The Annecy Work in Progress event at the 2025's Annecy International Animation Film Festival announced an anime movie adaptation of Banana Yoshimoto's Hinagiku no Jinsei (Daisy's Life) novel on Monday, revealing the main staff. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2026.

Masaaki Yuasa (Inu-Ou, Devilman: Crybaby) is helming the movie at Miyu Productions and his new studio ame pippin. Sachiko Tanaka (Tokyo Sonata, Asako I & II) is penning the script, and the novel's illustrator Yoshitomo Nara is credited as the character designer. Asmik Ace is credited for production.

The novel was originally serialized in monthly magazine CUT from 1998 to 2000. Gentosha first published the novel in November 2000, later reprinting it in April 2006.

Synopsis
Daisy's loved ones always leave her behind. On a rainy day, six-year-old Daisy loses her mother, who is her only family, in a traffic accident. One night, when she is unable to sleep at her aunt's house, a girl appears at the window. (Source: Annecy Festival)

@RippleLover Yuasa is always going with the most horrid character designs for his snooze anime. good thing he left so Science saru can produce cute stuff like this instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnoZ43A_ThM

Interesting to see how, while Science SARU becomes more corporate since being bought by a big company, Yuasa keeps making the experimental stuff he had hoped to make over there.

Banana Yoshimoto's novels are quite interesting: I personally enjoyed Kitchen. Masaaki Yuasa adapting her works is something I didn't know I wanted. Now that it's here, however, to anyone who haven't read Banana Yoshimoto: trust me; Yuasa is the perfect director for her works. No other director fits her writing style this much.
