I would recommend this show if you are a fan of war drama/politics in general. If you like UC Gundam, you might like this. The war/politics between two worlds is surprisingly good, but don't watch this if you want exciting Mecha battles as this is the show's main flaw. Though the action does get pretty decent in the last arc.
One can easily make comparisons to Gundam First, but they are totally different in regards to focus and execution. The action in Dougram is interesting as each battle is a little different with a clear objective in mind. It can be
...
as simple as crossing a bridge or taking out an artillery battery. These scenarios keep things fresh. The problem is the execution. The battles feel rather wonky up until the last arc.
The show excels in drawing you into the conflict between two worlds. It feels like a real conflict with real people on both sides. The game of politics is surprising good and adds to conflict between worlds. The main characters aren't terrible, but do feel a little lacking in character development. The real stars of the show are the leaders of the conflict. They all have their own goals in mind and are either plagued with ideology, pride, ambition, ect which makes for a surprisingly good watch.
If you are more a fan of the war/politics side of UC Gundam than the action, then this is a must watch as this show definitely has more meat. Also, no newtype magic crap is present in this show. Some would consider this a plus.
Cheers.

Season 2 of Magi, in my opinion, falls short of the first season.
It takes the three characters through a mediocre arc and then decides to focus on each of the characters individually. Problem is, one of the characters becomes the main focus while the others get put on the back burner. By the end of the season, the back burner characters have developed without us seeing it happen with each of them gets about 3-4 episodes. This leaves much to be desired as far as character development is concerned.
As for the main focus, I felt like I was watching Harry Potter for
...
a good part of the season and was pretty disinterested, but the season does pick up near the end which has me excited for the next season. I also would like to mention that the new characters are very interesting once they get into the swing of things.
If you liked the first season at all, I suggest watching this season to prepare you for the third season. Things are about to get interesting. It's just too bad that the season starts off kinda slow, then focuses on someone (suddenly Harry Potter), and drops off the other characters until near the end of the season. At least, the season ends with you wanting more Magi. It did for more anyway. Cheers.

Shinsekai Yori was definitely not what I was expecting. For whatever reason, I thought I was getting into a slice of life/high school anime, but ended up with something quite unique and very dark.
It all starts off with the characters being a part of a school that helps students control their psychokinetic powers. As the story goes, questions about their society appear to surface along with its history. From the perspective of Saki, we join her as she begins to wonder about these questions herself.
As mentioned before, the story is pretty dark. It all appeared wonderful on the outside, but the
...
closer you get to the truth the more "unique" the world got. The execution of the story was handled really well. You never quite know what to expect next for their world was quite different from our own. A lot can happen in a millennium.
I found most of the characters were okay, but Saki and some of the other characters along the way really steal the show. Saki is a very likable protagonist because she is a good person at heart and cares deeply for her friends. She isn't some hero with super powers, but she tries her best.
The other characters Saki encounters are also very interesting and help provide more detail about the world they live in and how different it is to the world Saki thought she knew. Since we are interacting with these characters through Saki's eyes, we tend to not know what is going on in their heads for Saki has no idea either.
There are some parts that I did not like about this anime, but they aren't anything worth mentioning here and it would also reveal some spoilers.
Those looking for a great mystery that is both dark and complex should check this out. It gives you just enough information to keep you wanting to ask more questions while not withholding too much information. The mystery doesn't last all the way to the end, but once all has been revealed, things start to get quite messy in a good way. There also is a good amount of action and suspense that happens later in the series.
Those looking for a quick horror/suspense anime should look elsewhere. The story takes a long time to unravel and there happens to be a lot of dialog that might put some people off. The overall mystery takes a while to build up and the action sequences don't happen for a little while.
In the end, Shinsekai Yori was very enjoyable. It might be slow starting at first, but once things start to get swinging, it provided a suspenseful experience that I haven't quite felt from the anime I've seen so far. Though, there are some that come to mind, but I won't get into that.

This is my first time writing a review for anything. So, wish me luck.
I wasn't sure what to think of this anime upon starting it. Even though the summary made it out to be pretty serious, there are splashes of comedy in many of the early episodes that some may think are out of place in regards to the overall tone, but I found these to be quite charming.
I found that this anime painted a good image of the world they lived in. It basically is the dark ages of Europe and it incorporates a lot of things from that time in
...
history. Throughout the series, the world felt very alive. I really liked how the world would change based on the decisions made by certain characters. They would often explain what would be the expected result, but sometimes they didn't. It is at these times when the series becomes very interesting. Another influence on the world is the great war between humans and demons. The great war, even though bad, has shown great improvements on the economy of both sides.
The war is a sad truth that is difficult to change and the Hero and Demon Lord have a difficult task ahead of them. They wish to change the world so that it doesn't need the sacrifice of lives to function. The plans to change the world are very promising, but even a well laid plan won't go as expected. This is where the show truly shines.
If you are a fan of political intrigue/economics, you should feel right at home watching this. A lot of time is spent on the happenings of the world and how it changes. If you are looking for a good romance in a fantasy setting, you should look elsewhere. It felt a little forced and merely more of a distraction than anything else. You could almost consider it not a romance, but there is just enough of it to be defined as such.
Overall, I really enjoyed watching this. The world felt very real and the characters were enjoyable. The story was interesting and made you think a little bit. The romance was pretty weak, but it doesn't prevent you from enjoying it.
