Im a fan of this remake but the only problem is how quickly it has to abbreviate so much plot. If you're a newbie to this franchise it will probably be impossible to enjoy this.
It's kinda funny that Toru Furuya ended up voicing trash characters in this franchise twice. In the original series he voiced Andrew Fork and now Flegel lol Kana Hanazawa as Mariendorf was a big surprise though.

Do people seem to like it in comparison to the original 110 episode OVA series? Response to it doesn't seem nearly as bad as to something like the 2016 Berserk remake, but still pretty middling.
I like both the original OVA series and the remake. I prefer the original OVA series because it greatly expanded on the story and character developments. The remake has beautiful animation, but it is definitely sticking to the main points of the story.
Another difference I noticed, at least based on only the 12 episodes of the remake being out, is the remake focuses way more on the Free Planets Alliance side. The original OVA had a nice 50/50 split in episodes/story for both the Free Planets Alliance and the Galactic Empire; it felt more balanced. So I'm hoping the new movies will give a bit more time to the Galactic Empire this time around to even it out.
I'm so excited!!! I loved the original OVA very much so I'm really looking forward to seeing more of the remake. I'm having a hard time recognizing some of the characters from the trailers though since the designs have changed so much (and I can't read Japanese obviously), lol. I really love Hildegard's design though!
