!!!WARNING SPOILERS!!! to be honest with you, Evangelion is by far one of my favorite anime of all time. however, this doesn't make it perfect. the ending was very anti-climatic, but still had much meaning to it that makes this anime hold a special place in my heart.
STORY:
The story starts off pretty generic, "aliens known as angels have invaded the planet and a secret organization creates giant mechas known as Evas to fight against them", but as it turns out, as we dive a few episodes in we soon discover an ever deeper meaning. We learn about the " Second Impact" and the origins of
...
the Evas, which turns out that the Evangelions that Shinji, Rei, Asuka have been piloting are actually creations of life based of of the first angel Adam with the souls of 2 of their mothers. Plot twists arent new in anime, but this is really the first time we've seen so many to the point where the world itself looks like a big lie. but thats sort of why evangelion is such an interesting anime.
ART:
The character design isn't really that new, however, the landscapes and the designs of the Evas are. the mechas have a very original look compared there are also several character shots throughout the anime that look stellar. Specifically the ones with Rei.
SOUND:
This animes opening is undoubtedly one of the greatest composed ops of all time, every sound feels delicately place, from the bird sounds that are heard in every episode to the song played when Shinji and Asuka try to sync with one another.
CHARACTER:
Our stories main protaginist is 14yr old Shinji Ikari, he has a very self-deprecating and cowardly personality. Rei Ayanami, our next main character, has a very melacholic personality, and seems to have trouble connecting to her peers. And lastly there is Asuka Langley, one of the original "tsunderes" of anime, she has a very big personality and has a really huge temperature, she also appears to have seperation anxiety. All these characters show a good example of what it's like to be an adolescent under the pressure society.
ENJOYMENT:
The anime is really fast paced at times and has a lot of interesting plot twist, giving the enjoyment of not knowing what to expect next. Which one of the many reasons why this anime is so enjoyable. This is an anime that even non-mecha fans can still watch and enjoy.
OVERALL:
In the end, Neon Genesis Evangelion is definitely a must watch for almost every anime fan. The ending may have felt like shit, but at least you can predict what will happen next, (JUST DONT WATCH THE MOVIE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RUINED FOREVER)
