not the best but it was likable and I'm sure you won't hate it. There were only a few characters at the first part( not sure about volume2). Sometimes I get confuse at albert and the princess because they look alike. I enjoyed this series very much. Although it wasn't one ... Sep 10, 2015
The manga series 'Shounen Oujo' left me a thirsty impression. At first, I thought this manga is just like other gender bender stories which two individuals are look alike, and later they will switch places, experience each other lives and realize how hard to live the life of other. But my prediction betrays me when the main character Albert reach the point of no return. It made me wonder how he will carry out the duties of Princess Alexia and how long he will be able to pretend as her. I also want to know how will Albert change the views of his country.
Shounen ... Nov 27, 2017
A really good manga. It doesn't have one leading outstanding aspect, but it's really solid on most aspects and I can't think of anything major I'd change about it.
I picked this up because I liked the setting and there were interesting elements in the synopsis (cross dressing plus pretend royalty), but I didn't expect that much. What I got though, really exceeded my expectations. This is a story about identity, responsibility, resolve, discrimination, politics, and more. Identity - usually for gender benders it's just about hiding their gender yet mostly being themselves, but shounen oujo is interesting because it also involves being someone else. It's not about ... As of this review, Shonen Oujo has been discontinued. The author has stated that they're trying to get it up again at another publisher, but that's looking unlikely. So, by all intents and purposes, I see this as finished with no end.
It's crazy to think how far I've fallen in love with this series. It's essentially a twist on the classic Prince and the Pauper tale but more death and political intrigue and instead of a Patriarchy the Kingdom are that of a Matriarchy. The characters are all great and have unique personalities that clash really well. The story is mostly about oppression and identity. Unlike other ... Apr 15, 2023

Hm... I find it a bit challenging to start writing a review of this work.. Even if I find it really good, impactful and lovely in many ways.. Is it ok to reccomend an unfinished work, that will probably never have a conclussion? 0~0 The magazine this manga was published on was descontinued in early 2018, and Shounen Oujo hasn't been updated since 2017. It hasn't been axed perse.. But I do imagine that re-starting it's serialization would be a challeging, and apparently in late 2018 the author did express interesting in restarting it!! But, well, it has been some time since then, hasn't it. ... |
